The Cubs would have to get more than prospects back for Z. This team is set-up to compete now and trading major parts doesn't seem to make much sense. You never know with new ownership. I think this team showed this year it's not set up to "compete". And is being set up to "compete" the goal? I think it should be set up to win the World Series. And this group isn't going to do it. I would get that list of Z's approved teams and start fielding offers. I disagree. I feel that this team is definitely set up to compete, at least for the short term. Despite what Matt Holiday has said, the experts feel strongly that he wont be back in St. Louis, and even if we get this same Cubs team with a few minor tweaks, we'll be back to being the favorites in the division, maybe the NL. I cant see the Brewers aquiring the pitching it would take to pull themsoeves up, and even if they do, there probably planning a rebuild. The Cardinals will ptobably be competitve, but I cant see them having another monste stretch like they had this year. I would strongly suggest against shedding any key players unless something very good is coming back in return. Besides, even if Jim Hendry does get another chance in 2010, you better believe he'll be on thin ice and wont want to do anything stupid. Phillies? This team will not be picked as best in the league.

Not to mention a potential disaster. Sure, it'd be nice to have that contract off the books, but knowing this FO they'll just go out and blow it on R. Soriano and Figgins. This team is already has two ?s in the rotation next year if they lose Harden. Better off keeping the pitching we have.

Only after we eat Bradley's contract and sign Figgins to a 5 year deal. :-& There had better be someone around to overrule stupid [expletive] like that.

No way Figgins comes even close to getting that much. He may not get that much, but there will be a lot of teams bidding for him. Figgins is going to cost too much in $ and Reyes will cost too much in terms of players. 3/$27 is too much. $14 million a year is absurd. He wouldn't have received that much in the '06 offseason.

As has been countlessy reiterated, Reyes Career line is dragged down by his rookie and sophomore seasons, when he was 20 years old.

No way Figgins comes even close to getting that much.

IMO the Angels will be top bidders, but I doubt he gets the crazy money people think he will. How many teams will really be looking to add that much payroll? You can already count out about 20. Fyi, the NFL is projected to have the most TV blackouts since the early '80s.

Good thing we didn't trade Heilman. Can't let talent like that slip through your fingers. But really, what was the point of keeping him, especially since all Hendry had to do was let him go? Absolutely no point in having him around.

I agree that he shouldn't be traded, but everything I've heard and read sounds like the Cubs want to get rid of him. Unfortunately, there's no way to "free up the payroll" because the only options the Cubs will have is to eat most of his contract or take a bad contract in return. I don't see why. A team like the Reds would be absolutely perfect for Bradley, and they certainly need offense and have room in the corners. Jocketty's moves have been downright dreadful since the Mulder trade, so I'm not assuming Hendry would have to contribute any salary. edit: I was unclear. No reason to take on Cordero considering how much the Reds need offense.

If Hendry has to eat salary, then Milton shouldn't be traded. He shouldn't be traded in any case, but if he absolutely must, at least free up the payroll to add someone with more value than Cordero. That move makes the team much, much worse.
