    You honestly think they wouldn't want Marshall or Hill (especially the latter) as part of a deal for Bedard? How exactly would you obtain him? not only would they likely require Hill and/or Marshall, why on earth would you have Lilly as your hypothetical #2? You do realize that Bedard performed better than Lilly, in the AL East, right?

    This would be taking two steps forward and one step back. Sure, replacing ARam with ARod would be an improvement, but not the kind of impact improvement that the team needs, especially not considering the likely salary differences. yes, but taking two steps forward and one step back is still taking a step forward...

    let's be honest... Syracuse is awful, Western Illinois is a decent I-AA team, but not that good, and Indiana is barely average

    I believe that the significance of it now being Sept. 1st is that no one can be called up (for the first time?) and placed on the playoff roster

    Carlos Quentin will not be pushed aside by the likes of Eric Byrnes... Byrnes is having a career year, and the D'Backs understand that Quentin has immensely more potential and if they're going to be willing to play Upton, no matter how talented the kid is, they're not going to give up on Quentin. And even if I am wrong about that, if he is moved, I can only see Quentin being moved in a trade for an impact veteran of some sort, in a win now sort of move... **edit** ok, so I have been out of the loop and didn't realize that the D'Backs had signed Byrnes to that new deal... I now think that they're foolish for doing so and could see Quentin being moved more now than i could before

    I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that A-Rod would not go to Boston. The fans there already hate him.

    if I was being watched at the NFL Draft or in connection with it at my house or wherever, I would be on my phone all the time with other people, trying ot make them guess when i'm picked

    Johnson will help the Lions...if he's not traded. He's as good as they come coming straight out of college. This could end up similar to when Eli Manning and Philip Rivers were swapped after the fact...if TB takes Gaines Adams look for them to continue trying to make a deal with Detroit.

    Roger Powell Jr. did the same thing before his senior year. No, he wasn't going to get drafted, but it got his name out there. I don't think Pruitt is really going to leave unless he plays out of his mind at a draft camp.

    Illinois just simply didn't have the playmakers to win this game. They were physically outmatched against VT whose athletes made us look real bad when they went to the press.

    Matt Millen, is that you? the difference is, the Bears don't have the glaring holes that the Lions had...and I think the Bears can fill their needs in the later rounds with solid players

    The Bears may not "need" a WR, but if Dwayne Jarrett is on the board at 31, they should definitely take him. He's a big, talented possession receiver and a playmaker...you can never have to many of those

    both 11 seeds to play so far today laid/are laying a total egg...this could be a bad sign for VCU and Winthrop

    Who was the one guy that was signed as a franchise player? The thing I never understood is why players get so pissed off at being franchised. The only people it hurts are those who are clearly the best in the league at their position. For a guy like, say, Asante Samuel, he'll be guaranteed almost $8M this year. Generally it's a good thing to be paid the average of the top 5 salaries at any given position. Carolina signed Sean Gilbert as a franchise player from the Redskins about 10 years back-it was called "the worst move in franchise history." Ouch... yeah, that was an awful move; Sean Gilbert was not the best at his position and Carolina was not a good team. They really shouldn't have been in the business of giving up two first round picks. Especially when those picks turned out to be top 5 picks - the first of which was traded for every single pick that New Orleans had in the '99 draft, plus their first and third rounders the next year. If I'm looking at this correctly, they used the Sean Gilbert trade to draft Champ Bailey, Lavar Arrington and Chris Samuels. Way to go Carolina. Not that that did Washington any good to draft those 3.

    Russell was absolutely amazing against the weaker opponents of LSU this year-the problem is, is that enough of a sample size? This is his first great year, and he still struggled a great deal in 2 of the bigger games of the season for LSU. If he had mutliple years of good performances, or if he had more great performances against great teams, then he would be better in my eyes. He had 5 big games this year-Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas, ND Auburn-his numbers look all right, but his team scored 3 points, so he couldn't have been amazing. Florida-he was terrible Tennesee-he continued to let Tennessee back in it in the second half, but then came back with the game-winning TD pass at the end. Arkansas-he played well in leading the way to an LSU victory over a good defense. ND-He played very well against a bad defense in the blowout win. Russell makes for a very interesting case-did he mature into a different QB this year? My big concern about him is his tendency to throw into coverage, which he's going to have to do a lot more in the NFL than in college. not to make excuses for him, but a lot of QBs looked terrible against Florida...also, while I'm by no means comparing the two...I don't think anyone would have considered Jerry Rice fast by today's standards either.

    If Carr could be had for Griese and a mid to late round pick, I'd do it in a heratbeat...The guy has some talent, and it would be interesting to see if he could push Rex for the job. Even if he didn't win the job from him, that would hopefully mean that Rex has improved and they would now have a much more capable backup should he regress.

    Not sure who it was that made a point about Benson fumbling his first carry, but the fact of the matter is, Bob Sanders laid a heck of a hit on him (you could hear the hit on the live broadcast) and his helmet was squarely on the ball. Very few, if any, running backs would have held on to the ball in that situation.

    Wow on Landry. I'm pretty sure I've never seen him below 10-12. That would be quite the steal for the Giants. I like that he has the Titans taking Meachem. If Ginn and Calvin are gone (quite obviously Calvin will be), I think Meachem's my favorite. Not real high on Jarrett. Jarrett is every bit as good as advertised. He's big, strong, and has great hands. He may not be as fast as Meachem, but he's proven that he can do it on the big stage (Notre Dame, Michigan)

    2002 may be above and beyond other years in that so many of its "top prospects" fizzled out, but it's no secret that many players who are "can't miss" do in fact, miss. Todd Van Poppel, Brien Taylor (injury contributed i know), Jason Isringhausen (yes he has enjoyed some success as a closer, but everyone had him penciled in as a Mets ace), and Paul Wilson are a few that come to mind
