  1. Enough dude. Stop trolling. Making one joke is OK. Responding to every post made with a pointless post that adds nothing to the thread and solely posted to further annoy other posters is against the rules. For someone with so few posts you may want to watch it. His post count won't be going any higher.
  2. Yes, they've already announced that.
  3. :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig: :pig:
  4. Talk about going out on a limb. :D
  5. I'm in a similar situation with the Astros and Castro. Towles is starting catcher for now with Castro starting in the minors, but that could change before the year is over.
  6. I have two players definitely starting the season on the DL (Volquez and Lidge) and one up in the air (Ross). Volquez and Lidge aren't messing up my plans because I knew from the very beginning that they'd start on the DL, but my final moves to get my roster legal depend on Ross' situation. Where I'm really getting screwed is in my two Yahoo leagues. In each league I have one closer definitely starting on the DL (Wood and Street), but they haven's been placed on the DL yet. Because of that I've lost opportunities to replace them before potential replacements are picked up by other owners because the roster spots aren't open yet.
  7. I'm definitely hoping for that, because I also have him on one of my Yahoo teams.
  8. I'm sure you mean 5 guys per 9 innings. Walking 5 guys per inning would make even Marmol look like he has good control in comparison.
  9. Kind of big deal, but all it did was clinch a wild card. Had they not been in the playoffs in 84 and 89 that could be there, and maybe it's bigger than the Rick Monday thing, but all in all it's not nearly as big as most of that list plus the series win over Atlanta. I'd rank it higher than I would for most other years largely because of everything that happened that year (the home run race, Wood's 20-strikeout game and ROY award, the deaths of Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse). It was a special year, and I consider making the playoffs that year (even as a wild card) to be more meaningful than it would in other years.
  10. When Neifi truly did save the Cubs. :D And yes, I would put that above Maddux's 300th win (but behind the 2003 NLDS win over the Braves).
  11. Maddux win does not matter. Game 5 win over Atlanta, first playoff series win in franchise history, should be in its place I know 1908 was a long time ago. But it did happen. They didn't have playoffs then, just the World Series. It was a playoff series. This seems like debating semantics. It was a postseason series win, but the term "playoffs" wasn't used prior to the beginning of divisional play in 1969. And I do agree about Maddux, since most of his wins were as a Brave. Nice for him to get the win as a Cub, yes. One of the nine best moments in Cubs history, no.
  12. From that show, the Prime 9 top moments in Cubs' history (you'll need to scroll down a bit to get that specific video). 9. Rick Monday rescues American flag. 8. Milt Pappas' no-hitter and almost perfect game. 7. Kerry Wood's 20-strikeout game (should have been higher IMO). 6. Ryne Sandberg's two game-tying HRs off Bruce Sutter. 5. Greg Maddux's 300th career win. 4. Sammy Sosa's 62nd HR in 1998. 3. Gabby Hartnett's "Homer in the Gloamin.'. 2. Ernie Banks' 500th HR. 1. Division clinching win in 1984.
  13. I'm assuming that's OK; I did that with Lidge before he was officially placed on the DL. In the past the ruling was that you could do so with the understanding that you'd need to drop the player if for some reason he didn't actually go on the major league DL to start the season. I don't think that's a risk you'd be taking with Webb or Gordon.
  14. I think Packers-Vikings increased as a rivalry this past year because of Brett Favre, but on the whole Bears-Packers is the biggest rivalry in the NFC North and it isn't even close.
  15. That's what I thought they would do also but they're concerned with logistics. The selection show will still be Sunday night so that would leave 40 hours between the announcement of your opponent/location and your game for those playing on Tuesday. I don't know that I can recall a situation like this where everyone in the media and fans almost universally thought it was a terrible idea but basically conceded that it's inevitable. If you can't leave it, just go to 68 and have 4 play-in games for the 12 seeds. I agree with this, even though deciding to give them the 12-seed is kinda arbitrary, and is not really fair to the 5-seeds. But I do like the idea that the last 8 at-large bids play for the last 4 spots. Make the teams that didn't earn their spot into the tourney play for the right to be in it. I'm guessing he meant to say 16 seeds. It makes no sense to have play-in games for anything other than the lowest seeds.
  16. This almost sounds like an April Fool's joke.
  17. I decided to move this to the FAQ forum where it will stay on the front page, because this comes up every year and it will be easier to find that way.
  18. Former Texas Tech coach James Dickey is the new coach for Houston. Dickey was fired by Tech in 2001 and replaced by Robert Montgomery Knight.
  19. Let's see if I can suck at this as bad as I did last year. Group A: Pujols Group B: Dunn, Teixeira Group C: Mauer, Justin Upton, Votto Group D: Hamilton, Adam Jones, Markakis, Aramis Ramirez, Sizemore Wild card: PM'd
  20. I was thinking of a trickle-down effect, not the NCAA shutting them down. I had forgotten that the NCAA bought out the NIT to settle the lawsuit a few years ago.
  21. They're available for mail order now by calling 800-248-9467. $15.00 + $7.95 shipping (no tax for mail order, although there might be in Illinois). I ordered mine Tuesday and already received it today.
  22. Or as someone was speculating at the time maybe Lou was using "Iowa" in a generic sense meaning the minor leagues without having a specific minor league team in mind. In any event, I like this for selfish reasons since Tennessee will be playing at Carolina (less than an hour from my home).
  23. I think it's more likely the No Interest Tournament stays and the CBI and CIT are done.
  24. Any university President that would vote in favor of a plan that would require missing an entire week of class on top of what they already miss during the regular season needs to be fired on the spot without receiving a penny of severence pay. That option shouldn't even be on the table for discussion.
  25. I was just about to post this myself. And I know what the spoiler is without even clicking on it. EDIT: Here's the original BCB article.
