  1. More teams playing in primetime = more fans watching = more ratings. $$$ It isn't the primetime slot that gets the extra game, though. There are two games each in the mid-afternoon and primetime slots, but three in the late afternoon slot. And Sunday primetime isn't even an issue, since the games end (or are at least scheduled to) before primetime and CBS televises the regular primetime lineup beginning with 60 minutes. CBS is going to show as few games at 10 AM Pacific as they can. That's why there's only 3 games in the first set on Thursday and Friday. Screw the left coasters. :P

  3. Registration for the Second Chance Pick'em contest is now open. There's a $5,000 prize for the top bracket nationwide. I've sent an invitation through Yahoo to everybody who registered for the original contest. Others can join too; it isn't necessary to participate in one contest in order to participate in the other. Group ID 8681; password gocubs.
  4. I've had a pet peeve with CBS' weekend telecasts for years. I hate that they only have one game during the early slot on both Saturday and Sunday. There's no other game to switch to during halftime, and if the one game gets out of hand, too bad. They could definitely do a better job of evening things out. Saturday would be easy; two games during each of the four time slots. Sunday could be three games during two slots and two games during one slot.
  5. I remember both Plank and Suhey (proof that I'm old). If I remember it was Plank that the 46 defense was named after (because he wore uniform #46).
  6. I think the first night game at Wrigley Field could be a comparison to the atmosphere likely at that game.
  7. Agreed, although autodraft can cause problems if somebody has two picks close to each other due to the snaking order (as happened when somebody got Marquis autodrafted when he didn't want him). I've frequently used autodraft for even-round picks since it would likely be quite some time before I'm up again.
  8. For some reason I was mixed up and thinking the draft was in the 7th round rather than 9th.
  9. It's already official that nobody from our group will win $1 million. ISUCubsFan was the only undefeated participant through the first 7 games, but he picked UTEP over Butler.
  10. This draft has slowed to less than a crawl. At this rate it will never be completed before Opening Day. I REALLY think we need to go back to the single-evening format next year. This is two years in a row we've had problems and a never-ending draft.
  11. I think you've gotten your wish.
  12. And even if he misses all year due to the surgery, at the current rate he'll still be playing again while our current major league draft is still in progress. :D
  13. Confirmed.
  14. Pitcher Rafael Dolis has been optioned to Tennessee.
  15. You might want to focus more of your time on realizing that West Tennessee hasn't been a Cubs' farm team for a few years now. :D
  16. Frequently they bring players in from minor league camp for split squad games anyway, so they could still bring him in for that purpose.
  17. She has picked, and so has Rodelo. You're up now with two picks.
  18. Good one. Here's another one from the same source.
  19. I missed this if it was posted elsewhere, but the Cubs have made their first roster cuts. P Mitch Atkins has been optioned to Iowa, P David Patton has been optioned to Tennessee, and IFs Josh Vitters and Matt Camp, Cs Steve Clevenger and Blake Lalli, OF Brett Jackson, and Ps Jeff Kennard and Vince Perkins have been assigned to minor league camp.
  20. I'm guessing a few teams rejected invites, cause there are better teams that didn't make the NIT than that. There's no representation from the power conferences in either of these tournaments. Perhaps they just assume that teams from those conferences wouldn't be interested in a third-rate or fourth-rate tournament. No love for Oregon State? Oops; I should have said little representation (rather than none).
  21. Hmmm, mine always autopopulates every year. Same with mine. I see it just by hovering my mouse over the Fantasy link near the top of the Roadkill home page. I participate every year; that's the one thing I've actually won since joining Roadkill.

  23. Here are the first round games for the IMPORTANT tournaments: CBI: Indiana State @ St. Louis Green Bay @ Akron Virginia Commonwealth @ George Washington Charleston @ Eastern Kentucky Boston University @ Oregon State Colorado State @ Morehead State IUPUI @ Hofstra Duquesne @ Princeton College Insider: South Dakota @ Creighton Fairfield @ George Mason Western Carolina @ Marshall Pacific @ Loyola Marymount Middle Tennessee State @ Missouri State Harvard @ Appalachian State Portland @ Northern Colorado Southern Mississippi @ Louisiana Tech
  24. With a new thread started for 2010 I'm locking and un-stickying this thread to avoid confusion.
  25. Transferred from the 2009 thread: Unfotrunately I'm not. That was a budget cut last year that didn't get back in this year and I'm not able to pay it out of pocket either. So I'm stuck watching on TV like the rest of you guys!
