  1. Tonight was a blow to their chances. They now can only score two more runs total this week to get in under 15. But if anybody's up to that challenge, it's the Cubs.
  2. I just saw the same article and was going to start a thread about it when I noticed one was already started. That may explain his recent statements about him not being concerned about his future: In his own mind his future did not include continuing as Cubs manager. If he himself doesn't want to return, and it's woefully obvious that a change is needed, there simply is no reason not to make a change at the All-Star break (OK, there would be ONE reason, and that would be if the change were to be made sooner :D ).
  3. I'm gonna guess that everybody plays a lot nicer in the sandbox when the Cubs aren't 20+ games below .500?? :? I think that would be a safe bet. :D
  4. Agreed. Keeping Dusty just because Hendry and MacPhail should also go would be a case of two wrongs not making a right. I want all three gone, but some of that is better than none.
  5. As long as they keep getting one run in two games they'll do it.
  6. I hope you weren't being literal here :P Close to literal, but not quite. If we could arrange a multi-team trade where we'd get Pujols, Arod, Delmon Young, and Felix Hernandez I'd probably trade him and start making plans for next year's World Series. :D
  7. You should have known better. [-X
  8. I knew he had been hanging around in the minors for years, but I didn't realize he was back in the majors. This is now the second time in his career that he's made it back to the majors after three years.
  9. I'm biased as a Bear fan, but I'd put Payton first simply because he accomplished most of it on his own, without the benefit of a competitive team to support him. It would have been interesting to see how good Gale Sayers could have been if he had remained healthy. Too bad he didn't come around 20 years later; with modern surgical advances, his knee injuries would have probably been routine. (Same thing with Randy Hundley on the Cubs.)
  10. Ronnie sent me a PM asking for the thread to be deleted. I don't want to do it because the topic is timely, but to keep the thread going the discussion must get back on topic without any further bickering. If there's any more discussion about the title of the thread, as opposed to the topic, it will be deleted or at least locked.
  11. I'd rather see him on another MAJOR league team, hitting against the Cubs. :D
  12.
  13. But that was last year that the Cubs' emphasis was on character. This year it's speed and catching the ball.
  14. No reason to make a federal case out of a possibly misleading thread title. It happens. As a moderator, when I see a title that I think is misleading I simply edit the title; no big deal. The topic of the thread is a legitimate topic for discussion, so I see no need to delete it.
  15. Aramis' defense was quite good in 2004 as well, so maybe last year was the fluke.
  16. Here are his statistics at Nashville this year. I don't know how good his future is projected as (he fell out of Baseball America's top 30 prospects rankings for the Brewers this year).
  17. In other words he's AFLAC, not Blue Cross. :D
  18. Mike Sirotka. He had some good years with the White Sox, then was traded to Toronto. He immediately came up with shoulder problems, and Toronto asked for compensation or to void the trade (I don't remember which), claiming that he was damaged goods at the time of the trade. I think they lost that grievance. He signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, and I believe may have pitched some at Iowa, but he never pitched for the Cubs at the major league level. Unlike Miller, I think he was signed to a minor league contract.
  19. That is what I meant. I meant they'd fit in perfectly with the Cubs as they are, not as they should be.
  20. He was arrested at Miller Park shortly after the end of the Reds-Brewers game. He pitched to one batter in the game, striking out Prince Fielder. Apparently the police don't like it when an opponent strikes out their Prince. :D
  21. In other words, ideal Cubs. :D
  22. Please direct replies to existing thread, which mentions Hendry's appearance. Premium Non-Premium
  23. If the Cubs could get Freel for just Ohman, they need to do it yesterday. I think it would cost a little more than that.
