  1. Thanks for participating. Participation from the minor league broadcasters really adds a lot to this site. Felix Pie has been struggling somewhat this year. Do you think that's because of his limited experience above Class A prior to this year, or are they working with him on making adjustments at the plate which he may not be fully comfortable with yet? Also, why do you think Rich Hill is so dominant in the minors but struggled in his previous major league callups? Do you see him becoming a good major league pitcher?
  2. Actually, Gary Woods is a free agent. He's not under contract with anybody.
  3. BOO, Rusch actually had a very good game. The last thing I wanted was for him to pitch well and give Dusty (or whoever the manager is after the All-Star break) an excuse to put him back in the rotation. Now if this was a showcase for a trade, then I'll retract my boo. :D
  4. It may be just to give him a few extra days rest, with the break coming up after today's game. He may start the first game after the break on Thursday (my speculation, not anything I've actually seen).
  5. His season ERA is misleading because it is not indicative of how he's pitched most of this season. It's inflated by one bad outing, despite most of his outings being good.
  6. With Rusch starting instead of Prior, I'm setting it at five.
  7. The Futures Game is on this afternoon as well.
  8. I really think Dusty's as good as gone. The only question is whether the hammer drops at the All-Star break or the end of the season.
  9. That doesn't call for a reduced payroll, though. That calls for a new management team that will make the right decisions with the current payroll level.
  10. You're contradicting yourself. If he's fired, he won't be playing anybody (veterans or kids).
  11. Premium Non-Premium
  12. Silver lining: The Cubs are guaranteed to lose today, so there won't be a temptation to think Dusty has turned things around with a three game winning streak. It would be a fitting last game for Dusty as manager of the Cubs.
  13. The Daily is pumping for a LA team to Z! Yellow journalism at its finest. Of course if the Dodgers or Angels want to give the Cubs their top 5 prospects Hendry ought to think about it. If those 5 are overall top 50 guys that is. If the Angels were to offer Weaver, Wood, and Kendrick, I'd help Z pack. Short of something like that, I'll be first in line to form the lynch mob going after Hendry.
  14. Maybe it's time to make Guzman a closer candidate.Maybe it's time for you to remember that Guzman has missed most of the last couple of years due to injury and has recently gathered dust on the Cubs' bench. Patience. I wasn't insulting him, I think we need a closer and with his stuff he could be terrific. Personally I'd rather see him make it as a starter (I just think it's easier to find a closer), but I do agree about needing a closer (whether it's him or somebody else). I think Dempster's much better than he's shown the past month or so, but I also think he's valuable trade bait. My personal preference would be for Wood to return next year as a closer under a one-year contract with low base pay plus incentives, with a team option beyond that. I don't know if that will happen, though.
  15. Exactly how is he a bum? Being injured doesn't make one a bum.
  16. Maybe it's time to make Guzman a closer candidate.Maybe it's time for you to remember that Guzman has missed most of the last couple of years due to injury and has recently gathered dust on the Cubs' bench. Patience.
  17. At least they didn't send Reyes back down so they could keep both. That's the type of move the Cubs would have made.
  18. Thanks for answering our questions. Was it a disappointment starting the season in Daytona again after playing there last year? Did the Cubs give you a reason why they sent you back there? And what have you found to be the toughest challenge once you were promoted to West Tenn?
  19. You're hitting over .300 this year in a pitchers' league, while your previous career high was .284 last year at Daytona. Your average has actually increased with each higher level you've been promoted to. What do you attribute that success to?
  20. Thanks for taking our questions. What is the biggest difference you've noticed between high-A and AA ball? Also, which did you find as the biggest adjustment: Going from Peoria to Daytona, or Daytona to West Tenn?
  21. We signed Babe Ruth! The future suddenly looks brighter.
  22. One way to keep from overusing youngsters, but still giving them a chance to get an extended major league trial, might be to piggyback them, like sometimes happens in the minors. For example, they could piggyback Marshall and Guzman (maybe give them each four innings each outing) for one rotation spot and piggyback Hill and Marmol for another spot. You'd have a rotation of Zambrano, Prior, Maddux, Marshall/Guzman, and Hill/Marmol.
  23. Considering he's now had three elbow surgeries (TJS several years ago and operations both last year and this year) I'd be surprised.
