  1. Hill and Soto were basically the highlights for the PCL tonight (sad that there are so few hits that a walk is an offensive highlight). The rest of the team looked putrid, losing 6-0.
  2. He's in love with Adam Dunn, too? No, Kent Mercker.
  3. Marshall's ERA is nearly 5 (and was over 5 for awhile). Marmol's is over 4, and at one time was near or over 5. Young pitchers are inconsistent. They have excellent games, and they have stinkers (that's true for veterans as well, just to a lesser extent). Guzman has definitely had some stinkers, but he's shown promise too. The objective should be to let them get their stinkers in this year and be ready to contribute more consistently next year.
  4. Agreed, but only with a new manager. With Dusty the question would be who's still able to pitch next year because he wasn't abused this year.
  5. I'd be happy, however, if he made managerial decisions based on that. :D
  6. I refuse to give up on an entire half of the season. I would love to see Dusty and Hendry gone, but I would love it even more if the Cubs had a miraculous turn around and by some miracle got back into contention. If I thought there was any chance of that happening I'd be all for it. But it's not going to happen with the current mismanagement.
  7. I think most of us think Hendry should be fired as well. Unfortunately, he's already been given an extension beyond this year. Baker hasn't. So, although firing just Baker is only doing half the job, it's better than nothing.
  8. I've avoided it until now, but now I've joined those hoping to see the Cubs lose. Dusty has to go, period; everybody can see that except for the Cubs' mismanagement. If another long stretch of losing is what it will take, here's hoping for silent bats.
  9. I doubt it. With an off-day tomorrow, the Cubs could set up their rotation in any order they want to, so next Tuesday is the earliest date they'd need the fifth starter. Furthermore, there wouldn't be a need to bring up a starter unless both Prior and Zambrano are unable to make their next start.
  10. But that logic is based on the assumption that people will watch the Fox game if they can't watch the game they want to. I don't know how true that is for most people, but it isn't for me. I'll actually boycott the Fox game if it's preventing me from watching a game I'd rather see.
  11. I am dead set against trading Ramirez unless a stud is received in return. Third base has been a revolving door ever since Santo was traded (except for a few years with Bill Madlock). That problem has finally been solved, and could be for years to come. It's true he's having a down year offensively, but he's also having a very good year with the glove. I feel confident he'll rebound and have a good second half. I'd like to see how he responds to a new manager before giving up; maybe he'll put forth more effort if the manager actually holds him accountable for it. The only situation where I'd actively seek to trade him is if he's told the Cubs he's going to exercise his out clause and play elsewhere next year.
  12. It's on ESPN2. ESPN is televising the WNBA All-Star Game.
  13. I'd be all for it, especially if a new president would be willing to eat Hendry's extension and clean house.
  14. No, but if not for the Cubs' last week collapse in 2004 we'd be talking about that year. It works both ways.
  15. The Saturday blackout is inexcusable. I pay for Extra Innings. I feel that should give me the right to watch the games I want, not the ones Fox chooses to give me. I couldn't watch the 2003 division clincher because of the stupid Saturday blackout.
  16. Correct. The article said that the national blackout for Saturday games will remain. That's indefensible as far as I'm concerned. I pay for Extra Innings, which should give me the right to watch the games I want to, not the games Fox chooses for me to see. I missed the 2003 division clincher because of the stupid national blackout (the Cubs game was one of the Fox games, but not where I live).
  17. Yeah, but could he then make it around the bases without falling down? :D
  18. Activities Zambrano needs to be prohibited from: 1. Spending too much time on the Internet. 2. Giving on-field interviews during pre-game practice. The tragedy about this is that many of us have just been waiting for Zambrano to get injured, and when it finally happens we can't even reasonably blame Dusty for it. :x
  19. Really...where is Simon? He's in Milwaukee, hitting on the racing sausages. Actually, he's playing for Tijuana in the Mexican League (I checked minorleaguebaseball.com to see if he was playing for anybody). He last played in the majors in 2004.
  20. It's not ideal, but your argument could just as much apply to other sports. The team with home field advantage throughout the playoffs in one of the NFL conferences, for example, could have won it because of being in a weak division. Although not perfect, I think it is more justifiable to determine home field advantage based on best record rather than deciding whether the Mets or Tigers, for example, get home field advantage based on what players from other teams do in the All-Star game.
  21. That sounds right now that you mention it. I remember him being killed while in a car; I was off on exactly how he was killed. I was living in Indiana at the time; the killing was early during my freshman year in college.
  22. That's why the Cubs have a lower payroll this year, to free up more meal money.
  23. July 10 has come and gone, and you're still here. :D
  24. You got it backwards; Ankiel suffered from Steve Blass Disease. The way you put it is basically the same thing as saying Tommy John underwent Kerry Wood Surgery. :D
  25. I remember the Bostock sithation well. Tragically, he was killed in an automobile accident near the end of that very same season, after he put it together and raised his average to .296 (second lowest of his four year career). He's not comparable to Wood's situation, however. Wood's missed time is due to injury. Bostock was healthy but simply not producing. Completely different situations. You obviously have a deep hatred of Wood that makes you think he's a bum, which he is not.
