  1. As long as it's definite (as opposed to merely probable) that he's out for the rest of the year they definitely could.
  2. If Guzman is starting today, I wonder who will start for the Cubs tomorrow. It can't be Rusch, since he pitched in relief Monday night.
  3. In other news about Devil Rays' minor leaguers, it was mentioned on my local news last night that Josh Hamilton's latest comeback has been derailed. He'd been playing in the minors but is now out with a knee injury (no mention of how serious). Talk about a snakebit organization.
  4. what happened to that guy anyway? I've been wondering the same thing. He pitched in two games for Daytona early in the year, then was assigned to extended Spring Training. I haven't read anything about him since then.
  5. After two days I lead by a whopping 0.05 points. I got negative points from Burnett, but Bush did quite nicely for me in his first start after I traded for him. If I do wind up winning this week, it will be the second week in a row I beat a team with exactly the opposite record.
  6. Cubs.com is now confirming that Mateo is up.
  7. Maybe in some parallel universe where Rusch actually IS DFA'd. :D
  8. That rules out Ryu as a possible starter for the Cubs on Thursday. I think that's another sign Guzman will be up (unless the Cubs change their mind and hold Mateo back for the start rather than using him out of the pen).
  9. The 40-man roster as shown on cubs.com is currently at 39 (with it being updated to remove Maddux and Walker and add Izturis). Mateo is not shown on the 40-man roster. That doesn't necessarily mean you're wrong, though; I think it's been known to be inaccurate at times in the past. EDIT: The wording of the transaction on cubs.com suggests that he was not previously on the 40-man. It says that the Cubs purchased his contract from West Tenn. If a player is already on the 40-man, I believe the Cubs would have already owned his contract and not had to purchase it; therefore he would have been recalled.
  10. The first step is to admit that you have a problem. :D
  11. Someone else (Guzman?) will have to be called up to start Thursday since Rusch pitched in relief tonight. Mateo may be up just for a couple of days as insurance.
  12. An injury is; I'm not sure about a trade.
  13. That's right; I'd forgotten about that (him being glued to the bench made it easy to forget). I remembered him being sent down when Prior was activated.
  14. One positive about tonight's game: Rusch is now pitching in relief, so he's out of the equation as far as starting Thursday is concerned. Mr. Guzman, your table is ready.
  15. How bad is it?
  16. Technically Ramirez IS under contract for the next two years. He can void it, but unless/until that happens he is under contract, so talking about him being back would not be tampering.
  17. Neither Theriot nor Aardsma can come back yet; neither has been down for the required 10 days. Rusch is NOT an option regardless of the drivel coming out of Hendry's mouth. The only move that makes sense to me is to bring up Guzman to start Thursday.
  18. You forgot the most important part: The pitcher has to be recovering from shoulder or elbow surgery.
  19. Rusch can't take Maddux's spot. If they're going to make such a crappy deal, at least they MUST give Guzman a shot, not Rusch. I HATE Hendry.
  20. There HAS to be more. Even Hendry can't be stupid enough to give up Maddux AND a bunch of cash for nothing more. If that's all there is to the trade, MacPhail MUST fire Hendry TODAY.
  21. I wasn't clear enough, but I meant a top setup man (such as Hawkins his last year in Minnesota, or Rivera with the Yankees before he became a closer). I do agree with you about the position players; I didn't mean an average or below average player who started for one year only because the team didn't have anyone better. I don't think a player needs to be an All-Star to be considered an impact player, but does need to be a solid starter for several years. Perhaps a super-utility player (such as Tony Phillips or Mariano Duncan several years ago) could be considered an impact player as well.
  22. With five weeks remaining in the season, I have already equaled my win total for all of last year. I have a realistic chance of escaping the cellar.
  23. I started a group on Yahoo intended mainly for NSBB members, but I also plan to mention it to my fantasy league and others are welcome to invite friends too. The group ID is 6141, and the password is NSBB. The league is based on straight picks rather than point spreads, and I set the deadline for five minutes before each game (rather than the first game of the week). That way, if you forget about an early game, such as a Thursday, you're out that game but can still pick the rest of the games that week (I remember that was a problem sometimes last year).
