  1. Fire your manager and hire Dusty. That may be the only way the Cubs will get a new manager. :D
  2. He was on the DL for over a month (late April through late May) with a strained left hamstring.
  3. It would be interesting if eventually three teams each had one of the Papelbons pitching and one of the Molinas catching. :D
  4. I remember that. Under baseball rules, a team has the right to refuse to move to another division even if all other teams are in favor of it.
  5. The Cubs can't trade Cash. He started the season with West Tenn, but was released in May.
  6. I still watch it every year, but I don't really look forward to it as I once did.
  7. Overall: 10-4, 3.21 ERAVs. Cubs: 3-0, 0.00 ERA Vs. everybody else: 7-4, 4.02 ERA
  8. Not if you think you can win this year. Schmidt is proven. McCarthy is a top prospect, but top prospects have been known to fail. And even if he does develop as expected, there's no reasonable assurance that he'd do as much as Schmidt would to help them win this year.
  9. They're fairly close age-wise. Patterson turned 23 in April; Moore will turn 23 in November.
  10. The Cubs, no doubt. They make a habit of making opposing pitchers look like All-Stars.
  11. You mean Valentin. Valentine is a former Mets manager.
  12. You might want to post your questions in the Ron Potesta Q & A thread. Ron sees him more than any of us do, so he'd probably be able to answer your questions better than most of us.
  13. None of those stats you presented for comparison have a darn thing to do with what he can do defensively. They say he probably won't be the hitter Sandberg was, and I doubt anyone would argue otherwise, but they do absolutely nothing to support your saying that he probably couldn't shift to second.
  14. Since Hendry is too blind to see that a managerial change must be made, it's MacPhail's job to step in. If Hendry doesn't like MacPhail invading his territory, he can resign and the Cubs will be out from under the stupid extension they gave Hendry.
  15. And to make matters worse, Rusch has an excellent start and probably regains his spot in the rotation. :x
  16. Rusch's start yesterday reminded me of Estes' start in a critical game near the end of 2003. Many of us (myself included, IIRC) were grumbling that the Cubs were in effect forfeiting a must-win, but Estes pitched his best game of the year and the Cubs won. The main difference between that game and Rusch's start yesterday is that the Estes game actually meant something.
  17. THE DON! Hopefully he can keep up his 0.00 ERA for Daytona.
  18. Even if the Cubs finally face reality and give up on the season, Patterson shouldn't be called up yet. He's having a good season in AA, but this is only his second pro season. They ruined his brother's development by calling him up before he was ready; hopefully they won't do the same thing with Eric. I wouldn't mind a September callup, but I doubt that would happen since they'd need to add him to the 40-man roster and start the option clock to do so.
  19. I remember something about him being pretty sick last winter, and that being why he hadn't been throwing. ANYONE rememberwhat that was about? I remember he had some type of virus that sapped his strength for awhile. I don't remember whether he actually had to be hospitalized or not.
  20. All-Star break seems like a good time to update the standings again. If everybody will post their overall ranking within the next couple of days, I'll put them together in the form of standings for us. My team is now down to #1107. :( The "top" 10 major league players (pitchers and hitters ranked together): 1. Rodrigo Lopez 2. Josh Towers 3. Clint Barmes 4. Carlos Silva 5. RonDL White 6. Seth McClung 7. Brian Mohler, Joe Mays (tie) 9. GlenDone Rusch 10. Angel Berroa I don't know if these rankings are updated through Sunday's games. If not, Rusch's failure to suck may cause him to fall out of the top 10.
  21. So does LSD, heroine, cocaine, etc.
  22. If the Cubs were in contention, I think that would be a legitimate issue. Since they're not, however, I feel that they can't afford NOT to have them both in the lineup. They need to get as much playing time as possible this year so they can improve enough to be solid contributors next year, when they'd BETTER be contenders.
  23. I didn't realize that; since I'm in North Carolina, I don't pay that much attention to the MWL except for Peoria. But that's much like Tennessee in the Southern League.
  24. :?: Beloit at Peoria, 7:00 pm. That makes much more sense. Beloit is IN Wisconsin, not AT Wisconsin. :D
