  1. Sure he does. A walk is a leisurely stroll, sometimes outdoors, sometimes indoors (such as at a mall). A longer walk is called a hike. :D
  2. Not aware of any specific rule, but I'd be surprised if the Commissioner didn't get involved in an instance as blatant as that. If a team does try that, I think they should have to forfeit the posting fee as a fine. That threat would probably deter any owner not named George Steinbrenner from resorting to such tactics.
  3. Isn't Josh Arteaga (Atlanta) also a former Cub farmhand? And I'd add Fernando Valenzuela Jr. (White Sox) to the list of interesting names because of his father (much like Jared Sandberg and Tim Raines Jr.).
  4. It seems to me like the bench coach is similar to assistant head coach in the NFL, while the hitting coach is the offensive coordinator and the pitching coach the defensive coordinator. That may not be real accurate, but that's what it seems like to me.
  5. Goony's evil twin is now on the clock. :D
  6. That would be interesting, considering the circumstances under which he was fired as manager (the infamous tirade). There actually is some precedence for such a move. The Cardinals once hired Red Schoendinst as a coach after they fired him as manager. I suspect other teams have as well.
  7. I'll need to see results before I'm totally convince he's the right choice, but after reading his comments I'm feeling better about it.
  8. Short answer: No. Long answer: Absolutely not, no way Jose, not in a million years.
  9. The questions have been sent to Bruce. They'll be posted once we receive his responses. With events of the past few days I suspect he has more important things to deal with right now.

    WOW

No offense, but the defense and Hester overcome a 20-0 deficit to win. Unbelievable. If this isn't a sign that this is the Bears' year I don't know what is.
  11. He's just doing that as a favor to his buddy Uncle Lou. :D
  12. Fixed. You won't be getting any help at all from Rackers. :D
  13. I believe the thinking is that, if the Yankees were interested in trading him, it would increase the chances of his being willing to waive his no-trade clause to come to the Cubs.
  14. I don't think IU has a chance to beat O$U, but I wouldn't classify it as a mismatch, either. They just beat a ranked (at the time) team and have some offensive firepower. It may be closer than people expect.
  15. It could be that he hasn't made a final decision but Girardi's out of the running (for example, it could be down to Piniella or Bochy).
  16. You mean they have Kyle Orton at quarterback?
  17. If you look at my earlier post, you'll notice I said IF he doesn't get another managerial job.
  18. That's actually the scenario I had in mind. Lou to get a quick championship, with Girardi eventually taking over to provide long-term stability. I agree with UK that McLaren is more likely, but I still think the Girardi scenario is interesting.
  19. I wonder if Girardi might be a candidate to be bench coach under Uncle Lou if he doesn't get another managerial job.
  20. There is no truth at all to that part of the report. None whatsoever. That's what we get for reading an article in a paper other than the Daily Herald. :D
  21. I agree with Rivers. I have him as my backup QB (behind Grossman) in one of my leagues.
  22. As I said in the Piniella thread, I think McDonough either needs to let Hendry be the GM with the authority to decide who to hire, no strings attached, or else fire Hendry and replace him with somebody that does have full authority. I'm not sure I like the situation where Hendry has the title, but not the full authority.
  23. If Hendry was told that he can't hire Bochy (as the article stated) it makes me wonder about Hendry's relationship with the higher-ups. I believe McDonough earlier stated that it would be up to Hendry to decide who to hire, but this report seems to contradict that. I think McDonough needs to either let Hendry be the GM, no strings attached, or else fire him and hire someone he trusts.
  24. Hopefully the son's days with the Cubs would be better than the father's. :D
