    Actually Contreras has been sent to the minors. That happened a few days ago. And the reason for that is that hes been horrible since 2005, so we really dont want him no matter what. Agreed. I'd love for the Sox to call him back up in time to start against the Cubs in interleague play.

    Yeah, I think it was July '03. He'd just been chosen to be on the all-star team and then blew out the knee at 1B. That year was the first year that the fans got to vote for the last player on each team after the rest of the All-Stars were announced. He had either won the voting or else was leading at the time (one detail I forget is whether he was injurde after the voting was over or while it was still in progress).

    Octavio Victor Rojas, according to baseball-reference. His nickname was Cookie. He was primarily a 2Bman and finished with a career 83 OPS+. Cookie played for the Phillies along with shortstop Bobby Wine. Togerther, they were a great double play combo, although neither could hit. In fact, in Philadelphia, they marveled at "the plays of Wine and Rojas" !! Hey, didn't they make a movie by that name ???? I remember Steve Stone talking about the days of Wine and Rojas. That was back in the days when good field, no hit shortstops were considered fine. I remember Mark Belanger and Eddie Brinkman as a couple of Wine's contemporaries.

    After some period of time (I'm thinking it's 90 days, but I'm not positive) they could put him on the DL with an "injury" and send him to the minors on a "rehabilitation assignment." The Cubs could do the same with Patton if he's inexplicably still on the roster then.

    Regardless of which player between Marshall and Wells stays in which roll the bullpen undoubtedly would improve. If Marshall remains in the rotation and Wells in the bullpen then it's bye bye Patton.

    I still think Don Baylor is largely to blame. He wasn't ready for the major leagues in 2001, but since the Cubs were unexpected contenders that year Baylor pushed for him to be called up so he could be used as a pinch runner instead of continuing his development. MacPhail is equally to blame, because he could have said no to Baylor.

    If you're familiar with the instrumental song that's played in many NBA arenas as the lights dim for pregame player introductions (I believe that started with the Bulls during the Jordan era) that's actually a musical introduction to Eye in the Sky.

    The Chiefs' web site doesn't show a specific scheduled starting time for Game 2. That makes me think it's probably a straight doubleheader rather than a day-night. I don't think I've ever seen a day-night DH in the time I've been following the Cubs' minor leaguers. So no clearing of the stadium right? Not with a straight doubeheader, like this appears to be. That only happens with day-night doubleheaders, which I don't think are common (if they happen at all) in the minors.

    Over a 100 point win for me even with the excess points from Raw's 8th start still on the scoreboard. Too bad I can't let him keep the points and instead dock him one start during our next game. :twisted:

    He was traded to make room for Peavy, correct? We should have acquired Peavy first, THEN traded DeRo. We could have afforded both DeRo and Milton Bradley on the same team. If you don't pay Aaron Miles there's a bunch of money right there. We couldn't have traded for Peavy first, because some of the players received from Cleveland were reportedly to be included in the Peavy trade. But we could have waited for an agreement on the Peavy trade before pulling the trigger on the DeRosa trade (or else structured it as a three-team trade with the Padres and Indians).

    There is some precedence for something along these lines. Two or three years ago ESPN had a reality show called Knight School, where college basketball player wannabes competed for a chance to get a walk-on spot on Texas Tech's team under Bob Knight. Competing for a Spring Training invitation seems similar to me. There actually would be a baseball-related reality show that I'd like to see beginning today. It would be called Extreme Makeover: Cubs' Bullpen Edition.
