  1. Unacceptable to not allow telecasts of MLB games. The only acceptable arrangement would be to not play any major league games at all during that time.

    Week 11

    I'm rooting for you. :D
  3. Really, these I-told-you-so threads need to stop. People are complaining about the atmosphere of the board lately, and I-told-you-so's are unnecessary and don't help.

    Week 11

This week marks the halfway point for the regular season and the halfway point for interdivision games.
  5. Maybe he can help Geo figure himself out. If today's any indication, maybe he's already started to figure himself out. Maybe getting yanked for a pinch hitter to bunt yesterday lit a fire under him.

    Week 10

    come on, man. It worked.
  7. This quote from Hendry bothers me: PROBABLY has a different approach? You mean Hendry makes the change without knowing whether the new coach's approach is different? :banghead: One possible reason for making a change that I've thought of. I'm sure other teams know that Joshua is an excellent hitting coach. Perhaps Hendry felt like he needed to promote Joshua to the major league leel as a pre-emptive move because, if the Cubs wouldn't give him a job at the major league level, somebody else would.
  8. Totally ridiculous to send Scales back down and carry 13 pitchers if Freel weren't coming back right away. 12 pitchers is already more than necessary; 13 is complete BS.
  9. That explains everything. The offense didn't get that bulletin. :D
  10. I think there's approximately a zero percent chance that Marmol would clear waivers.
  11. With stats like that, he'd be one of the Cubs' team leaders. Bradley for Patterson? Those are his MINOR league stats.
  12. Maybe Lou needs to get himself suspended and get a break for a few days, like in 2007. Coincidence or not, that seems to be when the tide turned in 2007. Maybe history can repeat itself.
  13. Someone forgot to tell the Cubs' hitters that the game was being played.

    Week 10

I lead by a fraction over 16, but I'm out of pitching starts and Raisin still has one remaining. I need Derek to put up a Lowe score tomorrow. :D At least it looks like I'll win the all-important Battle of the LaRoches.
  15. It seems logical to me that a player's trade value would be higher during the season than after. For example, last offseason we talked about me trading my 1st round pick to you for Prince Fielder, but I decided against it because I didn't want to have to carry his points. However, during the season I'd be much more likely to make such a trade (and perhaps even include a minor leaguer as well) because it would increase my chances of winning that season. So I don't think your analogy of trading Peavy for the 14th pick during the season vs. the 3rd pick after the season is valid, because I think during the season somebody would offer you more than just the first round pick. But if you're willing to trade Peavy during the season for a 1st round pick, let's talk. :D while i disagree with pretty much everything you've said in this thread, thanks for boosting peavy's trade value. The price I'd be willing to pay has dropped significantly now that Peavy is out for at least a month. :D

  17. I look at it from the other perspective: They're your assets until you drop them. From the perspective of the owner trading a draft pick for a player, if I trade a draft pick for a player that means I think the player's better than the other players I expect to be available when that draft pick comes up. If so, I don't think I should be prohibited from making the trade just because it also makes the other team better. That's what a good trade is, one that benefits both teams.
  18. what position is that bat going to play? Preferably 3B, 2B, and RF. I wonder if theres anyone like that in the majors who can hit. hmm... I'd trade Stevens, Gaub, and Archer for the player you're thinking of.
  19. and relievers Not really. The bullpen has been very good lately. The Cubs need bats.
  20. I'm pretty sure McClain was a FA invite. Scott Moore is one of the guys they got for the Tigers. Correct. Die Hard was returning from Japan.
  21. Does he really have the right to refuse to go on the DL if he really is injured? We're not talking about a phantom injury to allow another player to be called up; as long as the player really is less than 100% I'd think the team would have the right to place the player on the DL even against the player's wishes. Sure, they'd have the right, but he'd also have the right to bitch about it and claim that it was an effort to prevent him from reaching his games played clause instead of for baseball reasons. Not that I think that would really happen, considering how easily he can reach that clause. You're right that he could claim that, but given his injury history I doubt any arbitrator that might have to rule on a grievance would believe him.
  22. Walking Berkman to face Blum last night worked so well, genius Lou does the same thing again today. :banghead: "Thank you, sir. May I please have another?"
  23. There's no such thing as 14-day or 30-day DLs. Major league DLs are 15 or 60 days. They could put him on the 15-day DL and keep him out 30 days (there's no rule that a player has to come back immediately when eligible). Damn, what the hell was I thinking of? Possibly you were thinking of minor league DLs; they have more options. I know there's a 7-day DL in the minors; I don't know about 14 or 30.
