  1. :rotfl: The dude has no arm and is no longer got anything other than average speed. He's essentially a Jim Edmonds without the quick reads and strong arm. In other words he is not a good CF.
  2. They're are the type of players you love to have on your team and hate otherwise. They dive for every ball, play balls to the wall, are animated and push the rules defensively. Cardinal was much better though. Kramer is slightly better defensively but Cardinal was a great offensive player.
  3. Apparently 90% of us are pessimistic at the moment and 10% are optimist. However we are all in agreement that Harden is worth signing.
  4. That's absurd. I'd much rather know I was a shot here or a break there from winning than not be in the game. In the course of a season you will have plenty of 10 pt losses. Even the best teams will. I hate the near heart attack/anger I end games with when you lose by one in overtime. Would you rather the Cubs lose by 1 in the 12th inning on a walk off or lose by 3 in nine? We got painfully close in '03 to the world series. I would take that anyday over what happened in 06. Which scenario did you prefer? No matter what, I would rather be in the game. A ten point loss in the NBA might not even be a close game. You can't compare a season of success to a single game in a league that plays 82/162 games. If you're talking about division titles and playoff success then of course I would rather come close than lose big. However a single game when there are so many doesn't mean a whole lot.

  6. I voted with what each team's fans would consider success. If you told Yankees fans that you would win 2 titles in 2000's they would probably be somewhat disappointed. However if you told Red Sox fans you would win 2 titles they would be ecstatic. To me Red Sox fans would consider the 2000's by far their most success decade in the last 9 decades. Yankee fans would consider it one of the worst ones.
  7. Rockets lose by one in overtime to the Lakers. I would rather get beat by 10 than by 1 in overtime.
  8. I'm following ND this year about 90 percent for Gody and 10 percent on the desperate hope that the Irish can continue their pattern of having a great year when their expectations are low. Unfortunately he has no chance of winning the end of the season honors because ND's not going to be that good and the voters won't give it to someone who's not on a great team.
  9. I'm sorry. In all seriousness though which farm did you grow up on? I grew up in the town of Fowler, so I wasn't on a farm but I have several friends who do. I am Bubba's year, but I am at Notre Dame. Every year I normally go back over x-mas break for a game in the paint crew. One of my good friends from BC who is my neighbor is actually dating Bobby Riddell. ha. Nonetheless, I am really excited for Purdue bball this year. It's also weird to think that we have the preseason player of the year on our team. We don't have much of a supporting cast, but hopefully one of the freshman can step up and play a decent-sized role. ??? Robbie Hummel was picked last season as preseason player of the year. Kalin Lucas was picked this year. Speaking of Big Ten preseason stuff I really hate when any conference ignores positions where voting. The preseason team is Manny Harris, Kalin Lucas, Talor Battle, Evan Turner and Robbie Hummel. That's 3 guards, a wing player and a wing/PF player. I don't think you should be strictly limited to C, 2 F's and 2 G's but they should at least be a team that would be realistically fielded. No one on that preseason team is even close to a center and the only true forward plays on the wing shooting three's half the time.
  10. I'm sorry. In all seriousness though which farm did you grow up on?
  11. 19 years old, a couple of million, in Europe for 1 year. How do you become miserable? You're away from everyone you know, have a grueling schedule you're not used to, and get [expletive] upon by teammates and coaches who think you need to be put in your place. Plus your paycheck doesn't always come on time, if at all. Also don't even try to complain about it because your American and they don't care. I have a few friends play over seas and a lot of them weren't very happy at all while over there making good money. Also anyone else see the Louisville recruit got 2 points and 1 board the other night? Jennings also wasn't getting a bunch of playing time and for no real reason. Most Americans who play over there have said at one point or another that there is a very big prejudice against Americans and everyone is open with their hatred, including teammates.
  12. Who was it and what high school did you go to? I'm guessing it is Bubba Day, since he is the only guy from west side. Yeah it's Bubba. I grew up playing soccer against/with him and his brother. His brother is a year ahead of me and Bubba was a freshman when I was a senior. Another one of their brother's was in my brothers class and they played soccer together. Doubt anyone really cares but this is his Purdue bio.
  13. I do to, more so now since he is not a Packer. I hated him as a Packer, hated him as a Jet and hate him as a Viking.
  14. That's what I've been thinking. If the consensus is Europe prepared him more for the NBA a lot of the top players may decide to do it.
  15. My former high school soccer teammate got in the game for Purdue tonight. He was a star for the high school across the street from Purdue. Averaged more than 20 points and 6 rebounds his senior season and got low end Div I but chose to stay home and go to Purdue. Played pick up games against some of the players and Painter asked him to walk-on. Kind of cool.
  16. One of Doug Gottlieb's locks for this season. umm what? Big Ten football has arguably one great team, a couple good teams and the rest is mediocre to bad. Big Ten basketball has two great teams, 4 very good teams, 3 mediocre and 2 bad. Not very comparable. To put it simply Big Ten football is no where near the best conference this season while in basketball they likely are the best conference.
  17. That's why I said looking like. They have showed they have the talent to make the playoffs. That wasn't a sure thing coming in. I wasn't convinced a team led by Brooks, Battier and Ariza had enough talent to compete with the West. They beat Portland at home, Utah on the road (still a good home team), Golden State on the road and hung with Portland on the road. That shows they will be able to compete and are a playoff caliber team. Whether that translates to actually making the playoffs remains to be seen.
  18. That would be because of all the booth reviews and resetting the clock to 10 seconds, wait no 15 seconds.
  19. The Titans front four will have to get pressure without a blitz, I'm thinking. I'd have to guess Finnegan will match up quite a bit on Crabtree, leaving someone (Fuller or McCourty, I guess) to face off with Isaac Bruce. No idea how we'll defend Vernon Davis, probably one of the linebackers or Fuller. The key will be stopping Gore, I think. If we can stop/contain Gore and pressure Smith with the front four, it should stay low-scoring. If not, the secondary will probably have issues again. After Gore I would be more worried about Crabtree against your corners. He has looked like a polished veteran with his route running and ability to snatch the ball over the middle and has been much better than I expected.
  20. Sorry. Remembered it being a 4.5 40 in the combine. I guess it was 4.7.
  21. I knew Clements went down, but I didn't realize Staley was hurt as well. Hopefully that'll be good news for KVB and his resurgence. A big part of our defensive improvement was getting Finnegan and Fuller back last week, I think, and they should be a week healthier. Again, though, Vince is still a question mark and I really doubt they want the game to rest completely on him. I wasn't able to watch the Colts/49ers game, how did Alex Smith look against Indy? Looked very good again. His one interception (I missed it) was described by the announcer as a tipped pass by his wide receiver that should have been caught. He has actually showed a lot of poise in the pocket which was his problem in the past. Our o-line has been bad and Hill showed no ability to avoid the rush or pick up the blitz. Smith has been recognizing the blitz and feeling the pressure and then using his 4.5 speed to get out of the pocket bad bye more time. His arm is also fully healthy and he has been throwing an excellent deep ball. Our OC is also playing to his strengths. With Hill we ran very few non-two WR sets and were rarely in shotgun. With Smith we have run mostly out of shotgun (rarely played under center in college) and have run mostly 4 WR sets (a spread formation like he ran at Utah) on passing downs. It's still early but he is finally looking like the top pick that he was and the 49ers are looking smart for not giving up on him.
  22. I thought Aaron Brooks had a shot at averaging 20 points a game this year since he was going to be given free reign. I however am in shock at how well he has been doing. Had another 19 and 9 game tonight. He is now averaging 21 and 8.5 while shooting 50%. I have watched 3 of the 4 games and he isn't just running around and essentially be a ball hog. He is moving around without the ball and doing a great job at driving or dishing. He's not forcing much. The Rockets are now 3-1 with two wins on the road and two wins against playoff teams from last year. Looking like we will be able to make the playoffs which is just ridiculous considering we have $39 mil and our two corner stones sitting out hurt.
  23. It's on Vince to win. We should be able to shut down the run game. I believe we will go from 3rd to 2nd in rush defense after this week and are No. 1 in average yards per rush at 3.2. We haven't played the best run teams but we held AP to 85 yards, Stephen Jackson to 79 and Michael Turner to 97. It'll probably come down to him, which is why I'm thinking the 49ers will probably win this. For the Titans to win, they'll have to run the ball. If CJ can break even one long TD run, that might open things up a bit. You are catching us at a bad time. Just lost Clements for 6-8 weeks and Staley for 6 weeks. Staley worries more because he is now the third OT for us to get hurt. We might have to sign yet another OT this week just so we can make sure we have enough. What this means is the wonderful reject of the Raiders, Barry Sims, is our starter for 6 weeks. He did very well against Freeney but his true talent, or lack there of, will shine through. Probably starting this week.
  24. I used to think icing the kicker was stupid until I saw the stats for the past couple seasons. Don't remember it exactly but it was for kicks deciding the outcome in the final seconds and no timeout was 70% made while timeout was 57%.
  25. It's on Vince to win. We should be able to shut down the run game. I believe we will go from 3rd to 2nd in rush defense after this week and are No. 1 in average yards per rush at 3.2.
