  1. Nobody is trying to find the next Castro here. The numbers these guys put up are pretty decent though. Alcantara is a switch hitting middle infielder who has either pretty good speed or good base stealing skills judging by his 91% success rate. Plus, he put up a pretty decent IsoD meaning he should have some sense of plate discipline. If he can be a middle of the road defender, he could be a good SS prospect. Rosario's peripherals are excellent and he's been pushed through the system pretty quickly early on. Rarely do these guys turn into anything, but there's some nice results from some no names so far. I would love people to bring up some similar no-names with a semblance of potential. Farm systems have built up to some decent coverage, but the rookie leagues are still hard to follow. That's all wonderful but these guys are so young and played at a low level league that none of this is really worth talking about because there have been thousands who have done this and gone on to never get to even AAA ball.
  2. Could be they promised him a good amount of playing time.
  3. So we should check back in a year or two when they are close to being in the bigs?
  4. You guys are criticizing a move that gets you a player that OPSed .870 before the all-star break for 500k? I'm OK with the Cubs signing someone who OPSed that high for half the season for 500k. I'll take one of those every offseason.
  5. I saw that the Sunday it happened. They did an in game update for it I think (also updated score).
  6. I did that a month or so ago and got 120 something. Got all of the first row and all but two towards the bottom in the second row (don't remember exactly which ones). I just went through every team one by one and named the starters for them.
  7. Absolute must win for the 49ers. At home got to win. If we beat the Jaguars and then sweep the division again (plus Lions win) we will be 9-7 and have a good shot at being division champ. Arizona has Tennessee, Minnesota than us. If we beat them in three weeks we will likely pull into a tie for division lead and will have tiebreaker locked up as we would be 4-0 in division and they would have 2 losses. I would say our chances are slim, maybe 10-20%, but Arizona is hitting a tough part of their schedule and haven't played too well this season. They have managed to pull out victories but haven't clicked all season.
  8. Easier for them to schedule? I dunno. In case anyone was curious, they don't have an auto-bid into the tourney. The name is hilarious though. NJIT, Chicago State, UT-PA, buncha great geographic rivalries there. Is it a punishment for the team that wins the first championship to have to wear the hats and gear?
  9. We've got 2 Helms. [expletive]. :rotfl:
  10. Wayyy too close for my comfort. I really don't think Purdue played all that great. They did well but not as well as they could do. The last in bounds was confusing. Hummel is one of the best FT shooters in the nation and you have him in bounds it to a freshman. WTF?
  11. I always forget how much I hate non-Big Ten reffing. Let them play. It's a contact sport.
  12. So the announcer in this Purdue/Tennessee game talks about a player for Tennessee named Goins. I think to myself Ball State had a Goins two years ago that was really good but left after his freshman year. They then show a close up of the guy and much to my amazement it is the same guy. Had no idea he was at Tennessee.
  13. What reincarnation of a poster that was banned are you to make that your second post?
  14. Pretty sure everyone would agree with that. Fact is most top programs have a Helms title.
  15. LewJack did not play. Purdue didn't look that bad. Completely manhandled St. Jo's in the 2nd half. What is that trophy in your sig? It's the 1932 National Championship trophy. The picture accompanied and article about how the team was driven to make the Final Four in Indy this season. Eyes on the prize. That's just plain sad. I'm proud of the 32 NC and have mentioned it to friends before when they say we've never won one but I sure as hell wouldn't be using like this. It's not really something to brag about. It's cool and nice but doesn't mean much to any other fan base and most of the time I mention it they laugh.
  16. I don't know that much about Purdue, but Tennessee has been shooting lights out from outside so far - only 51% from inside the arc, but 47% from outside it. They also run the usual Bruce Pearl style - fast, heavy pressure and trying to force turnovers and get quick shots. I haven't seen much from them this year, but from listening on the radio and from talk around the program, they're playing much faster than last year. Scotty Hopson has been the star so far, shooting 59% from the field and 63% beyond the arc. Tyler Smith and Cameron Tatum have been quite good from the field as well. No true point guard, though, (but Melvin Goins might become that) and the inside guys aren't huge. Anyone that only beats DePaul by 4 points can't be that good. Purdue should handle them. Purdue is just as likely to lose than to win. They have not started well in any game and have been able to win because they were playing a team who sucks. Tennessee doesn't suck. Purdue starters haven't shot well from outside whatsoever this year if they struggle against Tennessee they will lose.
  17. LewJack did not play. Purdue didn't look that bad. Completely manhandled St. Jo's in the 2nd half. What is that trophy in your sig? I would assume Big Ten Tourney from last year. Personally while it's something to be proud about it isn't something I would I would go around bragging about how you got a trophy or showing pictures of the trophy. Brag about winning but not about the trophy. I don't know if that makes sense. Kind of hard to explain.
  18. I don't see why we need a thread about Musial's birthday but I would agree Musial doesn't get enough respect for how good he was.
  19. ESPN has LewJack playing. That can't be true. He was just ruled out indefinitely a week ago and there has been no coverage on the Lafayette paper about him coming back.
  20. Probably the last time for awhile Painter signs on to go outside of the country early in the season. Most Keady disciples don't do it because of the risk and distraction and Purdue is looking like crap against St. Joseph's after struggling in the first game.
  21. When the Jets actually get a QB that is a better option than him.
  22. Ron Turner says hi. Yeah I figured someone would say this. Both are awful but at least your offense moves the ball some. Our game against you guys was a perfect example. You get 5 INT's and only score 10 points.
  23. Not that surprising to me that a good offense like the Packers are controlling the game at home against the 9ers. It is when the Colts, Cardinals and Minnesota all struggled offensively against the 49ers. Plus I don't care what the teams are 17-1 in first downs is surprising to see.
  24. My God its 17-1 in first downs and we have had the ball for 7:33 in the first half. Quite possibly the worst half in 49ers history and that's not an exaggeration.
  25. The secondary hasn't been very good all season and with Clements out its well below average. If we don't get pressure we get picked apart.
