  1. As much as I value a great pen, what could we get for Marmol? We could get a stop gap closer until Cashner could fill the role.
  2. That would not be bad but, with Ricketts pushing youth, I dont see Colvin sitting on the bench. I also dont see how SD can move A Gon. I think a Greinke/Pena off season would be what I am wishing for, not likely but :beg:

  4. Yes that should be enough of that crap. Thats another reason I dont want another "name" guy
  5. Blake DeWitt is better than Ryan Theriot this year, and is younger. Of course it was a success. The Lilly portion of the trade was the issue Yeah, really wanted Ely, but Wallach was someone they liked, and who knows Lilly may be back, the 34 part i dont like so much, but leftys tend to have more shelf life

  7. Already feel like the deal was a success as De Witt is a huge upgrade over Theriot. At the very least, he will be a valuable bench player, but I like him at 2b so far.
  8. Look at what might have been this year if DLee, ARam, Zambrano, and Grabow had career-average years. Agreed, you got NOTHING out of 3/4 hitters and #1 starter

  10. Did anyone catch Len saying the Cubs were second in team OPS in the second half? Is that for real? and does that change anyones thoughts on how to improve this team in the off season? Is it just as simple as 1b and pitching, pitching?
  11. I am also a big fan of Wells. That being said where do you put him as far as starters go? a #3? ( ) Dempster Wells Gorz Cashner?

  14. I agree with you on all of that except the last part. I have little doubt in my mind Hendry is going to re-sign Derrek Lee. NO way, there is not a chance Hendry would bring back Lee, just based alone on the fact he tried to trade him. Why would Hendry upset Lee by trying to move him if he had any intention of bringing him back?, besides they know he is about done, from injuries or age. Can see him adding a 2/3 type starter for now, and approaching TR for an ace if in contention at deadline Trying to trade for Gonzalez, or going after C Pena Moving Fukudome/Zambrano Would it be a shock to see him kick the tires on Beltran or Sizemore?
  15. he already exercised his no-trade clause; he's not going anywhere. Yes, I know that but if a team claims him cant we let them take him ala Rios? Not if he doesn't want to go. A no-trade clause also gives the player the right to block a waiver claim. Same principle: The player can't be forced to go to a new team against his wishes. Ah, ok...btw Levine says the Angels would have given us two "good" prospects, who knows.

  17. There is no way Ricketts will let Hendry sign a major FA until we get close, I say lets make a run at an ace next year at the deadline if we are a contender. I think JH is going to have to show his ability to deal this offseason to the Ricketts
  18. Be nice to see someone claim Lee and take him off waivers
  19. On the other side, it could be argued that guys like Prior and Nomar were fortunate to last as long as they did considering how fragile their bodies have proven to be. Yeah, especially after steriods testing
  20. I could see this, and I think their baseball acumen would outweigh the obvious meatball fan pleasing factor Funny, I think the only benefit of Sandberg taking over when Lou leaves is the meatball fan pleasing factor. At least until the Cubs are back to the old ways of being out of the race in June. Then they'll turn on him. Maddux as assistant GM? Odd place to start. He seems like he's observant about the game, but as has been said, can he evaluate talent? I guess he wouldn't have to be great at it if... and it's a big if...he trusts his scouts and they know what they are doing. If he can sell the team and his philosophy to attract FAs would be a big part of the job. Along with having a good philosophy to use to build the franchise. How does anyone know if he'll be any good? I'm at least willing to give the guy a chance. Maybe he'll prove to be way better than Hendry. You don't know...I actually thought Paxson would be a good GM :(

  22. Wow, I thought it wouldve been closer to 7-8 mil.
  23. ZOMG!!111one Kosuke had a bad 2nd half of 2008 and slumped some times in 2009. Cut him!!!11 Im not saying he is a bust, but he isnt 12 mil dollar player imo.
