If Soriano were to continue to struggle, the Cubs have the ideal guy to put there. His name is Kosuke Fukudome. But, while Ryan Theriot was hitting 2nd for the Cubs, the Cubs averaged 3.5 runs a game while the team went 1-3. With Theriot out of the 2 hole, the Cubs are averaging 7 runs a game and are 3-0. Just put decent hitters 1/2 along with the usual suspects throughout the rest of the order and this team will win plenty of games. I agree with almost everything above. Soriano is not a bust he just is what he is. The Cubs view De Rosa as a Casey Blake type. They would look vastly different with Roberts and with Balt at 5-1 I don't see that happening anytime soon. Fukudome would be a great lead-off hitter but he does provide depth in the line-up at 5.

The blame goes Alou, Baker, Gonzo. Alou is one of the biggest POS is baseball and this comment has cemented him as an all-time great. -
So Lou is going to bat Soriano 1st and Theriot 2nd....

Yeah, swithcing them will do it. Well, really the only thing that would make Sori batting lead off more tolerable is De Rosa or Fukudome batting 2nd. -

I see where both sides are coming from. You never want to overpay, but sometimes it's the price of poker. The Cubs chips are in to win this year. Look, everyone stands to gain from the Cubs at least winning the pennant. Crane Kenney can say he oversaw the team to success after the stuffy trib bosses were gone. He indicated Zell gives him more lattitiude and I believe him. Hendry would get his job security, Piniella may only want to manage out this contract, and he wants to win now. Even Zell, this team may fetch another 100 mil with a ring or pennant. They (Cubs) are thinking now. Everything you see from the added seats, etc. is all about increasing payroll to win now and sell this MF for as much as possible with everyone riding off into the sunset, movie and all. So don't be suprised if the Cubs pay alot for Roberts and trade for Crisp, becasue Lou doesn't trust Pie with CF with a young Soto already behind the plate. If and when we do end up with B Rob and Coco, we will be right up there with the Mets to contend for a pennant, especially after we make a deadline deal for another starter!

I would like to see Cedeno win the SS job, but I like Roberts over De Rosa too much, and Lou doesn't trust Pie it seems.

Those are all good alternatives, Alou was great in (04), i'm still mad at him for game 6 though. You could also go with Sutcliffe (84) Prior (03) Wood (98) Maddux (88) and I will still take Dernier's (84) just because he and Sandberg provided a good OBP duo at the top of the order. That is always going to be my favorite team until we win it. Sorry, Lee Smith was better in (83) I was just going by memory. Wilkins had a fluke year, I'll still take Jody.

I like just having two uniforms like the Red Sox and Yankees. I even like what the Dodgers did with the old-school road unis they changed to last year. I would like to see the road greys changed to the 1969 style with names on the back in just blue.

This should mean the Roberts deal is making progress, Cintron would replace Cedeno as #2 SS on depth chart.

Hey everyone, long-time reader of boards, since winter of 2004. Just wanted to say Bruce Miles is pretty cool for being a member here and covers the Cubs like no one lese, but the Bruce Levine bashing is off-base. Levine is in the loop with a lot of front office people and Gm's. He gets his info earlier than most press people based on his relationships. This deal is a head-scratcher the Cubs badly want Roberts, and Hendry and Mc Phail are still good friends you would think this would be done by now but look how long the Bedard crap went on.
