  1. Well, I will talk to someone in Canning's group tonight. Maybe I can find out the latest? Maybe Lou Weisbach's group could figure in a smaller deal?
  2. FWIW, I do know one of Tower's right-hand guys, and they seem to love Jimbo. This guy told me during the WS that were kind of screwed with Kosuke.
  3. Except for Soriano, the NTCs the Cubs have given out have been to players who were knowingly signing below-market-value deals to stay in Chicago. You don't get Lee or Ramirez to walk away from extra millions/years without giving them protection like that. No Howry, it seems like everyone on this team has one.
  4. No offense to Dallas, but did anyone else hear this? I find it rather hard to believe that Towers would say that. I just missed the Towers interview, but I saw someone on BCB say the same thing. They said it would be in their podcast section, but it's not yet. Yeah, it's(podcast) not up yet ,I was suprised at Tower's candor. He basicly said the game is built on relationships and seemed to give Jim the advantage.
  5. Towers was just on with Levine and basicly said he would give Hendry the leg up becasue of their relationship. This is what Hendry brings to the table, alot of baseball people like him.
  6. The fact that Zell is going to hold on to part of the club also seems to rule out Cuban. I think the Canning group would make sense as well as Ricketts because of their relationships with Chicago biz men. Zell already has ties to these guys.
  7. Don't dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back. ;) Some of you misinterperate things. I was mostly pointing out that De Lucca is not exactly on top of things, and yeah when you share unpopular news it isn't well recieved. I want Cuban as an owner more than anyone. It's just that when someone close to the situation tellls you it aint gonna happen like they tell you there is no Santa you understand or you deny. The ESPN and Cuban talk is just spin-control. MLB will look very bad if this is proven. On another point though, other than Bruce Miles, these writers who cover baseball in this town don't know Howry! Not saying I do, but holy Howry they make this stuff up it seems half the time. Hendry told me that the only reporter he trusts with anything is Bruce Levine. Mostly because Levine has info from all of the GM's and they share. Levine has been way out in front on the Peavy stuff as the writers were poo-pooing it. Now they jump on the bandwaggon. So, in short, there's still absolutely nothing that indicates this is anything besides an MLB employee talking out of his or her ass or giving their opinion. Well, De Lucca's source sounds more like a Selig guy, however some of the info that got out is from people involved in the actual deal. Think prospective buyers, Trib suits. I was given way more than an opinion, it was stated as take it to the bank, how could you even think he has a chance, don't be so niave fact. The only people who actually think that Cuban has a chance are fans according to these people.

  9. Can't wait for Mariotti's next Trib column. Yeah, Ryan reading is a skill you know. I had Mariotti in talks with the Trib which happened all the way! He will still end up with the Trib sooner or later. No one cares. Yeah, apparently Ryan does.

  11. Had this back in September. http://chi-ball.com/blog/2008/09/cuban-out/
  12. JH does not see Adam Dunn capable of playing RF.
  13. Jim Hendry once said to me "Well, first off your mistake was reading anything by Phil Rogers."
  14. Stockton does play by play (poorly), not a color-guy. Grace, Sut, and Karros would all be good options NO DJ!
  15. Yep, awful news that the 1st Cubs GM to bring the team to consistent respectability would get an extension. Worst. News. Ever. Not saying I agree with everything he does or even his overall philosophy, but, hey, we could have Ed Wade or Ned Colletti. Ned Coletti :-& The only thing worse than his moves is his toupe
  16. He does make more sense than Showlater IMO. http://chi-ball.com/blog/2008/10/18/brenly-a-finalist-for-brewers-job/
  17. LOL. Yeah those are just my opinions. You could win a championship with the team we had, it just hasn't worked well in two post-seasons.
  18. I'm happy about this, just get us a lead-off hitter and a LH bat. http://chi-ball.com/blog/2008/10/16/hendry-extension-close/
  19. Rivera is an amazing, once in a lifetime player. It is highly unlikely that Marmol is another Rivera. I'm not so shure that Marmol wouldn't compare with a young Rivera? Does anyone care to pull up a comparison? I'm not saying I wouldn't take a blow-away offer.
  20. I don't get this sentiment that all relievers are expendable. What if the Yanks sold high on Rivera?
  21. NL Scout told me he is suspect with breaking stuff, nice role player off bench, same with Hoff-p. Would not be as effective full-time. Just one opinion. I want either a Roberts or Furcal and use Theriot or Der Rosa as super ub or trade.
  22. Very good point. Even if you were able to replace Wood with Marmol, replacing Marmol would be very difficult. No?
  23. Hmm, I thought his splitter was effective for him. If he has more control, were looking at a prety nice starter. He could be a horse.
  24. I thought he had about 4 pitches?
