  1. What if Bruce is busy trying to confirm these sources? This is the 24-hour news cycle and new journalism. "Confirming" sources is an anachronism. :) True, but it seems to me that Bruce will not relay any information about the Cubs and their plans, unless he gets the info straight from the horse's mouth. None of these second hand info. That is not Bruce's style. However, Ken Rosenthal and Bruce Levine are pretty good at that game. These sources are often not second hand. They are people like Kenney, Hendry, etc that just want it to not be attributed to them.
  2. According to Steve Phillips, it would be 2 years, 12-14 million. Really? We can't pay that? Skip the Peavy garbage, re-sign Woody, sign Bradley and call it a day. Um yeah, skip that one of the best pitchers in baseball garbage to sign a guy who will undoubtably get hurt next year while we have a better closer in waiting. Yeah, ](*,)
  3. Yeah, I personally love DeRo. I would have a nice conversation with him as I doeve him to Philadelphia so we can get Peavy.
  4. Yeah, been going since 04. Fun. Ever go to Don and Charlie's while there?
  5. Well, Ricketts is a Cubs fan. So hopefully that means something. He recently met with Steve Stone to get some feedback I'm told. I'm glad that a potential Cubs owner is consulting a White Sox announcer. That's helpful. Say what you want about Stone but although he's a White Sox announcer, he's a Chicago baseball guy. Wasn't Steve Stone interested in buying the Cubs at one point? Yeah, I find it odd. This Stoen thing. However, Stone is respected for his "insight" on the Cubs situation with these guys. It seems every local potential owner knows Stone well. Canning,Weisbach, Marovitz,Ricketts,Kleff,Melman,Levy, etc. Also, he wanted a consulting-type position. Not going to happen now that he took the Sox job.

  7. That Utay group is the unknown third party my Canning guy told me about.
  8. http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/for_the_record/posts/25681?eref=fromSI
  9. Here is the latest, its down to Ricketts and Klaff according to my peeps and the ap says Cuban has been out for months. http://chi-ball.com/blog/2008/11/sources-cubs-sale-down-to-two-ap-cuban-out-for-months/
  10. Agreed, however Eyre mentioned they had un-needed extra pressure from the 100 year thing. I can't imagine Cubs pressure is greater than ND.
  11. I am going to ask something along those lines following Eyre and Lou's comments about pressure.
  12. I'm sure he wont say what we all know..Weis sucks
  13. I'm opening myself up to alot of possible smart-assness but.. Going to interview Shark soon. Any ? you would like to ask? I will pose one from the members of NSBB O:)
  14. Yeah, I know it's Sullivan, so take it for what it's worth. The saga continues... Paul Sullivan is a sensationalist hack...And a hobbit. Here ye, here ye. Rogers too, and De Lucca while were at it. Haven't really formed an opinion on Wittenmeyer though.
  15. Good reporting Donnie. I was pulling for you. It sucks when you can't divulge sources, but I'm sure Peavy wouldn't say anything he didn't mean. I think this smells like a deal is happening. The power of the player's wishes are important. Hendry sat Wood down Tue night at dinner and let him know to move on, it was said that if we got Jake we wouldn't retain Wood.
  16. So one bidder is Ricketts, the other is unknown to media, so is Cuban the other bidder? No, Canning's group is still alive.
  17. Have an update. This thing is being offered as a partnership with Zell. There are only 3 bidders left. This is a very reliable source, he thinks Ricketts is the guy still. He is in another group, and he mentioned the third group is an unkown to the media. http://chi-ball.com/blog/2008/11/cubs-sale-down-to-three-ricketts-and-zell-partners/
  18. Yeah but, sources usually are anonymous. On a side note Hendry met with Woody tonight.
  19. All I've heard on that is the stuff that Levine reported and it's been handled "loosey goosey" until the deal is done. If in fact Zell keeps 50% they have to make him sell the Sox interest. Only MLB could get away with any of this.
  20. Well everybody thought the Roberts trade would go down...even Roberts was told. You're right though, this should all be taken lightly because things always change. Yeah, no one should be held accountable for the Roberts fiasco. That deal was done, and done, and done again.
  21. I can't believe they're doing anything than trying to fix the process to get the buyer they want. I'd like to see Cuban sue to get compensated for lost time and money for all of the effort that went into valuating and bidding on the team. You make some good points. It all sounds like Canning's group is going to get back in the door.
  22. Before the Zell keeping half story came out, Ricketts was the last one standing according to someone in Canning's group.
  23. Actually Ryan, what people have said is that Cuban would have a real good shot at another club (Pittsburgh) if he doesn't act up over the Cubs thing. It's just that he won't get the Cubs. 1. They want local peeps, in part that is why Cuban contacted Jim Anixter to join his group. 2. Reinsdorf (I even heard that Cuban might offer him some$ under the table to appease?) 3. Selig doesnt want a Steinbrenner Jr. with a huge market
  24. Ha, ha. The people in Canning's group aren't that hard to find.
