  1. I know this reeks of "lightning in the bottle", and if Piniella/Hnedry wants Edmonds, they'll get him, but isn't it possible that Edmonds could give the Cubs atleast a decent line in about 250 at-bats for the rest of the yr? Look I prefer Pie playing in CF over Edmonds/Johnson, that's not going to happen until 2009. I'm not 100% behind this move, heck, I am not even 30% behind this move, but I l realize, it doesn't mean much how I feel (or anybody here feel), but barring a surprising move, Edmonds will be a Cub. We can hope that if he craps out for about 2 weeks or so, the Cubs will cut ties, quickly. I'm hoping for a Gary Gaetti type numbers for Edmonds, but I would even take a line of .250/.330/.410 from Edmonds.
  2. Maybe the Cubs think they can get a Gary Gaetti type season out of Edmonds (Gaetti had a line of 320/.397/.594 for the Cubs in 1998). Perhaps getting Edmonds into a more legit lineup, and the chance to hurt the Cards, might rejuveniate Edmonds. I know, I know I am stretching it, but let's face it....if Hendry has a hard-on for a certain player, he's going to land the guy (Lilly/Fuku/Soriano, etc, etc). And the fact that Edmonds has already told his agent not to talk to any team before he talks to the Cubs, just shows me, it's when not if, on Edmonds becoming a Cub. But I would only offer a minor league deal, and have him play for Iowa for about a week, 10 days before I'd make a decision on Edmonds, taking a spot on the 40 man roster. I would prefer Pie playing against RH, but it seems to me Hendry is determined to land Edmonds.
  3. Agreed. Sign him to a minor league contract, and give him 2 weeks to show he still has game left in that body. If he doesn't, simply released him. His poor start with San Diego, maybe coincides with him declining, or the fact that San Diego sucks. Give me a 1-2 weeks minor league assignment, and see if he has anything left. If he doesn't, no harm, no foul.
  4. I would get a roped double to left center, to be honest.
  5. The LAST absolute movie I want to see is Indy Jones 4. But of the movies in June, I guess the 2 I might go and see would be "Hulk" and "Get Smart" seeing as I am a fan of both Steve Carrell and Ed Norton, Jr.
  6. I feel like the Mets messed this up. They should've let Patterson hit, then if he gets a hit, you say he hit out of order. It was Ross who hit out of order, not Patterson. Had Patterson led off the ninth, it would have been the correct order.
  7. Don't feel bad, C24Y, you're team is still plenty talented, and we were fortunately not to face Webb. You guys sound rebound nicely with your next series.
  8. As things stand, I would never trade Marmol. Ever. that's a little excessive, but some people here continue to undervalue marmol on the principle that he's "just a reliever." marmol was fourth on the cubs' pitching staff in VORP last season and second this season. he's #2 in baseball in relievers' WXRL this year and #19 last season despite spending a about a quarter of the year in iowa. trade him away and you're losing a LOT. Some people on this board believe this kid, Marmol, could still end up at the front end of the rotation, if the Cubs could find his replacement in the pen. So to possibly trade a guy who is your most important pitcher---not name Zambrano----for a SS is not a good use of resources. Cedeno can more the put up similar numbers to Greene, and Ronny is already in the org. Trading Marmol for Greene doesn't make any sense.
  9. Oh man, who did you sleep with to get tickets for such a legendary matchup?
  10. Calm down, people, the Cubs will win this game and get the sweep.
  11. I thought Arizona was stupid for extending Byrnes and traing away Quentin.
  12. In that case they can only give it to Geovany Soto as no one else is worthy of the name. No, future rookies have to be of the quality of Geovany Soto in order to win the award.
  13. Beating themelves? That sound skind of kinky. Do their women know they "beat themselves?"
  14. The Bulls wouldn't have had to pay $6 million to have gotten him considering that the Bulls job is perceived as a much better one than the Knicks one. It doesn't change the fact that Paxson and the Bulls were not in love with D'Antoni as coach, as evident of them dragging their feet to offer him a contract. Paxson wants a coach who will preach defense (why fire Skiles, then, I know) and seeing as DA abhors to the words defense= no a good fit for the Bulls. But the feeling I get is that Paxson wants a coach he can manipulate into doing he (Paxson) wants, and not some coach with a backbone. So my guess Paxson is going to hire the "Flavor of the month" hot assistant to become HC. So I am guessing Thibadeaux from Boston will be Paxs guy.
  15. No it's not....The Cubs WILL win this game.....
  16. My question is....if Scherzer loaded the bases, why the heck is Derrek Lee swing on the first pitch? It he stays patient, Scherzer would have grooved him one later in the at-bat. There was no reason why Lee should be "first pitch" swinging. That inning will prove the Cubs downfall this game. My next question: If Reed knew he was going to be thrown out, how about instead of trying to finesse it, how about make the catcher earn the out, by running him over?
  17. QFT It's like first week of impressions 101. I respectifully disagree. A good HC impersonation is a good laugh. Dempster does it well.
  18. What was annoying was that Grace said during the Soto bat, that wit the D'backs INF playing back, conceding the run. All Soto has to do was put the ball on the ground and the Cubs would lead 1-0 (or something to the affect), and the first thought was,,,,with ARam at 3rd, I want a fly ball in the OF. And WAY the heck is Ojeda making that throw in the 2nd inning? That doesn't bode well for the D'backs chances at scoring if they are making those kind of decision. They luck out and get the out, but that's not a good decision by Ojeda. How was that not a good decision? It was an easy decision. Ramirez was barely off third when Ojeda got the ball. Just a decent throw easily gets ARam. It wasn't a good decision, period. ARa got a bad jump off third base, which the decisione easier. But had ARam got a good jump off third, Ojeda would have settle for the out at first. It's never a good idea to throw home early in the game unless: A. You don't think you are going to score many runs. B. You got an extremely slow runner at third, to which better your chances at throwing the guy out. Throwing home this early in the game is always a stpuid decision. D'Bags got lucky it worked out, but had it not, the Cubs would be 1-0, and would have turned the lineup over quicker. There was no upside into throwing home this early. But fortunately for them, they got the out. But 9 out of 10 times, Ojeda doesn't make that throw.
  19. I remember seeing this play and thinking "this guy doesn't belong in the NFL." And now he's a Bear. Joy. I forsee much consternation from Bear fans over Lloyd. There is a decent chance he won't even make the team. I would say there is more then 60% chances of him not making the team. I expect in mini-camp that guys like Bennett/Monk/Hester/Hass/Rideau should all out play him. (Davis and Booker---based on contracts---are guarantee spots) When your best trait as a player is that "you know the system", that doesn't bode well at all. Lloyd, IMO, is a training camp body, nothing more/nothing less.
  20. What was annoying was that Grace said during the Soto bat, that wit the D'backs INF playing back, they were conceding the run. 21. Not getting D'Antoni is NOT a bad move, people. I liked him, but not at $6 million a yr. The Knicks are a better fit in the sense, DA doesn't preach defense, and the players can't play defense. The org has to be united for the hiring of a coach, and seeing as the org was split on DA, maybe it's a good thing the Bulls didn't rush into a coach the org was 100% behind.
  22. So what people who are against the trade is saying is....the Cubs could have had a Pinto, a Geo, and Marquis on the roster? What is the Chicago Cubs car dealership or something?
  23. The award shouldn't be called the "Rookie of the Month", I petition the MLB to rename the award to "Geovany Soto of the Month" award.
  24. Wilkerson is 31, Mench is 30. yet their best years are behind them. pity. As starters, yes.....both can and should carve out niches as 4th OF/pinch hitting specialists in time.
