  1. After hearing what Angelo said about Forte and Benson, I believe Benson has NO GUARANTEE to make the roster. Re: Benson, Angelo seem convinced that Benson is not the RB they thought they were getting a couple of yrs ago. So, IMO, I think Benson will be cut, if he isn't....he's on VERY THIN ICE with the org.
  2. The same reason why the Cubs didn't sign Tim Lincecum.
  3. I could see the PUP for Benson, not because of injuyr, but because no team has signed him after the Bears cut him.
  4. I wonder if the cold might keep Sheets shoulder a little tighter than normal. Which is why, the Cubs will absolutely be at their "patient" best tonight. I Sheets top throw 80-85 pitches between 3-4 innings.
  5. I know this is slightly off-target, but I will make a bold prediction.......Marcus Monk is going to be the Bears Marques Colston. Don't believe check up both Colston and Monk's careers. Check out their 40 times, the college numbers (heck they both even missed significant time in college). Check out where they ended up being draft? Both were either the last WR/TE draft or the 2nd to last WR/TE taken in their respective drafts. And before people say Colston had Brees, remember Brees was coming off shoulder surgery, of his career yr at the time. Now, I am going to lower my expections on Monk abit, but Monk has definately traveled a similar path as Colston. Here's to having the new Colston.
  6. As much joy as I would get out of watching the Celtics lose (especially to Atlanta), I highly doubt this. Maybe so, but something tells me, ATL is going to push the Celts to 7 games, before the C's move on. But I am keeping hope alive that both Detroit and Boston ends up being upset in the 1st rd.
  7. Methinks, that if everything goes to plan, Eric Gagne should not have the opportunity to blow a save, seeing as the Brewers should be losing int he 9th every game of the series.
  8. Because, Morris would have to pitch "Johan Santana esque" till July, just to get a prospect in return for Morris. And seeing as that's unlikely, you are either paying him to lose games for your team, or paying him to stay away. IMO, paying him to stay away make more sense.
  9. If the Cubs were truly "fed up" with Pie, they would: A. Send him back down to AAA to rot. B. Not even bring Dave Keller up to work with the young man. C. Piniella would not have personally worked with Pie. D. The Cubs would have traded for Coca Crisp, already. So, I doubt buy this "Cubs are fed up" with Felix Pie. I think it's made up fairy tale.
  10. I agree. I would have like Angelo to have taken a flier on a guy like Dixon or Ainge, but I sure as heck don't blame him for passing on them. If anybody watched Instant Replay on Sunday, you would know that Angelo was NOT impressed with the QB class of 2008. My thing is there was no QB that absolutely NEEDED to have in this draft. And neither Brohm or Henne is an upgrade over what the Bears already have. If the Bears had taken Henne or Brohm we would be back here in 4 yrs, figuring out which QB the Bears should take. So Peter King's "The Bears didn't draft a QB, means they had a bad draft" is as lazy of an analysis, as I ever seen. The Bears picked up a IMMEDIATE STARTER at LT, and early contributing RB and WR in the 2nd and 3rd rds. A DT who should contribute quickly also in the 3rd They picked up nice depth at SS and TE, and perhaps an OL, provided Barton and Adams don't begin their careers on the Practice Squad. So if the only blimish the Bears had on the draft the weekend, was them not taking a QB, then they had a really good draft. Agreed. But atleast Angelo didn't try and force one more good yr out of Brown and Miller and bring them back. At least he recognize that both guys were done as players and let 'em go. They prolly should had picked up an additional OL along with Beekman last yr. And with Tait 33 yrs old, they should have taken OL in the draft or even in the 5th rd. B/c I have no faith in the likes of Metcalf/St. Clair, and Garza. I think Steltz will surprise some people. When Kiper brought up the name of Doug Plank when Steltz was drafted, I saw that comparasion, I really did. I think with Steltz/Manning and McGowan, I think Archie should be a June casualty if not sooner. I believe this draft will determine Angelo and Lovie's future employment with the Bears. If they don't bounce back with a solid season by 2009, they could both be gone before 2010. And this draft class will go a long way toward determining if either of the next two seasons are going to be successful. That goes without saying. The draft is always play a factor in the coach/GM future employment.
  11. http://potencial.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/udfa-tracker/ A good site to keep up with UDFA....
  12. I believe Arizona Cardinals got him.
  13. As long as the kick the crap out of the Brewers, I can some-what forgive them, for the inexcusable performance in Washington.
  14. Didn't the Bears also sign an UDFA WR from Western Kentucky? Edit: They did, Curtis Hamilton.
  15. who also plays on sundays and torched the bears for 100 yards rushing and receiving. we're all going to see why thomas and mendenhall shared carries at illinois. We probably won't. Peirre racked up the yards because the Bears were crushing the Saints and were content to let them dump the ball off all game. He's a solid player but he's probably not going to get a whole lot of playing time this year. there's really an excuse for anyone racking up yards in any game. but thomas put on one of the best performances of anyone all year in that game. lol @ the thought that Forte is as good as Mendenhall Fixed I would agree, Mendenhal is the better back, but what would it have taken for the Bears to get him after Williams? My guess is at least a 2, 3, 3, 4 draft picks. I just dont think that would have been in the Bears best interest. Agreed. In the sort run, Forte should outproduce Mendenhall, simply because Forte is going to start, and Mendenhall has to split carries. Long term, I do see Mendenhall being better. With that said, the Bear absolutely needed to address the OL before they could even consider drafted a RB. IMO, I like the combo of Williams/Forte in the 1st two rounds. I think alot Bears fans will come to just enjoy watching Forte play, to be honest. I also like the fact that the Bears went SEC crazy in the draft. Williams/Bennett/Harrison/Monk/Steltz. It wouldn't surprise me if ALL made the Bears come September.
  16. We go to the 2nd worst team in the NL, and and lose 2 of 3, with also being shut out by some no-name pitcher? Not a great weekend for the Cubs. The Cubs better bounced back against the Brewers, and cream those guys. Cause losing the series to Washing is really embarrassing.
  17. Is this the end of the line for Matt Morris? Or is there a team foolish enough to take a risk at possible league minimum for him?
  18. the bears essentially got Mendenhall in Forte. Forte has more mileage, but didnt cost them alot in picks as would have Mendenhall. Unfortunately, they Bears need much more then RB I don't think Forte is quite as good as Mendenhall. But Mendenhall doesn't have the track record that Forte has...Both have pros and cons.
  19. He may not have been as dominating as one would think, but props to the Cubs ace, Carlos Zambrano for stopping the mini-streak. =D>
  20. In baseball terms, I felt Angelo needed to hit a homerun in the draft, but ultimately his draft right now, is more like solid basehit to left. I like Chris Williams pick. The Forte pick should COME TO NO SURPRISE to Bears fans considering, awhile back he visited Halas Hall, and Angelo, IMO just seemed to be smitten by him. So it's not a surprise to see Angelo take Forte. It's going to be interesting in the 2nd day of the draft, to see what the Bears will do. Personally, I would like for the Bears to take another OL, perhaps a Safety, and a WR. If they can address these needs on Sunday, I think the Bears may have the most underrated draft.
  21. Considering the teams that picking immediately before the Bears (NO, Buffalo, Denver, and Philly), I think there is a strong chance that both Henne and Brohm will be available for the Bears.
  22. I thought about that too, but would Jerry Jones take Mendenhall over an Arkansas RB? I don't think so. Jerry's love for Arkansas players is vastly over-stated. I don't believe he's actually ever drafted a player from Arkansas. It is, but if Felix Jones is there for the taking, I see Jones popping for a fellow Razorback.
  23. Real good draft for KC. Maybe Carl Peterson does have a working brain cell.
  24. Wow, both Alberts and Otah are still available and the Bears took Chris Williams. It's a good move, but perhaps a safe pick. But of the 3 remaining OL at the time of the Bears pick, Williams, IMO, was clearly behind Alberts and Otah. I'm not saying it's a bad pick, it's a good pick, but simply a safe pick.
