  2. Those first three starts the defense up the middle was a combo of Castro and La Stella/Alcantara/Herrera. The 4th began the regularity of Rizzo, Russell, Castro, Bryant. Not coincidentally, that was when Lester started pitching better. He still had a few clunkers throughout the season, but no one is impervious to that.
  3. Just now reading that. I see that and I kinda hope he's intentionally holding back like it was suggested he might be doing. Makes no sense to be able to do that for so long last year and into this year, and to then just be like "Nope, not anymore" without any sort of injury concern. It's gotta be some kind of preservation, and I hope if it is he's gonna let loose in the playoffs and turn into God mode Jake again. That would be so very awesome. "It's okay guys, Jake has been hittable this year oh no wait a minute he's pitching Jesus, horsefeathers"
  4. We can't discount Syndergaard. Major League Ranks: Pitcher WAR: 1st ERA: 3rd FIP: 1st xFIP: 2nd K/9: 6th BB/9: 17th (the only other pitcher you could consider in the discussion for NL Cy Young with a lower BB/9 is Cueto) HR/9: 1st BABIP: 7th highest (.328) HR/FB: 2nd K's: 8th HR Allowed: 1st BB Allowed: 16th (6th in NL) The only thing that looks less than stellar is his W-L (13-8) I don't think he gets it on account of the W-L and the narrative, but when talking about guys in the discussion, you really can't count him out as he's at the top of the leaderboards in a lot of the more important categories, especially when you notice he's been one of the more unlucky pitchers in the league.
  5. How much of that "luck" is actually having one of the best defenses in recent history playing behind you, though?

  7. Someone on Reddit was curious what Bonds' overall numbers would've looked like without his MVP seasons factored in. He would've had an 87.2 WAR. Here's some highlights:

  11. And Rondon was warming up during the bottom of the 8th
  12. Better chance at winning a Cy Young: Jon Lester or Kyle Hendricks?
  13. To play devil's advocate: Corey Seager is really horsefeathering good and plays on a team with only one other player at the moment with a WAR above 3 (Justin Turner, 4.9. Pederson is at 2.9). The Cubs have 5 players on offense with a WAR over 3, 4 of them have a WAR over 4. So you could argue that Seager has been carrying most of the offensive load on his shoulders the whole year to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot, while without Bryant the Cubs would probably still be leading their division by a wide margin. To stop playing devil's advocate: Bryant has absolutely been the better player and deserves the award, plain and simple.
  14. 2nd half Hammel has shown it's ugly mug in 4 of his 11 post ASB starts. In those 4 starts his ERA is 12.11. In those other 7 starts his ERA is 1.02 2nd Half Hammel has been showing up more often as of late, though, as those 4 starts have happened in his last 5 outings. If it continues, it sucks but ultimately it's fine because we're about to clinch and his failure does not really matter anymore, and at this point even if he finished out the year on a strong note, I don't expect Hammel to be a post season starter so he won't hurt us when it counts. As soon as the Cubs clinch, Hammel's failure only hurts his own future, and we really shouldn't be too concerned about how it affects the Cubs in the postseason.
  15. Way to zone in on the franchise changing prospect, Tyler.
  16. We need a video compilation of Addison losing his bat
  17. Greetings from beautiful Mobile, AL! Go CUBS !!
  18. There should be a macro button added to the text editor that automatically posts the code for Fred's Cubs Win post. Appreciated everything Fred would do for the forum, this sucks. I was always perplexed because Fred would often censor my posts in the game thread when I would get mad at umpires. Even if my post was already censored from the swear filter he would just delete it and replace it with a period. He was not a fan of foul language against umpires apparently, or at least not my foul language, lol.
  19. Yeah, but Bryant didn't need a cup of coffee to figure out the majors. He figure it out when he was conceived.
  20. This Tom Murphy home run went a good distance, but it was right down the line. Hit Tracker puts the distance at 443 feet, which seems accurate given it's 347 feet to the left field foul pole and he hit it onto the concourse by what looks to be about 100 feet past the foul pole, give or take. Statcast listed it at 482 feet which further convinces me that statcast has home runs distances completely and unequivocally wrong. For reference, they said this Stanton home run travelled only 22 feet further than Murphy's (504 feet). A year earlier, Stanton hit this home run, which Statcast said travelled 478 feet, 4 feet SHORTER than Murphy's and 26 feet shorter than his 504 foot home run which appeared to have travelled a similar amount of rows up into the stands not more than 10-15 feet to the left of his 478 foot home run. Image evidence: 504 foot home run: 472 foot home run: 482 foot home run Statcast is horse horsefeathers.
  21. I upgraded to Windows 10 and it seems like ever since I did whenever someone embeds a Twitter post that has a photo or video attached to it, it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/Mh7vqHD.png It completely cuts off the twitter message, and half the photo/video as well. If it's a video, I can't click through to find the full tweet because it just wants to play the video, but the controls are also hidden so i can't even enlarge it if i wanted to. Not sure what's up with that. Using Chrome.
  22. What I can say about that video: - Solid shot composition - horsefeathers editing. In the beginning Russell just cuts into the shot without fading in, and then is followed but cut ins of overlays that make no sense. If they all faded in together it would look smooth - Color correction is pretty oversaturated, which probably accounts for the spray tan look. Whoever color corrected it isn't very good at color correcting - Please keep letting the businesses in the city of Chicago give you endorsement money so you never leave us, Addison.
