  1. Wilson Ramos appeared to have suffered a serious knee injury, and Dusty Baker didn't sound too optimistic about his chances of returning any time soon. Sucks for a player to go down with an injury, but should the Cubs meet them in the playoffs, Ramos was one of their key hitters all season long. If he's out for the rest of the year the Cubs may have caught a little break should they face them.
  2. I'm so happy for you! http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Kristen-Bell-Laughing-to-Crying.gif
  3. Got the rejection as well. http://i.imgur.com/PcRBRMN.gif
  4. 2nd post of the thread, homie.
  5. One of the guys from Pitcher List, which does all the pitching gifs and evaluations, celebrated his life the only way he knew how: with a horsefeathers load of amazing pitching gifs of Jose Fernandez being pretty much the best pitcher in baseball:
  6. Find the middle ground... Shohei Otani - Left Fielder & Closer
  7. Ahh it was Romine. I thought he was a defensively minded catcher?
  8. 2.28 ERA, actually! And a 1.94 if you want to get technical and round up. But yeah, hard to believe that one bad start is the difference between an amazing year and a legendary one. It would have been only the 6th time in the National League since 2000 for a starter to have an ERA under 2.00. The other 5 were Greinke, Arrieta, Kershaw (twice), and Clemens. Honestly, despite that stat posted in the rotation thread about how basically Hendricks and Lester have been identical in the 2nd half, I think Lester gets it based on more wins, IP, and K's. Assuming, that is, the writers don't give it to Jose Fernandez, which would be a classy, but more importantly an acceptable thing to do considering that coming into today Fernandez was the pitcher with the highest WAR in the majors, so it's not like it would be undeserved if they give it to him posthumously out of respect, he's rightfully earned it despite the tragedy.
  9. yea, the impact on me really surprised me. I see I am not alone in that. I've shed a lot of tears today watching other grown men try and hold back tears while talking about him in press conferences and interviews today. Mattingly's presser was rough. http://www.aol.com/article/2016/09/25/marlins-manager-sobs-as-he-remembers-jose-fernandezs-infectiou/21478881/ Also, FWIW on the dickish comment, my brother and I have been talking about future possible acquisitions and trade targets and we talked about Fernandez a lot. He called me this morning and was the one to break the news. He said "Guess we're not trading for Fernandez now, huh?" and he said it kind of solemnly. I didn't know what had happened and my worst case scenario when he said it triggered and I said "Oh no... did he sign a contract extension?" and he goes "No, dude, he died you haven't heard about it yet?" and I went from groggy to utter shock and disbelief. So I can see why this dude said what he said and didn't mean offense, but whatever.
  10. I don't know that I've ever been at a such a loss for an athlete who has passed away. It's always tragic when a ballplayer dies, but this kind of feels like a distant friend just died. I mean we follow baseball so closely and pay attention to all the players and Fernandez has been just that magnetic guy that you always watch the highlights of and you see his antics and I know most of us on here were fans of his personality and character, it's just so insane to think that he's not gonna be pitching anymore. I don't know what else to say other than just how fucked up this is. R.I.P.
  11. One of the worst home run calls I've heard: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v1184557983/collad-arenado-clubs-home-run-no-40-to-left-field
  12. We're gonna be down 2 with runners on first and 2nd. Bottom of the 9th. Game 7. NLCS. It was a hard fought battle and as a result most of the bench is expended. The opposing team has their hard throwing right handed closer going. He's been shut down all year long. This is the one to get us to the World Series. The only bat options on the bench are pitchers, and I don't think Jon Lester is up for playing hero. Or Joe could call upon... the secret weapon. Joe steps out of the dugout and looks to the top of the scoreboard and points, as if he's calling his shot. Then out of nowhere "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" begins to play. "BAH GAWD THAT'S KYLE SCHWARBER'S MUSIC, LEN!", J.D. will exclaim. The cameras will all turn to what Joe is pointing at, and then from the top of the scoreboard, descending like an angel from heaven, Kyle Schwarber will zipline down like a god damn champion... http://i.imgur.com/2bfzO43.gif First pitch dong, NLCS over, first world series berth since 1945. In fact he hit the ball so far MLB decided to break the rules and reward him with a grand slam for hitting the longest home run in postseason history, something the opposing manager was like "No, that's fair, he deserves it".
  13. Nice framing, Sanchez. Don't ever horsefeathering do it again
  14. The Mets just killed my fantasy team with that move. THANKS FOR NOT THINKING ABOUT ME YOU ASSHOLES
  15. Cal Ripken's house is for sale and it's classy as horsefeathers http://www.monumentsothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/detail/522-l-4828-sj5v64/13301-dover-road-reisterstown-md-21136
  16. Are they supposed to send out emails today to those who won? Or is that just general impatience?
  17. Man, CBS Colbert bums me out. His political stuff is still on point, but overall yeah it seems like he's reluctantly shoehorning in the Late Night host schtick, and it's obvious he misses the Colbert Report stuff.
  18. Here's the Colbert bit from last night:
  19. Then I just got a glorious sports boner thinking that even while cannibalizing his best pitch he still has managed a 2.96 ERA and the lowest H/9 in all of baseball while still inducing a ton of weak contact. If this is the case I also suspect we'll get one of the best contract walk years in pitching history next season.
  20. I expected to see our big three up high on that list, and Lackey somewhere near the end of it. Montgomery, though? Pleasantly surprised.
  21. Here's a nice long 4 minute clip of the clinch party in the locker room:
  22. Ben Zobrist: Kid at Heart http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/09/18/202018544/ben-zobrist-biked-to-wrigley-in-his-uniform https://www.instagram.com/p/BKdz1dTjGV9/
