  2. The order for the expansion draft is reversed from the league draft. It will be 9 rounds long, and you will choose 5 MLB players and 4 Minor Leaguers (as determined by league rules). There will be an MLB portion of the draft, and a Minor League portion of the draft. I'm assuming during the expansion draft the only players listed will be the only players available? Will that mean the previous owners will have their keepers locked in on their rosters before hand? Will CBS provide a list of all the available players before draft time? Also, can we assume that anyone not listed on the keepers thread by the previous owners are still available for the expansion draft?
  3. Will do, thanks!
  4. That dastardly fiend! Well, I'm definitely interested, so you can mark me down as a thumbs up, especially since it'd be a challenge and an obvious commitment. As I asked before, does this league have league fees? Also, what fantasy site/program is this dynasty set up on? Hey Logan, here's the forum we use to kind of keep in touch over the offseason and do the minor league drafts and such. http://mfcubs22.proboards46.com/index.cgi Another tough thing is you wouldn't have a 1st round pick this year. Roast traded it to me for Posada before the start of last year. But honestly, there's plenty of top 100 prospects that are still available. I also have some ideas of trades that might help both of us that we can discuss if you do decide to take it over. I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit of a challenge, but it's not too hard to turn things around and like I said there's at least a decent nucleus there. It's a free league and we run it through yahoo. We already have the league set up and we're just waiting on a few more people to join. So take a look and let me know if you're interested. If you have any questions just let me know. If you decide to take over the team just register on the site above and post in the check in thread over there. Thanks Cool deal, I'm in. I posted over there. Thanks!
  5. Thank you, I tried looking around, but there's so many topics on this forum and so much info I didn't know what was necessarily old or new. Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate it

  7. I've got lost o' questions, as this is my first keeper league, so please bear with me here if I sound rather... novice, if you will 1) I'm a bit confused as I thought this was a new league being formed, I had no clue it was already going on for a while now. Did I take over a team that dropped out or am I taking the place of an "expansion team" if you will? 2) I notice lots of other previous teams are submitting keepers, what does this mean for the newcomers. Do we have keepers to choose from a previous team we're taking over or are we, as a league, starting fresh and doing another draft? I'm really confused on that point. I'm noticing lots of teams submitting keepers and/or keeper rules and I have no players (as far as I can tell), so what does that mean for us newcomers? I'm seeing lots of players on their rosters that I was quite looking forward to putting in my draft strategy that I'm sure they will keep, so what does that mean for us? 3) If I'm reading this properly on here, am I correct to assume that CBS doesn't have a minor league roster, and all full rosters are kept track of here for the future when prospects and minor leaguers are called up? Also, if that's the case, are all transactions done through this forum and then carried out by the commish in the CBS league to avoid other teams from picking up players on their own despite them being on another team's expanded roster? I hope that made sense as a question. That's all I can think of right now. I'm used to 5x5 leagues, never played a point system, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it with no problem. Regardless of all that I'm really really looking forward to this. I've been dying to get in on a league such as this for a while now. Thanks for letting me be apart of it, and apologies if I end up sounding like an amateur with the league over the next month or two as I get accustomed to it. Thanks!
  8. If players go on strike because they're fed up with drug testing, then the public will assume the message they're trying to convey is "We're tired of you not letting us take steroids, so until you do, we're not going to play" And no one in their right mind would want to do that
  9. I've been fantasy baseball crazy this year, and seeing this opportunity I wanted to jump at it, but I'm not gonna lie... that team is making it difficult for me to offer to take it off his hands. Is there a league home where you can view the other rosters? I know I don't have tenure so if someone else would like to take it over it's all good, but if I were given the opportunity I'd like to see what I'm up against before making the decision. Oh yeah, does it cost money to join as well?
  10. I'd like to think that the proper grammar and journalistic talent was lost somewhere in the translation between the AP article and the posting of it on the Tribune website. If not... then someone at AP needs to get fired for writing that drivel, and someone at the Tribune needs to get fired for thinking it would be a-ok to post it on their website
  11. It's a shame they got it autographed. Getting an in person autograph on a sports card ruins its integrity and value. If they hadn't got it autographed it'd be worth what you would expect it to be worth. Since it is autographed it's worth no more than an autograph on a piece of paper or a different regular basketball card. It only holds value to the person who holds it. If you were to ever try and sell it or auction it off you wouldn't get nearly the same amount as a RC with no autograph on it. Granted that's general rule of thumb in sports cards 101, but perhaps it's a little different with an MJ rookie card. The randomness of this thread is fantastic That's why you always take a picture of the auto taking place or have it authenticated. I still ruins the cards original value though. But with an MJ RC it might actually increase, who knows. All I know is you don't dare compromise the integrity of a card that has such holy grail properties like that one
  12. No, the Gathright acquisition was because he knew he was going to get rid of Pie. He didn't need to replace Pie since he already had a backup CF in Johnson or Fukudome depending on who's starting that day. Well he needed to trade him to get Garret Olsen so we could complete the Peav..... awww crap.

  14. If this thread and the Roberts thread were to engage in an epic, Highlander-style swordfight, who would win? None of them. The thread about signing Aaron Miles would decapitate both of them because it actually happened :(
  15. Just got logged into the league and am now overlooking the rules and the point system. It's rather in depth. Definitely going to have to use a much different draft strategy compared to Yahoo leagues I've played in. Overall though, I'm looking forward to it, thanks for letting me participate. Oh, and I'm The Big City Sliders. I like small cheeseburgers. And the TV show Sliders. And large cities. None of that is true
  16. Are we sure that Byrnes signed that contract after Quentin was traded? I could swear he signed it before Quentin was traded, and also before Justin Upton got his first call to the majors. I kind of thought Quentin was traded because Byrnes already had a long term deal, Young already had CF locked up, and Upton had the brighter future. IIRC, Upton was called up for a cup of coffee in 2007. He's on the 07 roster on the BR page with minimal at bats. Byrnes signed the extension in August. So yeah, they traded Quentin in the offseason (December, for Cris Carter, who was sent over to complete the Haren deal). Perhaps they intended on trading him after his poor showing to make room for Upton? So in reality, they had already signed Byrnes, so they had a logjam in RF. Either way, they made the right decision at the time. I'd have traded Quentin as well
  17. Byrnes had a career year and was a team leader for that young team. Meanwhile, Carlos Quentin struggled to hit for the power he showed in the minors at a major league level, and pretty much struggled to do much of anything at the plate while he had the starting job in 2007. All the while Justin Upton was scorching through the minors at age 19 ready to be the second coming of Jesus. So what do you do? Do you bid farewell to a team leader who had a career year or trade the guy who, for all intents and purposes, sucked and was playing a position that was blocking Jesus Squared? They trade him. It makes sense. In the end they got Dan Haren because of Carlos Quentin, which I would say is kind of a wash now. But it would've been a steal. there was no way of knowing that Carlos Quentin was going to produce like he did last year. He dwarfed his best minor league numbers a year after he put up a 63 OPS+ in the majors while playing in "the worst division in baseball" at the time. While none of us would've resigned Byrnes like the D-Backs did, I think if we were faced with the decision at the end of 2007 to keep Byrnes, replace Quentin with Upton, and trade Quentin to complete a deal for Haren, we'd do it in a heartbeat. That being said, Eric Byrnes is on my list of people I want to punch in the face for being a douche
  18. Erik Bedard has been injured, one way or the other, in all but one of his 5 full seasons. It's not that he had one injury riddled season, it's that he always has injury riddled seasons. He's like the Milton Bradley of pitching. Great talent, tremendous upside, but you can hardly count on him to be healthy for a full season
  19. I had read he lied about his age, but I didn't know he lied about his name too.
  20. Jim seemed pretty slim at the convention this year. You know, by Jim Hendry standards. Didn't we all have the same sentiment about him last spring as well?
  21. Was it stated somewhere that Fontenot was named the starting 2B? I was under the impression he would split time with Miles.
  22. When I first saw it I thought the top right was Tejada
  23. . :-k It's mighty big of the players union to allow the CBA to be breached when it benefits their own, isn't it? I love the blurb about how the union would permit Cruz and others to waive their individual rights. I don't think the union has a say in that decision. Wasn't it the union not allowing ARod to waive his rights that prevented him from being traded to Boston and instead to NYC? I believe it was that he was willing to take a salary cut to fit in the Red Sox's payroll and the union objected. That would be correct. ARod was will to cut something like $30 million off his deal to make the trade happen, but the union wasn't having it. The union confuses me sometimes. Why won't the union allow something like that? Does the union get a portion of that money or something? If it's his money what do they care what he does with it?
  24. Every time I hear his name I always assume he was a player from the dead ball era. How come there's no players today with old timey names like that? Someone needs to step their game up and make this happen
  25. Even though comparing pro wrestling to baseball is silly, all things considered he really does make a good point.
