  1. So like pretty much everyone on this board. You're wrong. You don't know what you're talking about
  2. I'm not saying that they should've built another dome because of the weather, but logic and the technology of today would lead me to believe that a retractable dome would've been the best option, since you get both outdoor games and indoor games
  3. Definitely. Just saying it's not necessarily true that 99% of posters here would OPS 000. But I'm just in an argumentative mood. I'm already hitting .534 with 82 home runs and 213RBI in MLB08: The Show... how hard can the real thing be? Pfft... "major league". Whatev
  4. Why would you want to replace Jason Marquis with Jason Marquis?
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3833716 Interesting development Quote from Kenney on the Yankees spending, which is partly attributed to the reasoning behind the discussion...
  6. I don't necessarily think Hendry is being patient. I think if they had a deal in place that Hendry liked enough to pull the trigger on he would've done it at the winter meetings. That plus all the news about how the Cubs can't seriously discuss a trade until the new owner is announced and gives them the green light seems a legit enough reason to hold off on talks. I don't think Hendry is playing the waiting game with Towers because that's his srtategy. I think, if anything, he's doing it because he has no choice. He couldn't get a favorable deal at the winter meetings and he can't add that much salary without ownership approval
  7. The last time someone took a chance on a player who had an experimental medical procedure that guy ended up hitting a home run to send his team to the world series [/bad comparison]
  8. We're the Park Ridge Cubs now, didn't you get the memo?
  9. I think "scare" is the wrong term, maybe. If someone came back from the future and told me the Cubs didn't win the 2009 NL Central title, my best guess as to who beat them would be the Cardinals. But I don't expect it to happen. As well you shouldn't. Time travel is impossible
  10. With steroids anything is possible!
  11. He rejected a one-year $10 million offer from the Yankees. So maybe he wants more, which is absurd
  12. Why have people assumed over the years that Andy Pettitte is some sort of top tier pitcher worthy of a top tier salary? Sure he's had a few great seasons, but other than that he's been a perennial #4 or #5. I wish people would stop drinking the "Andy Pettitte OMG Yankee Legend!!!!" Kool Aid. At this stage in his career, he's worth $5 or $6 mil a season, but he's going to ask for $10-$12 I would assume, and someone is probably going to give it to him
  13. Rumor has it, some 12 year old kid who will name himself manager. And then he gives Poindexter permission to marry his mom if he hits a home run to win the game
  14. That sounds horrible. It'd make for good television, and it'd reel in viewers to try and get on the air. Sure, it's their own network, and they don't really have competition, but ratings are still important. No point in having a network if no one will tune in to your programming. Might as well do some trial and error and see what works. I think a formatted show like that would bring viewers in. Maybe even take opinios from emails and message boards. Which again, sounds awful, but I think it'd be a decent show in terms of ratings and viewer numbers. Mitch wasn't asking why, he was saying "He's injured, that's why" but he wasn't giving any real further analysis other than "he's injured". They were clearly trying to bait it for further discussion. I understand why the market for Sheets is dead right now. Finances are tight and he DOES have an injury history. But they brought up a good point that Burnett also has an injury history and made $80 mil, but Sheets is getting absolutely no offers. Over the last 3 years Burnett has averaged 27 starts a year (rounded up from 26.6). Sheets has averaged 24 starts over 3 years. They were trying to say that they both have equally sketchy injury histories, and Sheets is arguably a much better pitcher than Burnett, but Sheets gets no offers and Burnett gets $80 million. And all Mitch Williams had to offer up as to why was "He was injured at the end of the year". They were trying to see why he isn't getting lowball offers at the very least. That's kind of the debate they were trying to get out of the analysts and all Williams kept coming up with is "He's injured", not bringing anything really new to the table (or intelligent for that matter). He's the one with the greasy looking mullet-esque hairstyle. Kinda like Barry Melrose
  15. I can do the last one: Hundreds of pages of nonsense. I knew I was forgetting something. Here's the Brian Roberts thread cliff notes... - The Cubs traded for Brian Roberts - Discussion for a zillion pages, mostly about how Khalil Greene is God incarnate - Psyche
  16. Bradley's not really a HR hitter. I was surprised to find that he has only hit 100 or so homeruns in his 9 year career. Seems like a decent #2 guy. Well a lot of that is due to injuries. If you look at his numbers he clearly has the ability to hit anywhere in the range of 25-35 home runs, but he's never been healthy enough to do so. I mean he had 11 home runs through 40 games playing with the Padres in 2007, and 6 of those 11 home runs came in Petco. The dude has the strength to hit home runs, it's just been an issue of durability to give him the longevity in the season to reach the "home run hitter" totals
  17. - They talked about a deal - Came close - Hendry backed out, saying it was too much - Deal pronounced dead/on life support - Levine upgraded it to alive, despite every other journalist on the planet, living or dead, saying that there have been no talks whatsoever - Towers said there have been no discussions and reports say the trade of DeRosa was not to acquire pitching for a Peavy deal like people assumed, but to clear payroll for Bradley - No real news since. Talk and debate ever since.
  18. Yeah, everything Mitch Williams said was stupid. "Why isn't Ben Sheets getting any offers?" "He left injured" "Yes, but his track record of quality pitching has been one of the best of any pitcher on the market" "He ended the season injured" "Yes, Mitch, we get it, but plenty if players have been injured and have banked on their ability. His ability is arguably the best of any pitcher on the market, why has he not at least received any offers?" "That's easy, he ended the season injured" STFU Mitch Williams. I hate baseball players as analysts. Especially stupid stubborn ones
  19. Burrell will probably be one of the better DH's in the AL next year. According to ESPN the only "qualified" DH's to be considered a full time DH last year were Bradley, Kubel, Huff, and Thome. Burrell will probably be the best out of those that are sticking around. Great deal for the Rays
  20. They've had a flurry of technical difficulties I've noticed. I don't mind the old timey documentaries or anything. I don't like the Red Sox documentaries though. As if we haven't heard enough about their 2004 championship enough. Christ, shut up already. And the re-airing of the 2008 world series is nice and all, but I have no interest in watching it. I'm sure when the season gets back going it will pick up and have some good programming on there. I think a fun program to have on there would be a fan chat program of sorts, where fans call in to discuss news stories in give their opinions of it. Basically talk radio on the teevee. Might give fans an incentive to watch and call in and voice their opinion
  21. I see why you are having such a tough time grasping this. YOU are the one that's NUTS! It is BOSTON that is desperate, not the Cubs! The Cubs would be dealing from a position of strength, and regardless wouldn't be putting Soto or any regular, other than Soriano, in such a package. Most teams wouldn't be willing to give up such an offensive threat, and that makes a deal for Soriano even more attractive. Remember, I didn't say this was GOING to happen, only that it might. But if the Red Sox were indeed willing to see Beltran as a real offensive threat, how much more valuable would Soriano be to them? I hate to break it to you, but Beltran is better than Soriano in every facet of the game. Even though you can argue that their offensive production is a wash, Beltran is still better at the plate simply because he has the ability to draw a walk. He's drawn 90+ walks 2 of the last 3 years. Outside of that you can argue their offensive ability is similar. They put up similar power numbers and batting averages but that's about where the equality stops. - Beltran is a far superior baserunner - A far superior defender - He is younger (albeit only a year younger) - He is signed to a more favorable contract - He only has 3 more years left on said contract when he'll be 34 at the end of it, whereas Soriano will be 38 at the end of his Not to mention Beltran's offensive production in CF > than Soriano's production out of LF.
  22. if this is supposedly a detractor for Bradley. I have some words for you. You are doing it wrong. How about his .297/.395/.622 against the NL last year? Shenanigans!
  23. He certainly hasn't figured out how to take a friggin' walk yet But he can hit a single 30% of the time he steps to the plate . . . Touché http://robdamanii.com/macros/curses.jpg
