  1. which is why St. Louis was smart to lock him up when they did It also appears to be the trend now with teams and their young budding superstar players. Longoria, Price, Hanley, Braun, Sizemore, etc. Lock them up early and buy out their arby years while they're still developing and reap their peak performance for super cheap. Of course it can always backfire and a player can turn out to be a dud, but it's not like the players mentioned came out of nowhere. I really hope we do something similar with Geo sometime either in the middle or at the end of next season. Lock him up for the long term and for cheap. And I think if Pujols hit the open market right now he'd make A-Rod's contract look like a bargain
  2. Not really, we probably only got him for 2 more seasons. Aramis can opt out after 2010, and let's be honest... he will. He also has a player option for 2011 that is worth less than what he'll make in 2010, so he probably won't want to exercise that and he'll just opt out. He makes $15.75M in 2010... if he chooses not to opt out and stay, he'll make $14.6M in 2011. Aramis will probably have to be resigned again at the end of the 2010 season or maybe, in a long shot, Vitters will be ready to go by then and we can let Aramis walk and save lots and lots of money
  3. I will admit though that I'm not much of a fan of the tight stats. They're too close together. If the table cells were spread out evenly with some space so it'd be easier to read it'd be much better. But that's a minor gripe, everything else looks fantastic. And the inclusion of the extensive statistics for each category is stellar. Oh, and I also just noticed that if you hold your mouse over each stat category it will define it and also tell you how it is calculated. That's fantastic.
  4. Oooooohhhhhhh....... the stats are sortable now. That's awesome. Seriously, that would've come in handy in a lot of debates I've had over the years. When does this go into effect?
  5. Smooth move, Kinzer. Not that one team's blacklisting of your players will cause considerable damage to your clients' futures, but still the fact that they handled a situation so poorly that a team has decided to sever all ties and not pursue any player associated with an entire agency has to surely be embarrassing and/or frustrating to the company
  6. really? he grabs her, pulls her away behind that curtain and all the sudden you can see her tumbling to the ground. He was probably trying to get gum out of her hair. As for her falling, I'm sure he was all like "He, let's try that crazy twirl dancing I saw in "Swingers" real quick" and he accidentally dropped her. Verteran's Committee happens
  7. Nobody deserves that kind of money, even if they rescue a burning school bus full of orphans. However, its not about deserving, its about supply and demand, and if teams are willing to pay that much money, players are going to demand it. What if he or she were to cure cancer? Didn't you see "I Am Legend"? No good can come from trying to cure cancer, silly!
  8. Just out of morbid curiosity, would the O's consider trading Markakis, and if so would we need to give up more than we would've given up for Peavy to get him? Just curious for some opinions

  10. Where do you get off saying that kind of slanderous slander? Dunn is good. I like Dunn. I also like Bradley. I'd be happy with either. Happier with Dunn though. This has been Logan's hard hitting internet analysis. Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
  11. Why.... you..... son of a....
  12. There's a finite number of quality options. If a team has the room in the budget I don't see the problem. Boston has consistently gone after top tier talent and made it work within their budget while succeeding at a very high level. Why do people have a problem with that? I don't necessarily have a problem with it, I'm just confused as to why they're so adamant on it. Going into the offseason, I doubt first base was one of Boston's weak points. I understand Lowell got hurt and all that, but his numbers weren't terrible before his injury. I suppose Lowell is the odd man out in this situation.
  13. Talk about a luxury. The Red Sox don't need Teixeira. Not unless they plan on moving Lowell (or benching him). Youkilis was a Top 3 first baseman last year in the AL. Unless Ortiz is projected to miss significant time on the DL, why would they even need Teixeira? What does need have to do with anything? They want to field the best team they can. Adding a guy like Teixeira would improve their chances. Lowell isn't all that good and he's older. He and Drew are good bets to miss plenty of time. They already lost Manny last year and Ortiz is probably in decline. This is something you do when you try and build a 95-win team every year. I'd like to see if Drew becomes available in trade. I understand that, but is paying one guy upwards of $160 million the best option to fix that? Wouldn't there be other viable alternatives to signing the biggest FA on the market?

  15. Spending all their money in all the wrong places. He'll be a big boost to their offense, but Mark Teixeira won't fix their atrocious pitching Just for fun I looked it up to see how right you were. The Orioles were 11th in runs scored this year, but 29th in pitching. Wow what questionable decisions. I know, right? There's big names on the FA pitching market that would be significant upgrades to their rotation even if they got the 3rd or 4th best one available, and they're putting all their eggs into a basket that, while it could always use improvement, won't help them win games. We're looking at Randy Johnson to effectively be our #5 starter, and he'd probably be the #1 or #2 on Baltimore's staff. They are such a poorly run organization. And Angelos is clearly behind the Teixeira bandwagon to get him in Baltimore. Signing Teixeira would never be a bad thing if you take cost out of the equation, but good God their pitching needs severe help

  17. And compared to the Big Unit, Z fields like Maddux in his prime. Why are we comparing Randy Johnson to Z? Why are we not comparing him to the person he'd be replacing in the roatation (Marquis or Marshall)? I guess that's my fault, even though I wasn't really comparing them, I was using Z as a basis of comparison so people would stop thinking Johnson would be a horrible alternative to filling the spot left by Marquis There's reasonable evidence to suggest we can't expect a similar performance from RJ in 09. He's a horrible alternative because there's a small but reasonable possibility he won't be good, and there's an even better possibility he won't be healthy. Horrible may be overstating it just a little bit, but he's not a desirable option. Yeah, that's true. I suppose the way I was reading into the criticism was that Johnson didn't have anything left in the tank and couldn't produce effectively
  18. Well, even though he sucks now you can add Dontrelle Willis to that list, but I don't know if he was ever considered one of our top prospects
  19. I think so. I can see the Rays becoming the new Blue Jays. The team that'd be good enough to compete in any other division except their own.

  21. I never said I'd take Johnson over Zambrano, I was just pointing out to the people who are saying Johnson would be a horrible pickup that he performed slightly better than our ace did on the mound last year, and that if we did pick him up and he put up similar numbers as he did last year, he wouldn't be as bad of an acquisition as people are making him out to be. Personally I'd rather have Lowe over Johnson, but I wouldn't be disappointed if we landed Johnson
  22. Randy Johnson and Carlos Zambrano were virtually identical last season, for what it's worth RJ: 30 starts 184IP 173K's 3.91ERA 1.23WHIP 117ERA+ CZ: 30 starts 188IP 130K's 3.91ERA 1.29WHIP 114ERA+ Johnson was actually better than Z last year by a slim margin. If we can get Johnson on a reasonable one year deal, I'll take that in our rotation no problem
  23. Saito please. I don't care if he is old, now that Marmol will likely be the closer, we can use Saito to fill the role Marmol had the past couple of seasons. Actually I'm kind of shocked the Dodgers didn't keep him.
  24. They've been pretty vocal about saying Joba is staying in the rotation. They'd be [expletive] not to, and any talk of them moving him back to the bullpen is stupid. He had a 2.76ERA through 65IP with 74K's as a starter before getting hurt, you don't kick that potential out of the rotation for someone like an aging Andy Pettite. They would be insane not to keep him in the rotation
  25. I hear Bob Howry is a Free Agent... Not anymore he's not. Just ask the Giants. Oh yeah I forgot about that, well then how about we sign Bobby Hill Mark Bellhorn Jason Dubois David Kelton He Sop Choi Les Walrond and try and get a Pirates FO guy in the Padres FO and propose a trade for Peavy revolving around those players. Well we can't get Walrond, signed on with a Japanese team recently
