  1. Didn't Peavy and his agent say they won't approve a trade to the AL?
  2. That's the most awesome thing I've read since this deal died. It's reassuring to know that Peavy really wanted to be here, and it gives a shred of hope that he'll make his voice heard and force Towers to do something.
  3. He's a Type A free agent, and declined arby. He'd cost us draft picks
  4. Is there really a difference between Bako and Hill? It's not nearly as fun or appealing to say "Hillowned"
  5. I seriously doubt the Mets are going to pay K-Rod $13 mil a year to be a setup man. Besides, Rotoworld seems to think Putz is potentially done as a dominating reliever... and also they used some steroid undertones
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3761008 Has Zambrano slipped so far that he's now getting matched up with AJ Burnett in salary negotiations? If people are willing to take the blinders off and look at Zambrano's numbers the past two seasons... then yeah, he kind of has. He's still been better than Burnett, but yeah. Zambrano hasn't exactly been ace quality for a few years now
  7. That's just insane. I expected him to make a few bucks, but in my mind he's no ARod. Is anyone else shocked at some of the numbers being tossed out there for him? I'm shocked that the latest rumor is $180 mil. I figured he could command $150, maybe $160. $180 is absurd. Oh, and Rotoworld is saying it's the Nats that have offered him $180 mil.. Crazy. He is though a gold glover at first, and he has arguably hit better since he's gotten away from Texas. I kind of want him to sign with the Nats, even though technically they will be part of our competition. I'd like to see the Nats actually succeed sometime during this millennium. That and I really hate the O's so I hope they get him instead of them.
  8. 1) For the love of Christ could you please use the "Quote" button? Bolding your quotes makes your post look sloppy and it also doesn't reference the original poster making some people, like me, curious as to who said it and forces me to fish through the pages trying to find out who you are talking to 2) Lots of sports journalists have been covering baseball a long time, that doesn't make them good journalists. There aren't enough grains of sand in the world to compare to the amount of rumors Levine has spread that simply either weren't true or were incorrect, and I don't even listen to the guy. I know this just by posting on this message board. Every time there's any sort of rumor a lot of the time it comes from Levine on ESPN1000, and more often than not it ends up being bogus. Sure, he's reported deals that have truth to them, but even blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. But even so, it's his job to report what he thinks is news, and a low credibility rumor will give him ratings because it will spark debate and discussion. He's doing his job well in that capacity. But to get defensive because someone gave his opinion on how he feels Levine handles rumors (and it wasn't even a nasty opinion) is a little much
  9. I think it's a good deal only in the sense that they got him for what many probably believe was much cheaper than everyone thought he'd go for. But I don't care if you combined K-Rod, Trevor Hoffman, and Mariano Rivera into one uber closer... I still wouldn't pay him more than $10 mil a year
  10. As much as I believe this rumor has 0% credibility, and as much as I like Zambrano as a Cub, I would have no qualms trading him to another team if it brought back a big impact bat
  11. That's actually a lot less than I thought he'd command. Still too much for a reliever though, regardless of who they are
  12. For a guy who is averaging around .275/.346/.459 19HR 75RBI over the past 3 seasons it's not too bad at $6 mil....... if he wasn't going to be 35 next year
  13. Works for me. Maybe the internets are mad at you.
  14. I don't even know what constitutes a football HOF'er, and I don't really care.
  15. Good, Smoltz shouldn't retire. He still has an amazing pitching arm at his age. Hopefully his injury doesn't set him back too much
  16. you'd rather have a low .800's OPS RF with terrible defense (abreu, ibanez) than jake peavy? why did you bring you bring up abreu and ibanez when he said dunn? i thought he was saying he'd rather have dunn or anyone else mentioned than jake peavy. i guess i misread it Ahhhhhhh. Okay. Confused for a second there
  17. you'd rather have a low .800's OPS RF with terrible defense (abreu, ibanez) than jake peavy? Low .800's? Don't you mean low .900's? And when you think about it, Dunn could be considered a bigger need. Sure we all want Peavy over Dunn, but if we don't get Peavy our rotation is still one of the best in the NL, but our RF situation is still in shambles. Getting Dunn would solve that, so we'd still have a top notch rotation, and a slugging RF'er to fill our glaring need Edit: oh, you're talking about Abreu and Ibanez. Why?
  18. We wouldn't have had to if Hendry didn't trade him to the Reds for virtually nothing!!!!!! U SUX0RS HENDY!!!!!1!
  19. Haha, so he's "that guy". Well at least if trade negotiations with the O's in the future are being held up we can now assume it's as much MacPhail's fault as it is Angelos'
  20. So who wants to take a flier on Brad Wilkerson? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?
  21. I believe that rule was changed at the same time they stopped charging teams compensation for "B" level players. It was changed. You can bring anybody back at any time even if you didn't offer arbitration. Thank Andy MacPhail for that sensible rule. He got it changed during one of the CBA negotiations. He and the key player reps also averted a strike in 2002. That still doesn't change the fact that he's a very unreasonable trade negotiator. j/k. Well, I'm not kidding, but yeah that was a joke
  22. Would that package even get us Lind alone? I know he hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire, but he was still their top prospect at one point, although it seems he can't take a walk if his life depended on it. Would the Jays just trade him for an overpaid innings eater and a serviceable reliever? I'd love to have the guy and all that but that seems like a weak offer for Lind's potential.
  23. I'll miss him giving up a couple of runs, and then getting them back by driving in a couple when he comes up to bat with a double. Which I think only happened once, but I always think it's awesome to see a pitcher hit the crap out of a ball So yeah, I'll kind of miss his offense out of the 9-slot
