  2. How do results speak for themselves. The Cubs have been a good pitching team for 10 years. If what they are doing is wrong, that shouldn't be true. Well with all due respect they're not really talking about teaching young pitchers how to pitch well, they're talking about trying to teach young pitchers to increase their stamina. The number they list in the article are pretty damning in that regard, but like you said it's not really a huge important statistic considering we've gotten solid production out of our farm system in the pitching department for years. Stamina doesn't equal productivity. But it would be nice if we had some pitchers come up through the system who were not only good, but durable with high endurance as well. I kinda like the approach.
  3. I didn't mind the last one, actually liked it a bit, but this is pretty bad.
  4. That statement does not bode well for you
  5. So how bout that Ben Sheets?
  6. Geovany Soto
  7. I would imagine as a player to be traded from one team only to be traded back to that team a year later really makes you feel like crap For some strange reason though Scott Hairston seems to be really productive, power wise, playing for San Diego, which is odd. Career with San Diego = 35HR in 610AB Rest of Career = 34HR in 1046AB. Weird
  8. I bet Jack Clark watches his football with an ice cold Busch Light and a hand in his pants.
  9. The 2010 Chicago Cubs: FML
  10. For someone who pretty much does blatant caricatures of players' batting stances, it's mind numbingly annoying how much attention this guy gets for being so "accurate" with them.
  11. In fairness, how many of those $1m players are likely to become as good as Chapman currently is? How many of them would have a ceiling comparable to Chapman? which would you take...Chapman at $30M or the top 15 or so dominican signees this year (I'm guessing all those guys together would add up to around a $30M investment)? This is a huge no-brainer for me. First, you spread the injury risk. Second, in a year from now, you could very well believe that a couple of those guys could have the same ceiling as Chapman. To me, if you're going to invest that kind of coin in a single prospect, he'd better be unbelievably, unquestionably the best-est, super-est, can't miss prospect there ever was. I don't see Chapman being in that stratosphere or even remotely close to it. Also to give it some perspective Stephen Strasburg who is one of the most, if not THE most, highly touted can't miss prospect of the last decade or so signed for less than Aroldis Chapman, signing bonus included. I like Chapman but him getting paid more than Strasburg is ridiculous. Strasburg is younger than Chapman, can throw as fast if not faster than Chapman, and has shown that he has more than one great pitch. Chapman is a lefty who can throw 100mph but, from what I've read IIRC, can't spot it consistently and also doesn't have a good 2nd pitch and needs to develop one in the minors. Meanwhile Strasburg could slide right into the #1 slot in Washington's rotation this season. I like Chapman, don't get me wrong, but I'm shocked that so many teams were willing to go so high for him, and that he actually got as much as he got Totally different situations. Had Chapman been selected in the amateur draft, and had his rights controlled by one club, he wouldn't have gotten nearly as much as Strasburg. True, but it's still ridiculous

  13. Kendry Morales and Yunel Escobar are going to throw a pity party together
  14. Dusty won't be around long enough to get his hands on him
  15. Hey..................they grouped those lunatics with us good Alabama fans. That generalization just made you look and sound like an ass. Not to mention wrong. There may be those whose "cattle has left the ranch" might fit into that catergory, but most Bama fans was NOT under what just mention Logan. So again, don't make those stupid generalizations. No, I'm pretty spot on. Just because you may be the exception to the rule, the rule still states that the majority of Alabama fans think their team shits diamonds even when they suck
  16. What's bad is that Alabama fans, even before Saban when they were a crap team, have always had these uppity delusions of grandeur that they are the greatest college football team ever, and have been even when they perform like crap. Even when they were at their worst, Alabama fans were still [expletive] annoying. And now it's a thousand times worse.
  17. The vast majority of you have no [expletive] idea how annoying it is to live in Alabama right now. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
  18. There's always a midseason pickup. To paraphrase "Damn Yankees," whatever Hendry wants, Hendry gets. I thought that was Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon
  19. Steve Phillips' favorite relief pitcher, next to Bobby Howry
  20. This is the important thing. Even before Holliday, they were definitely a stars and scrubs team. Now they're committing a huge portion of their payroll to Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, and Lohse. Only for 2010 and 2011. And the team is in good position to win the division those two years. Not really an issue. In 2012 they'll probably be paying 60 million for Pujols, Holliday, Lohse, and Wainwright. 75 million if they keep Carpenter. We'll be doing the same with Soriano, Dempster, Ramirez, and Zambrano (assuming Aramis doesn't opt out). $68 million to be precise (according to Cots). Not trying to justify or make a point, just saying we're in the same boat.
  21. No one wants to put a feeler out on Wang? And yes, I intentionally worded that to make a double entendre... http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd256/gallow737/wang1.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd256/gallow737/wang2.jpg I'm feeling very childish today. Seriously though, would Chein-Ming Wang be a bad idea to inquire about? I know he was absolutely abysmal last year but could that have been an aberration?
  22. Not sure if it's been posted, but there's a website devoted entirely to geting Tim Raines elected and has loads of facts as well as comments on articles proving the writers wrong. It's hugely informative and fun to read, and makes Tim Raines not being in the hall a grave injustice, which it is. http://raines30.com/
