    Why do people get all up in arms over fans getting upset over slow starts? It's the same thing every year. Slow start, MAN THIS SUCKS, hey calm down it's early, mediocre finish. Oh wait, it's too late. Why can't Cubs fans, of all fans, get jumpy over the opening series? What's the big freaking deal? Saying this needs to stop isn't going to stop it. Because not everyone takes as much joy in being miserable as you do.

    Who cares? What matters is whether or not the team wins. And Hendry's teams have not come close to winning enough games that it would make it unfair to complain. People have been suggesting alternatives for years. The best alternative would be to stop living in 1950 and actually adopt some objective analytical methods. It must be exhausting being you. Everything you say is so negative.

    i don't feel like there's enough of a difference, if any, between them. cedeno botches more easy plays, but he has better range and a better arm. His arm is stronger, but much less accurate.

    I don't see any reason to trade him. The Cubs should do what is best for their team -- they don't really owe Murton anything. As of now, he provides great insurance in case Soriano or Fukudome get hurt. That's what he should be used for. Not a trade just to trade.

    Defensive stats are imperfect, but Theriot has usually been rated average to slightly-above average defensively. His RZR rating (if you put any stock in it) had him 5th in the NL last year. He's not great, but he's a decent fielder.

    That's not really "crap." He's just saying he likes the team's defense, and that's a good thing. This isn't like when Hendry said he wanted to find players who can "catch the ball." I don't see any reason to jump on Lou for this comment. Defense is a huge part of preventing runs. This sounds like something John Madden would say Why? Preventing runs is about defense and pitching. Lots of people overlook the "defense" part of that. Seriously? Others combine the two as part of "defense" and your statement comes out sounding like "run prevention is the key to preventing runs" or "the team who scores the most points will probably win this game." Whatever you say, man.

    The other weird thing about Cedeno, to me, is his early minor league years. If you look at his minor league numbers before 2004, he was terrible. In his time in A ball, he OPS'd 575, 564, 552 before improving to a 729 at AA. Before 2005, he was a total non-prospect. All this talk is based on about 500 at bats at Iowa, split over two seasons.

    It's not a race thing. Ronny was thrown out advancing to second base on a walk. That shows a lack of baseball I.Q. And yes, that was one example, and it shouldn't be used to entirely judge him. I used it solely for illustrative purposes. Ronny's lack of baseball intelligence has also come through in his plate approach and some other baserunning gaffes as well.

    And he has a floor that Theriot doesn't, which is just as important. No - that's complete junk. The arrogance on this board is incredible. Calling people's opinions junk, dismissing arguments with eyerolls and flip, one-sentence replies. I've been around baseball my whole life. I played baseball for four years at a Pac-10 school, and now that I've graduated, I work as a scout for that same school, going around the country and watching baseball for my job. I love what I do. We use a combination of statistical analysis and personal evaluation -- and I'm learning new things every day. I'd like to think I know a bit about baseball and, hopefully, I can bring something positive to the table when I post. But apparently, since I don't have 12,000 posts, it seems that my opinions are just dismissed as "junk." I can hardly get multiple-sentence replies to my posts. Despite a few knowledgeable guys, posting here sometimes feels like pissing in the wind. Sorry for the rant.
