  1. Pretty weak, IMO. And also reality. Right from DeRo's own mouth, right on to the field. Then he needs to toughen up.
  2. And Brian Roberts is having a terrible start too, right? Oh wait, he's not. Oh wait, either way Roberts has a job. You're actually blaming Hendry for DeRosa's bad game today? Holy cow.
  3. For a lot of players. But given Cedeno's makeup and skills, they probably aren't the best indicator for him. I addressed this a few pages ago. I would argue 500 AAA ABs in 2007 are a better indicator than 70 MLB ABs. I also addressed this a few pages ago. That's a funny way to skew the stats.
  4. Grit. Reed Johnson, meet more playing time. If he keeps producing, I have no problem with that.

  6. Decent, perhaps. The major obstacle to that at this point is that he's likely 9th in the pecking order for a starter this year, behind the current rotation and Lieber, Marshall and Gallagher. Basically, I don't see it happening this year, barring some huge transactions involving 3 of the guys above him. I say we send Marshall, Marquis, and Murton to Oakland for Harden. Billy Beane, unfortunately, says "no."
  7. Cedno's poor defense + Cedeno's good bat > Theriot's average defense + Theriot's terrible bat. If the bolded part were true, it would help your argument.
  8. .359/.422/.537 in triple A last year ignorance ](*,) Some players transition better to the Majors than others. Cedeno has all sort of problems with his swing and plate approach, and that allows major-league pitchers to exploit him more frequently. Minor league stats can be used to some degree, but not for every single hitter. Ronny is a good mistake hitter in certain zones, but major league pitchers are good enough to usually keep the ball out of those zones. Numbers are a great way to judge players (and my preferred method), but they can't be applied to same way to every single player, without exception.
  9. I don't see how that's a sure thing, and it's a strange way to rationalize a hilariously bad error. Don't hurt yourself stretching to defend Cedeno at any cost.
  10. Ronny Cedeno Dumb as a box of rocks Holes in swing Can't hit breaking balls No plate discipline Wild, erratic arm Looks like he's 12 People here love him
  11. I think it's more likely that he's sitting because Gorzo is a lefty.
  12. He will be, until your manager destroys his arm by August.
  13. http://i30.tinypic.com/11tlidk.jpg
  14. Robin Williams.
  15. Yup. Two games under .500. Time to jump. http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7495/cityhallsheratonledgehaly8.jpg
  16. Tigers are 0-4
  17. Don't forget Jim Hendry, MLB's worst GM. Yeah, that's not true.
  18. That doesn't make any sense. Wouldn't today's game show that playing good defense IS valuable?
  19. I'm beginning to doubt Soriano will even crack an .800 OPS this year. He looks awful.
  20. One of the first responses to the original post was "go to hell." If that's not a personal attack, I don't know what is. Later responses implied that the support of Theriot was based on race, and the post above this one felt the need to take a shot at the person starting this thread simply because it didn't get much support. I should be clear-I don't like Theriot, and I personally would prefer Cedeno. But my God, just because someone thinks Theriot is the best SS the team currently has (by no means a ridiculous argument), there is no reason to tell that person to go to hell. Get a little perspective. That was me. I figured such an absurd statement in regards to a nobody ballplayer would be recognized as such. Whoops. The race thing I do think in some cases is somewhat valid, and shouldn't just be dismissed offhand. Yes, something as blunt as "liking Theriot makes you a racist" said in seriousness would be ridiculous, but I find it very curious/interesting/odd that players like Theriot or Eckstein are often defended tooth and nail as "playing the game right" and as "gamers" or "gritty" whereas players like Neifi Perez or Juan Pierre are just awful or "lazy" or even "stupid." All I meant is that no one ever talks about how gritty a black or Latino guy is. Maybe Juan Pierre, but that's about all.
