  1. I also think it's misleading to say he's being "skipped." They're just pushing him back a day so Z can get a start against Milwaukee. I think it makes sense.
  2. It's just a continuation of last season. 2007 against lefties: .860 OPS 2007 against righties: .755 OPS hill 2007: very good marquis 2007: crappy Actually, Marquis was an above-average starter last year.
  3. It's just a continuation of last season. 2007 against lefties: .860 OPS 2007 against righties: .755 OPS
  4. I think he just wants to avoid the Chip Caray Syndrome of thinking every fly ball was headed for Waveland.
  5. Does Cedeno still have that strange thing going where he hits right handers better than lefties? As it stands now, maybe Ronny should start against righties and Theriot against lefties. Ryan does hit left handers pretty well (career .857 OPS against them).
  6. Matt is using a dowell rod for a bat right now.
  7. I'd like to hear the question that was asked before he said that sentence. I doubt he just decided to tell the reporters he was thinking about the Series.
  8. Which I would have done in two seconds.
  9. Agreed. It would 2010 at the earliest, for the Cubs to have a new Gm. Not agreed. There are some leaps of faith in the logic there. It's a long season and the Cubs have played the Pittsburgh AAAA's and played .500 ball against all others. They have Z and a good bullpen. The bullpen will wear down if they don't get some better starts. This is the Cubs we're talking about. It must be exhausting to be such a fatalist. They're 13-6 and just hammered the Mets. Enjoy the games and the fact the Cubs look dominant right now.
  10. I'd have been really worried if Lou started screaming obscenities when Pie hit a 3-run bomb in the 8th. Come on. You could tell they handled this differently than other Cubs homers. Everyone in the dugout, including the coaches, looked really excited about it. It was cool to watch.
  11. Felix Pie couldn't crack a .200 average, even if he were on steroids.
  12. Because most baseball players don't build mass like that, and they have access to the same trainers, facilities, diets, etc. Even if you compare Sammy to other professional athletes, his muscle growth is suspicious.
  13. 19 inch TV with poor reception and 2 cans of Fresca.
  14. Hickman had one fluke season. After his big year, he dropped back down to his career norms. Sammy's OPS jumped almost 250 points in one season, and it stayed there for a long time. That's completely unnatural for a 29 year old with more than 4,200 Major League at bats.
  15. Why does ESPN think people care so much about Joba Chamberlain? He's thrown 30 innings in the big leagues. Is it because he's fat? Is it because he's Native American? Funny name? Because he's a Yankee? I understand he's a good pitcher, but come on. This is main section of ESPN's home page right now. They're devoting an entire chat to the topic, as well as five other articles. This is absurd. http://i29.tinypic.com/15638kw.jpg
  16. Lou is not a horrible manager. Talk about hyperbole. Horrible is simply a relative term. You two are probably just looking at it different ways. Relative to the moves a manager should make, Lou is horrible. Relative to other managers, not so much. I don't know if I can handle the negativity around here much longer. I'm all for debate and dialogue, but you'd think the Cubs were 6-12 right now instead of 12-6.
  17. His progression happened much more quickly than that. You could see a significant difference over the course of a year or two. He also had acne in his 30s, which is another sign of the steroid use.
  18. Lou is not a horrible manager. Talk about hyperbole.
  19. I still am curious how long people would allow Felix to struggle while receiving regular at bats.
  20. I'm wondering how long people want Pie to play before he could rightfully be pulled from the lineup. 200 more at bats? 400 at bats? A full season? Two seasons? Giving a player a day off to rest has a clear benefit. Playing Pie in the hopes that he'll be better come August is something that doesn't have a guaranteed payoff. I totally understand the need to find at bats for Felix. But his swing looks terrible right now. It sounds like Lou is working really hard with him on the side to get it shortened up. I support giving a player at bats to figure things out approach-wise. But I don't think it helps much to give him game at bats to try and fix his mechanics. If anything, he'll revert to poor mechanics because it's comfortable and he's trying to get a hit.
  21. A "journeyman" outfielder who is on his second team?
  22. Hey, I have an idea -- let's start a bitter thread about the Cubs not playing Felix, after they score 13 runs for the second straight day. Especially when the current CF is hitting .356.
