  1. Does the bolded part concern anyone else? If you check out the video linked above, his arm action is very irregular. I think he might have arm problems down the road.
  2. ugh...That doesn't even make sense. Why would it even matter if he didn't learn how to pitch until he was 25? He was great last year. Hasn't he earned the right to have more than five starts to prove himself? Because he doesn't have the history to back up his success. If you have a guy who's been successful for 5-6 years, you have a lot more faith he can keep it up (like Sabathia). Hill was a pretty middling prospect until he turned 25. You're the one who compared him to Sabathia. I said why that was a poor comparison.
  3. Maybe I'm applying this stat the wrong way, but wasn't Rich pretty lucky last year? His BABIP was .280, and that was with him giving up a LD% of 21 percent. That seems like a low BABIP for such a high percentage of line-drives. I know his K rate helps out some, but it still seems weird to me.
  4. 18 walks in 19 innings. And the Indians didn't freak out about Sabathia because he won the Cy Young and he's been good for 1,400+ major-league innings. Hill doesn't get the same leeway, since he didn't learn how to pitch, apparently, until he was 25 years old.
  5. Look at him, just hanging on the street, being one of the crappiest crap managers in all of baseball.
  6. I thoroughly enjoyed Lou's visit to the mound tonight to see Marquis.
  7. Well, given how good Marmol is, it's not puzzling why he wants to use him every day. Doesn't excuse it though.
  8. I agree with this. Some of his old-schooly moves drive me nuts (that removal of Lee in a double-switch was inexcusable). I also don't like the hits and runs. There have been some valid points raised about Lou in the last few posts, and it's good discourse. They've definitely been more level-headed than some of the others I've seen, like "Lou is one of the five worst managers in baseball."
  9. What am I missing here?
  10. Imagine having Z and Sabathia at the post-game buffet! Throw in Ward and I'm not sure there's enough food in Chicago. Don't forget Jon Lieber.
  11. Good point. I think Lou is a fine manager, but using W-L record probably isn't the best way to prove that. I give him credit for instilling a good approach with the team, and for appearing to be a pretty good judge of talent. For all the crowing about certain players not getting enough time, Lou has done a decent job of getting the right players into prominent roles (yes, I know someone is going to bring up Marquis or Reed Johnson or whatever). Tactically, he has issues. But every major league manager has tactical issues. We just see Lou's more frequently because we watch the Cubs every day and are more invested in their success. But I've said all this before, and no one cares.
  12. Right. Like TT said above, I think the Indians will want one high-quality prospect and another 1-2 decent prospects. We don't have that type of high-level player needed. Maybe if Gallagher has another 5-7 good starts in the majors and boosts his value further, he could be used as a trade chip. Other than that, I don't see it as very feasible, unfortunately.
  13. When did Marmol fall apart late in the season? It certainly wasn't last year. Didn't he get rocked in the playoffs? I don't think that's necessarily a good argument for "Marmol's arm is going to wear down", but I think that's the reference. He gave up three runs in three innings. I'm not sure that's evidence of him wearing down, considering he had posted a 1.26 ERA in September.
  14. I wouldn't. Neither would the Indians. with an extension would you? For a 27-year-old pitcher with a career 114 ERA+ (including 143 and 140 the last two years) who seems pretty durable, I absolutely would do that deal. Having Zambrano and Sabathia as 1-2 in our rotation -- in their primes -- for the next five years would be awesome.

  16. I'm glad we have him, now that Ronny Cedeno is back to hitting like Ronny Cedeno.
  17. It's fine to criticize the Cubs, but this is way over the top.
  18. Yup. They'd want at least one more high-level player as well. And that's if they view Pie and Hill as reasonably valuable, which they may not. I think it depends on a few things. If they stay within 5 games of the division leader, they most likely aren't going to be dealing him unless somebody blows them away. If they fade significantly though, they may be looking to get whatever they can. Atthat point, there's no telling what the best offer would be. How many teams will want a rental? Sure others could beat the Cubs offer, but that doesn't mean those teams will actually make those offers. That's a fair point. The AL Central is up in the air right now, but I disagree with the people above who think Cleveland will win the division. Their offense is putrid.

  20. Watch the games! awesome. i watched today's game and saw a ball hit over his head for a double. pie probably makes that play without much difficulty. Yeah, he probably would have. If only he could hit a baseball in major league competition...we might be on to something then. Well Edmonds can't hit a baseball in major league competition either...so what does he exactly have on Pie? He looks sexier in a half-shirt? Even factoring in Edmonds' terrible numbers in San Diego, his OPS is higher this year than Felix's. And it's pretty clear that Edmonds' swing is looking better. He's not going to OPS .850, but he'll be better than Felix this year, probably by a decent margin.
  21. I'll take your word for it.
  22. Those stupid Cubs. They're so dumb, putting together the best team in baseball and winning all the time. Hendry and Lou should be fired.
