    They're only 4.5 games out. I'm not sure why people think they want to trade their best pitcher. I'm also not sure why we'd be willing to give up much of anything for a guy who has averaged 15 starts per season over the last four years. Beane was burned on the Giambi deal, and he hasn't let another player walk via FA since. If he doesn't think he can afford to resign him in the offseason, he'll be dealt, unless they're looking like strong WS contenders, and not just a borderline playoff team. Beane knows as well as anyone can win the WS once they make the playoffs. If he thinks they can get in, he's not going to trade away Harden.

    Guillen wants Carlos to miss two starts, both of which would be against...the White Sox. It's just coincidence, I'm sure (or am I...), but it's pretty ironic... Nope, that's definitely not ironic.

    Maybe they could spot start Marmol so he can get some extra work in. And then, put him in the outfield for the middle innings and bring him back to the mound to close it out ? I like the way you think.

    Even if you base it off their entire careers, Theriot has a better OPS than Cabrera. He has a huge advantage in OBP. and cabrera is a very good fielder at the most important defensive position, whereas theriot is fairly lousy. That's fine. But if I had to choose between Theriot and Cabrera over the next few seasons, I'd pick Theriot. I'm not sure I would have said that three months ago.

    this is coming from a guy that likes soccer. You know the old saying about soccer and golf. We love to play it because it is so boring to watch. Not even close to the same thing. In golf they hit a shot, walk 200 yards, then stand over the ball for 30 second, then walk around it for few more, talk to the caddy and then hit the shot. Putts are even worse because they walk around the ball for a minute looking at every single angle and slope, then take some practice swings, look at the lie a little more, take a couple more practice swings and then finally shoot the ball. And in soccer, players kick the ball around the field, and the ball is never close to the goal for 95 percent of the match. It's without a doubt the most boring sport I've ever tried to watch. WOW Did you say that because I somehow forgot to mention all the flopping and whining that soccer players do? My bad on that.

    How are you certain of that? A pitcher whose value is at rock-bottom, a fourth outfielder and ... what else? Unless the other player is a top-50 prospect, you're probably not getting CC.

    I thought the same thing. Piniella decided to give Murton another chance the day they're up against one of the toughest lefties aroud, who's on fire and nobody's ever faced. I bet he WANTS Murton to fail!

    Scot Shields seems to have done OK for himself after throwing a billion pitches as a reliever.

    Marmol will turn 26 this year. He's not 20 or 21, and he doesn't need to be protected like he's that young. I don't believe he pitched at all in his life before 2003, when he threw 62 innings at Mesa. He wasn't made a starter until 2004. His career as a pitcher is still very young. Couldn't that argument be spun the other way? Maybe he's less susceptible to injury because he doesn't have years and years of mileage on his arm.

    He seems to be getting things turned around in his last 5-6 starts. Good buy low candidate? The owner of him in my league is shopping him around.

    I'm not sure what that really means. They look like baseball players to me, at least when they wear baseball uniforms. Murton is slugging under .400 against AAA pitching. He can't play defense. He runs the bases like he's drunk. I understand that he can get on base at a decent clip, but he's nothing more than 4th OF material at this point in his career. I don't know why people are so upset he didn't get called up.

    Murton can't hit the ball out of the infield in Triple A. Why does he deserve to come up?

    Probably b/c he was playing like crap when he went on the DL before, so it was unlikely his replacement couldn't match his .577 OPS. That doesn't really make any sense, unless you're suggesting the mental impact will play a big role. What Soriano was doing at the time of his 2 injuries is irrelevant when discussing how they'll be without him. They'll be playing with the same team they played with last time he got injured, the same team they did fine with. Are you serious? A player's performance is irrelevant as to how the team will do without him? You realize that players don't perform at the exact same level throughout the season, right? Why are you so contentious every time someone even minorly disagrees with you? You act like other posters spend all their time slapping your mother.
