  1. I wasn't necessarily expecting rational thinking. More of a distraction/vent type deal. In the meantime, I've got an overhead projector to poop on.
  2. In his last at bat, that first pitch called a strike was comical. The K-Zone thing showed it to be about 14 inches outside.
  3. Because what they're doing is working so well. My annual salary is in the low $40k range. I really wish I made six figures and could afford a nicer car, and maybe buy a house sometime soon. Clearly, what I am doing has not been working. So it's time to try something new. Something wacky. Today, in my afternoon meeting, I am going to punch my boss in the throat and take a dump on the overhead projector. I will then hurtle my body down a flight of stairs while singing the chorus to "Shiny, Happy People" by REM. Once I hit the bottom, I will spring up and shout "TA DA!" and spread my arms wide in triumph. Maybe then my fortunes will turn.
  4. Because I don't want to think about 2008 anymore.
  5. My God, is there a lot of self pity in this thread. Have some pride, people.
  6. I certainly hope that doesn't happen. It would be humiliating for him and the Cubs. I have the utmost hope that he's able to work hard in the offseason and come back strong next year. I'm not saying he wasn't a detriment to the team offensively this season, just that I would hate to see something that started so promising end so poorly and abruptly. I don't really care if it's been humiliating for him. He tries hard, I'm sure, but he's not very good. I don't want the Cubs to have a $48 million 4th outfielder.
  7. I think there's a decent chance Fukudome goes back to Japan, if he has the option to do so. I'm sure this year has been humiliating for him, and I'm sure Lou doesn't want him in the team's plans for next year. And rightfully so.
  8. And then they'll go to another thread and say, "OK, it's been 170 years. Now is the time!"
  9. Berkman is just mad that the camera caught him wetting his pants and scurrying to the dugout because of the thunder.
  10. Yeah, I didn't get that. Not sure I've seen the "pre-emptive lock" used before.
  11. Why can't people just enjoy the song? What's the rush to be the first person to post a pointless, cynical comment? Good Christ.
  12. I can't believe this thread is still hanging around.
  13. And with each person who quotes, we get diminishing returns on humor.
  14. You think? Yes.
  15. I don't understand how someone can come up with something like this out of complete thin air. You're basing this on his numbers?? I mean, you make it sound like you've just sat down and had a heart to heart and a beer with the guy. If you really knew Fukudome, you'd know he doesn't even like beer.
  16. I think Fontenot might actually be a better option at this point. He won't sustain his .900+ OPS, but I think he has just enough pop to hit at a ~.780 level. That's better than Fukudome at this point. The defensive downgrade might make it a wash, but it's sure frustrating to see Fukudome continue to slide.
  17. Stop rooting for Gallagher to fail.
  18. If only that happened more frequently.
  19. OPS+ is a weird way to measure a lineup, since it's comparative measure based on position. If the Cubs were playing eight catchers today and Soto hit eighth, yes, that'd be weird. And overall, it's really not weird. His OPS is below .750 in the last two months or so.
  20. Nah. He's not. When it comes to how to manage a bullpen, yes he is. That's not what he said though.
  21. MORE LIKE HEAD SPASMS.
  22. Didn't Murton just need a chance to play and he'd be all right?
  23. The Cubs still wouldn't have a shot, even if they started with Soto and Vitters.
