  1. Hey, does anyone have a scan yet?
  2. A low-contact center fielder with no plate discipline?
  3. I don't think the Cubs' flame-out in October should be used to criticize a decision that was made in April. That's a weird way to look at things. Pie was completely overmatched at the beginning of the year. He could barely make contact with the baseball; even a mediocre breaking ball was an adventure for him. Once Lou saw that -- whether it was in 40 at bats or 400 -- he needed to pull the plug. I think you're failing to draw a distinction between giving a player a chance to who looks like he could contribute, and just giving a guy a chance regardless of how he looked. Pie didn't show anything in the majors last year that indicated he should be given more at bats. I've said it before: Lou has his faults, but judging talent isn't one of them. He does a pretty good job of slotting in the right guys to play.
  4. How was it dumb to platoon two decent players for a full season and get great production from the CF slot? If anything, using a platoon like that to such great effect was pretty atypical for the Cubs. Well they gave up on Pie before anybody knew they'd get freakish production from Edmonds Or, it was obvious that Pie wasn't going to be able to contribute offensively in 2008, so they looked elsewhere for production.

  6. That's what she said. they never say that. To some, they do.
  7. You're wrong. Gordon is putting up the same amount of shots per game as he did two years ago (his best NBA season) in three more minutes per game. He's also hitting them at 45 percent, same as two years ago. He's also averaging about the same amount of assists. He's not doing anything different this season. The numbers are almost identical.
  8. They were saying in one of the mock drafts we had a shot at him right? I think he'll end up somewhere around that 15-20 range, so he could be there for our taking if Angelo/Lovie want him. The only thing that scares me is he might not be big enough to be the big receiver we need and like Bennett will get benched all season Maybe if Earl Bennett was faster than John Tait, he would have gotten on the field.

I haven't been following.
  10. How would he contribute to the emotion or feeling of the formation?
  11. He is even smaller than Bush so like you said he's in that category, but not as good Bush was listed at 6-0, 200 when he came out of USC. Pervin is 5-11, 195 -- not a huge difference. I also think Pervin is a lot stronger than Bush. Really? I feel like Bush would easily out muscle him Not that bench press necessarily translates to the field, but Harvin benches 405 pounds.

  13. that mock's about a month old, but Mayhew's telegraphing that he wants to take Bradford #1 (and Garrett as HC to develop him) Still feel Bradford wouldn't drop after tonight? Not looking so spectacular against an actual defense. Bradford should really stick around after tonight. Even if OU won, he still should have stayed another year. I remember seeing from Football Outsiders that one of the best predictors of a QB's success in the NFL is the number of snaps he plays in college. Bradford hasn't been around that long, and I think the success rate for QBs coming out at that stage is pretty low.
  14. Baldelli is a fine speculative move, but he hasn't played a full season in four years and he's really only been great for one year. I don't think the Cubs are missing out on anything obvious.
  15. 2004 Barry Bonds: 232 walks 2008 Kansas City Royals: 392 walks
  16. really? yeah man...dero is the man he made a lot of big plays for the cubs, and brought with him a tremendous attitude... he was definitely a key factor in the thrill ride of the past two seasons He's also a baseball player you've never met before, so it seems weird to nearly cry while watching video footage of him. Weirder than you caring what gets an emotional response from a man from a message board whom you've never met? Yes.

  18. You can defend him in this thread by saying he hasn't actually signed Aurilia and it's just Dave Kaplan talking.
  19. I hate the Red Sox just as much as the Yankees.
