  1. Pitching plus offense and defense and baserunning.
  2. Well, no, it wouldn't literally kill them. But it could have pretty adverse effects if they spend another five years toiling in mediocrity while Bowden pretends to be a head coach.
  3. Maybe Notre Dame can hire Bobby Bowden.
  4. The guy is 80 freaking years old. What if his own accord means coaching until he's 97 years old, blind and in a wheelchair? Should they let him do that because they owe it to him? Eventually, a program needs to do what is best for itself.
  5. Bears win 31-17.
  6. It's about 290 pounds, from the looks of it.
  7. Defense is the same. Offense is significantly worse.
  8. Feh. If he can keep his ERA under 3.50 (his ceiling), the contract won't be a total disaster. Still, he's not that likely to do that.
  9. He was as inaccurate as I've ever seen him. He wasn't stepping into anything and backed away on nearly every throw he made. I'm sure he's become conditioned to not having time to set his feet and throw, so he's started fading away because he's anticipating pressure.
  10. McNabb has usually had at least one guy who's a decent receiver. Andy Reid is also a pretty good playcaller for a quarterback. But very good receivers. And good receivers. All of the guys you mentioned have SOMETHING they can use to their advantage. The Bears are a trifecta of suck: bad receivers, bad playcalling, bad protection.
  11. I love message board trade offers.
  12. I THINK PEDRO WILL BE LOOKING FOR JOHN LACKEY MONEY$$$
  13. This is the worst basis for anything ever.
  14. There's a part of me that's hoping for another crappy offseason, followed by a 71-win season, followed by Ricketts firing everyone and starting over with some actual baseball minds. I know that's messed up, but I can't help it. Screw baseball minds. The Cubs organization has been littered with baseball minds, including several former GMs and other well respected baseball people. Baseball people are really stupid. They need smart people. I didn't mean old boys baseball minds like Dusty Baker. I meant smart baseball minds.

  16. Yeah, Grabow is a fine guy to have in the bullpen, but yikes. It's not even that the money is crippling (though these kinds of contracts add up), it's the principle of signing a barely above average reliever for millions when there are minor leaguers as likely to be good for 10 percent of the cost. I'm sure Jim's in job-saving mode though, so he won't trust that.
  17. How so? Greinke was better than him at everything, except willing his team to score more runs on days he pitched.
  18. You live near Oklahoma City. and? I don't have a point. I just think OKC sucks.
  19. You live near Oklahoma City.
  20. Someone would have jumped offsides and the Pats would have gotten the first without running a play. Check that. The Bears would have been down 35 points at that juncture, so it's moot.
  21. All I know about Marlon Byrd is that the Cubs offered Murton for him a while back and the Rangers said no.
  22. He's got 14 TDs and 17 INTs. He's not blameless.
  23. I don't think that criticizing Cutler means you're a meatball idiot. There can be a middle ground between "Nothing is his fault" and "He's just like Rex Grossman."
  24. He's not that much better. And Gordon is a lot better on offense.
