  1. I don't think it's stupid. Briggs is a great OLB, and probably less great as a MLB. There's no reason to weaken two positions while trying to fill one hole. Leave Briggs in a position he knows and try to fill MLB as well as possible.
  2. Wow. Ride that fear machine. They said, "we're not doctors" Not to ride the fear machine, but dislocated wrists often need surgery and months of recovery. If it's a severe dislocation, Urlacher could miss most of the season.
  3. If you exclude your second post, you would have posted that comment only once.
  4. I'm sure it's defense-related. We all know Jake is a pretty terrible outfielder, and Lou likes to go with defense at times. Not that UZR is everything, and the sample sizes are small, but Fox has a -27 UZR in left field. Even still, the Cubs should be playing him every day at this point so they can audition his bat for a trade to an AL team. There's no reason for him to ride the bench.
  5. I'm honestly not sure what a fair return is for a shortstop who averaged a 5.5 WAR in his age 23-25 seasons and is still just 26. I was just suggesting that Lilly and Theriot is not fair value for that kind of player.
  6. Too bad a deal with the Brewers isnt likely because I think that Theriot and either Marshall or Gorzalanny for JJ Hardy would be a good deal for both sides. Making that deal would have us chasing the Cards and the Brewers. Someone in the transaction section suggested Lilly and Theriot for Reyes. That would be a good deal for both sides. How is that a good deal for the Mets?
  7. Way to procreate, Derrek!
  8. I didn't say it would be a good contract. Just that I wouldn't be all that surprised if someone paid it, especially if the Cardinals make a run in the postseason.
  9. 5/80 would actually be a pretty reasonable deal for someone like Holliday. He's on the back-end of his prime, but there's a good chance that he'd outproduce that contract. In November, you'll see a story floated out there from Boras that Holliday is looking for a 10-year/$180 million deal. That'll just be a classic Boras play, but I wouldn't be too shocked if the actual contract ended up something like 7/$135.
  10. He's had to have that 1.000ish OPS just to make up for his awful defense. He's barely an above-average player because his defense is so terrible. He's slightly more passable at first base, but he would have strictly played in the outfield for the Cubs. Since his defense has declined even further from his already-terrible levels, this probably isn't a career year for him. He needs to DH somewhere to actually be a truly valuable player.
  11. How would you explain Billy Beane's overall success then? http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/e0/26/f580eb6709a0f3e8180c2110.L.jpg So Billy Beane wrote a book. Big deal.
  12. Yeah, I think this move is dumb, but we shouldn't pretend that Soto is faultless this year. Liking a player doesn't mean you can't be disappointed when they show up for the season completely out of shape and not ready to play.
  13. Is it wrong that I'm excited about Brett Jackson?
  14. Maybe it was my own fatalism, but I just assumed that Hendry would stay on board because of the relative success of the team in the past few years. But I suppose it makes sense that if a guy spends close to $1 billion on a baseball team, he might want to bring in his choice of people to run it. I don't dislike Hendry as much as a lot of people around here, but I'll obviously take any sort of upgrade.
  15. I assume he'd be bringing in one of the more experienced higher-ups in the front office, if this is even true. Who do we think that might be? Ben Cherington? Jed Hoyer? BILL JAMES?!? (not really)
  16. Trade Lee, move Aramis to 1B, try to get Alex Gordon from the Royals, trade for JJ Hardy, move Theriot to second. Yeah. I don't really like it either.
  17. Convince Soriano to retire.
  18. Why is that guy so happy at seeing that? Because he took a breaking ball to the nuts. That's funny in any file format.
  19. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/deadspin/2009/08/beerthrower2_01.jpg
  20. Why are people acting like this is the first time this has ever happened?
  21. I'm 110% on board with this. Man that'd be awesome. I would definitely be a fan of that. Eventually, eryone would end up hating Valentine as much as any other manager.
  22. I predict Jim Hendry and Lou Piniella.
  23. Jimenez has to be first, right? He's a beast.
