  1. Shaq as a secondary option is just as bad as Salmons. He turns the ball over at an incredible rate at this point in his career, he bogs down the entire lane and refuses to move (Hollinger believes he set an unofficial record last season for 3-second violations) and his perception of his own value has not appropriately declined along with his skillset. Pairing a 380-pound, 37-year-old center with bad knees who shows no motivation to improve his conditioning with a young, fast-break point guard makes zero sense. Zero. Even with the allure of his expiring deal, I still wouldn't do it.
  2. Has Gordon been re-signed? There's a good chance he's gone, and there's certainly no guarantee that a scoring big man will be brought in. That would leave Salmons as the second option behind Rose (if this proposed Deng trade goes through).
  3. I'll agree that Salmons has a very friendly contract, but I think it's unrealistic to expect him to be as good next season as he was this year. And even at his best, I think his defense is overrated and I don't think he fits the offense all that well either. He sucks up a lot of time going one-on-one and taking bad shots. I'm fine having him on the team because he's cost-effective, but I don't think he should be a top option on a good team.
  4. You don't like Deng's injury history, but you want Shaq? Also, Luol Deng was better when he was 21 years old than John Salmons was this year, in his career year.
  5. I don't think it would be "suddenly." He's been a stud, as recently as 2007. And he just turned 24 years old. There's plenty of reason to pause when thinking about the trade.
  6. There's no source on that deal. No way it's real. Rumorpress has never been right about anything ever.
  7. I might be wrong, but I think Aramis is signed through 2011, and the Cubs hold an option on him for 2012. If that's the case, Vitters should be in the minors for at least another three years. And that'd be totally OK...he'll only be 23 on Opening Day 2013. No need at all to rush him.
  8. Well, today's start might have been his worst yet. I would think he has to be injured. There's regression and then there's complete and total collapse.
  9. Yes; John's the one who died. Unfortunately.
  10. Has to be Longoria. The age difference between him and Pujols gives him the edge. And like someone said above, it's probably more than the listed five years. Pitching-wise, I guess I'd go with Lincecum.
  11. Bobby Scales can do absolutely anything he wants to, so probably.
  12. Alex Brown is getting the worst tail of anyone though. http://assets.chicagobears.com/uploads/photo/thumbs/3977.jpg
  13. Holy cow. I hadn't even looked at it yet. 9 walks in 4 innings. Awful.
  14. How dare you talk about Michael Gaines like that.
  15. Rashied Davis disagrees.
  16. Personally, I'd prefer the Cubs win 125 games in the regular season and go 11-0 in the playoffs to win the whole thing.
  17. Castro for Utley. That was easy.
  18. Plus, the guy has already made $12 million in salary in his life (according to BR). That doesn't include any other endorsement/engagement deals he's done. If he's been smart, he shouldn't have to do anything for the rest of his life.
  19. How many quarterbacks have. Had good seasons at age 40?
  20. Memphis didn't want Deng and Thomas. They wanted cap room, which the Bulls couldn't offer.
  21. Except you can't really dump salary in the NBA like in baseball. The Bulls would need to get back matching salaries if they traded Hinrich.
  22. I bet none of those happen. Why trade Kirk? He is one of the best reserve guards in the league. Agreed. He's a little overpaid, but what's done is done. If you re-sign Gordon and trade Hinrich, your only players 1-3 are Rose, Gordon, Salmons, Deng. Four guys at three positions isn't going to work.
  23. Thanks to that Cardinals fan, I can finally unveil my T-shirt design, which I've been holding onto for the past 18 months. http://i41.tinypic.com/1zbscn5.gif I'll wear it to Wrigley later this week. /Deadspin humor
