  1. this. I missed this earlier. Believe me, I wish the name thing wasn't an issue. Bleacher Nation started just a few months after Bleacher Report - and long before anyone had ever heard of Bleacher Report, or before it had become the nightmarish pile of dreck that it has become. Had I ever known of "The Report" before I started my site, I would have chosen another name. As it was, it was a solid two years of "Bleacher Nation" before I even became aware of "The Report." By then, BN had become a thing, and I wasn't really interested in changing the thing because one of the words in the name was the same as one of the words in the name of another site. At that point, I put my faith in peoples' ability to read more than one word. 50% of the time a Bleacher Nation post is linked on a random message board, one of the first three responses is "never listen to anything you read on Bleacher Report," or some such thing. My faith in peoples' ability, it seems, is sometimes overstated. "Why should I change when he's the one who sucks?"
  2. Reading this article from September, it almost sounds like Lozano knew that something like this was coming.
  3. Someone should get them extra exposure by writing a book about the franchise and later turning it into a major motion picture starring a famous actor, like Brad Pitt.
  4. Hopefully willing to move him for a lot. Who said that?
  5. I don't think anyone has a clue about it unless they have access to the financials.
  6. I'm still holding out hope for Fielder or Pujols but apparently Wilson is a pretty good hitter, so...
  7. Yes, because he was bad at his job, often focused on the wrong "areas of need", and was more than happy to pay up to get his man. To his credit, there weren't very many trades he made that came back to haunt the Cubs.
  8. Ace should really, really consider re-naming his blog.
  9. I'm sure Theo will be really impressed if he shows up here and reads the last few pages of this thread.
  10. I think even if they didn't have to push it up much, it'll still hamstring them.
  11. Right. But it still has to be a factor.
  12. I think that pretty much sums up Randy Wells' appeal at this point.
  13. Can this become the catch-all thread for discussing potential trades for our players? It'd be nice to be spared a bunch of "[Player Name]?" thread titles this offseason.
  14. At least half of this thread is people posting about having erections, so it may not be the best case for being better than SoSH.
  15. That causes grain? A cell phone camera in low light? Yes, that causes grain.
  16. Yay, an outfielder. That's exactly where our top priority should be. It's Phil Rogers saying he "could" become their priority "if" the homework checks out. Calm down.
  17. I remain pleased with myself that I even know what decade it is anymore.
  18. I don't think that's really true. In 2012, Pujols was 27th in baseball in WAR among hitters. He was 17th in wOBA. How did the Cubs do? 62 wins.
  19. I don't think that's really true. In 2011, Pujols was 27th in baseball in WAR among hitters. He was 17th in wOBA. He's a very, very good baseball player. But he turns 32 in January. The Cubs shouldn't pay him based on what he did for the Cardinals, only what he's going to do for the next 6-8 years. I guess it all depends on if you think Pujols can bounce back to produce a few more seasons with a 1.000-and-beyond OPS. Given the way he's trended and his age, I'm not so sure. I see Alex Rodriguez's numbers since turning 32 and worry about a similar decline from Pujols.
  20. I realize you're exaggerating, but his WAR and OPS+ has dipped four straight years since turning 28. It's still at a very high level, but age is absolutely affecting him to some degree.
  21. Are you kidding? The video featured him roasting a hog over an open fire. How would taking that type of stuff out make it more entertaining?
  22. Some pitchers just routinely outperform their xFIP. Matt Cain does every year. Jurrjens may be one of those guys. The only year he hasn't done better than his pitching-independent numbers was an injury year. At some point, things become a trend. He may not be 2.98 ERA good, but he's still pretty damn good.
