Yeah, if you don't think the Bulls can beat the Knicks, you shouldn't even think about them beating the Celtics, Heat or Lakers.

What is the obvious reason? That it supports your argument? I don't know why it makes sense to remove a significant chunk of Pippen's value when comparing him to another player. I mean, if you take away rebounding, Kevin Love isn't that much better than Brook Lopez!

I think that's because if a catcher sucks at hitting, people automatically assume he's good defensively. -
I really like Deng, but they're still pretty far off. The scoring and scoring efficiency is about the same (17.8 ppg on 14.1 shots for Pippen, 17.7 ppg on 14.4 shots for Deng), but everything else is off. Pippen outrebounded Deng (7.3 to 5.5), out-assisted him (6.2 to 2.8), out-stole him (2.4 to 1.0) and out-blocked him (1.1 to 0.6). Deng turns it over a bit less, but he doesn't handle the ball nearly as much as Pippen did. And those are just counting stats. Lu is a really good defender, but I don't think anyone should compare him to Pippen defensively. Really, I don't think too many players in NBA history should be compared to Pippen defensively.

Glad I wasn't the only one to realize this. He's shooting only 69% from the line in that stretch as well. They're barely running any plays through him, so most of his points are coming off broken plays or garbage buckets. I have no idea why they aren't giving him more touches.

I know it's not exactly logical thinking, but I'm hoping ticket sales tank this year and it forces Ricketts to spend during the offseason to put a good team together. Like I said, I know that's not totally how it works, but I'm feeling vindictive.

Garrrrrrrrrrr Forman was just on the Score and basically said the same thing. He didn't come right out and say the Bulls weren't winning a title this year, but said something about wanting to 'hit a home run, rather than a single or double.' I took that to mean they weren't going to sacrifice the future for a marginal upgrade this season, which makes sense. Like you said, Lee or Mayo would have been more of a Bogans related catharsis than a big upgrade toward a title.

Also, there's a rumor that the Mayo-Pacers deal is off because they didn't get paperwork in before the deadline. Which would be hilarious.

I don't know why people are getting so worked up over not getting Courtney Lee (who's been traded like 11 times in 4 years) or OJ Mayo (who was benched for Tony Allen in Memphis). Useful players, yeah. But neither was going to catapult the Bulls into championship territory this season.

Except that Asik isn't a stiff. He's athletic and can run the floor really well, and he's a good on-ball defender. He's an outstanding rebounder, too. He's not ever going to be an All-Star, but it's very difficult to find 7-footers with some skills. I'm guessing the Bulls didn't make a move because they don't feel they have a realistic shot at a title this year and would rather hold assets for the next few years. Hard to argue with them.

Given what happened to the Bulls after 1998, it's not a terrible idea to go after as many titles as possible, as long the team's playing at a reasonably high level.
