  1. I don't know if Denver was ever looking to trade both Nene and Carmelo. And it's arguable that the trade would have made the Bulls any better. Offensively, sure. But it would have really hurt defensively and on the boards. Signing Joe Johnson to a max deal would have killed any title hopes the Bulls had in the next five years. The guy is already starting to slip and it'll only get worse from here. Also, for everyone talking about the Bulls not having a second elite player, people should at least consider the possibility that Noah is an elite player. The only centers I'd take over him are Howard and Horford, and Horford is arguably more of a power forward. Someone doesn't have to score over 20 ppg to be elite and Noah affects the game in enough other ways to be considered an elite player. I guess it depends where you draw your own arbitrary definition of 'elite.'
  2. No one is saying he's a crappy player. Just disputing the commonly cited idea that he's a top 10 player.
  3. He's not. He's a volume scorer who shoots 45% and doesn't really supplement it with 3 pointers or great FT shooting. That means he ranks 40th in the NBA in points per shot, directly behind Wesley Matthews. Guys like Durant and Nowitzki are much more efficient scorers (9th and 15th in PPS), which means they aren't using up as many possessions to score their points. Carmelo is still a really good player, but his only real strength is scoring and that aspect of his game is overrated because he's not very efficient at it.
  4. How is New Jersey going to contend? With Deron Williams and a center who can't grab more than 6 boards a game?
  5. Absolutely right. He's not even close.
  6. The front office has seemed quietly competent ever since Forman (allegedly) took control from Paxson. Lots of smaller, smart moves like this one.
  7. "I could totally write for GQ, I just don't WANT to."
  8. I don't think he's much better than Bogans. No reason to give up anything of value for SG depth.
  9. And the team that signs him should want him to play defense. Making him the DH takes away a decent chunk of his value.
  10. I'm at the point where if Pujols helps the Cubs win a WS at any point during the first few years of a 10-year contract, I don't care about the rest of it.
  11. If I needed a football coach, I'd go with Marty. But if I needed a basketball coach, I'd definitely pick Sloan.
  12. I'd like to see Brian Scalabrine take on Chris Paul in the skills competition.
  13. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. A) Bulls fans say Denver would be stupid to hold onto Melo and lose him for nothing B) Bulls fans do not want to give up Noah for Melo C) Melo gets traded to Knicks for a mediocre return that we could have bettered without trading Noah Result: Bulls fans shouldn't get upset? What package do the Bulls have that could better what the Knicks are offering? What is NY's offer again?
  14. Thibs would still start Bogans, so I really don't want to give up a promising young big for a backup SG.
  15. So, they have the internet on computers now?
  16. Hey, all that matters is winning. If they won the Super Bowl, he must have been good, even if those pesky little stats disagreed. Right....? How did Roethlisberger's stats this year disagree with the idea of him being good?
  17. They would be the same as any other team that loses an elite quarterback. I'm not sure what that's supposed to prove.
  18. In the past, the Bears have seemed pretty serious about resting on their past accomplishments.
  19. Another short fast guy? Not really.
  20. At this point, it seems like the Cardinals are screwed either way. They're paying Holliday $17 million per year through 2016 (his age 36 season), so if you add another $26+ million per year for Pujols, that's half their payroll spent on two players in their 30's*. And their farm system is anywhere from mediocre to bad, so they won't have many good options to fill spots cheaply. But if they don't sign him, he leaves and they become the Astros. * Side note: Pujols and Holliday were (allegedly) born one day apart.
  21. His defense has actually been steadily improving the past 5-6 years (last playoffs notwithstanding, where he was just awful). When he tries, he can approach passable on defense. Problem is, he still looks mostly disinterested on that end. While blocked shots aren't everything, a guy who is 6-9 and spends his time around the basket should block more than 0.4 shots per game just by accident. Fortunately the Bulls might be the perfect team to hide his deficiencies.
  22. Well, that's hilarious.
  23. I'd rather have his sister.
