  1. I think the city of Chicago needs a champion, regardless of who it is
  2. Tommorow's headline: Entire bench get 3 year deals, raises. Neifi Perez named opening day starter at SS, leadoff
  3. Walter Young: http://www.jnevitt.com/Images/Walter-Young-first-hit.jpg looks like a tall Mo Vaughn
  4. i'll getback to you. in the meantime, hold your breath
  5. Well, I'm biased towards PSU, so I included it. It's only Penn State's 2nd road game, and it is ripe for a "let down" after the emotional high of the Ohio State victory.
  6. The marquee matchups: (1) USC @ (9) Notre Dame (2) Texas @ (24) Colorado (11) Florida @ (10) LSU (8) Penn State @ Michigan (16) Michigan State @ (15) Ohio State (23) Wisconsin @ (22) Minnesota LA Lafayette @ Arkansas St. (jk)
  7. Did anyone see Lou Holtz on ESPN right after the PSU game? I swear he didn't watch a second of the game. He was talking about how Paterno was running his traditional offense and so forth. The other analyst just looked at him and basically said "are you smoking crack old man?" I hate analysts. I'm really happy that Lee Corso (and his stupid buckeye head) were wrong...AGAIN.
  8. As per ESPN: Bartolo Colon: 5-11, 250 lbs. Carsten Charles Sabathia: 6-7, 290 lbs. Carlos Zambrano: 6-5, 255 lbs. Jerome Williams: 6-3, 246 lbs. David Wells: 6-3, 248 lbs. Freddy Garcia: 6-4, 250 lbs. Bobby Jenks: 6-3, 270 lbs. Ray King: 6-1, 242 lbs. Ryan Bukvich: 6-2, 250 lbs. Livan Hernandez: 6-2, 245 lbs. Prince Fielder: 6-0, 260 lbs. (just like poppa) Walter Young (BAL): 6-5, 322 lb.
  9. Hendry must be pissed that his plan to pay 1/2 of Rothschild's salary in Detroit fell through  But seriously, I don't see any changes at all. Unless attendance drops, the Trib Co. doesn't give a rat's butt who the GM/Manager/Staff are. They probably don't even know who is on the team these days.
  10. Steinbrenner threatens to blow it all up every year, but never does. If not winning the WS is the criteria for firing all the front office and coches, we would have seen 4 different managers in 4 years. It's all hot air. That said, Torre should get out while the gettin' is good.
  11. Not racist at all. Call it a sports experiment. I would feel much better if I had gotten Nash and Nowitski though :x
  12. Mission Accomplished: G-Kirk Hinrich G-Manu Ginobli G-Bobby Sura G-Brent Barry G-Luke Ridnour F-Peja Stojakovic F-Troy Murphy F-Kyle Korver F-Mike Miller F-Mike Duleavy, Jr. F-Hedo Turkoglu C-Andrew Bogut C-Chris Mihm Oh yeah, we're getting crushed
  13. I hear the grandson of former Ft. Wayne, IN mayor Harry Baals is an up and coming star.
  14. I have the master plan tonight. We'll see how it pans out.
  15. I don't know if I'd use that guy as the template for all Sox fans. I heard he was banned from both WSI and SoxTalk because even they couldn't stand him. I didn't know they let that guy use a computer from jail
  16. I'm rooting for a Sox vs. Astros series. You'll either have a team who hasn't won since 1918, or a team who hasn't won ever. All differences with those clubs aside, at least a good baseball story will come of it (instead of, say, Yankees with their 24242th title)
  17. Can the Big Unit stick it to Colon? Or do they need Koch? Dick Pole reporting...
  18. REMINDER: Draft tonight at 9pm eastern, 8pm central
  19. I believe the original intent of the rule was to prevent pitchers from blatantly deceiving baserunners. However, it's gone far beyond that. Like you mentioned, there are little things that really cause no harm but are called as balks, such as moving the ball from your glove to your pitching hand while on the rubber. Hell, I believe that if you get blown off the mound by a strong gust of wind while in the set position, you will be called for a balk, even though everyone knows there was no intent to deceive the runner. Or dropping the ball while on the rubber. I remember that happened to Wood a few times because when he looks in for the sign, he spins the ball around in his hand behind him. How is dropping the baseball deceiving the base runners (in that situation)?
  20. I can honestly say that I had never heard of Dontrelle Willis until he hit the scene in Florida. I don't even remember the name at the time of the trade, and I had no idea who he was (compared to other names in the farm system who were closer to the majors)
  21. I hate balks. I mean, yes, you should have a rule where the pitcher can't "fake out" the batter or base runners, but then why is that a tiny little flinch gets called a balk, but a fake pickoff throw, or the infamous "third to first double fake" is legal? Isn't that trying to fake out base runners? Is the little flinch more distracting?
  22. Wow, they are actually showing this game here in PA. Then again, PIT is on monday night...
  23. I think this is a year that Hendry can't afford to sit back and wait for the dust to settle before making a move. He needs to agressively pursue the players he wants and get them signed early. I'll be severly disappointed if we leave the winter meetings without a significant signing or trade
  24. C'mon UCLA! If Cal loses, that will make 3 top 10 teams losing (with OSU and Tennessee), meaning Penn State could crack the top 10 this week!
  25. I have to go to work at 3am, and I'm not going anywhere NEAR downtown State College tonight. Last night there were about 20 horse mounted police for crowd control......the night BEFORE the game! In 55 degree weather with pouring rain! Tonight it's going to be mayhem! My sister just called. She's still in the stadium. Evidently a lot of the student section ended up on the field, but they're not going after the goalposts, just partying it up. I usually drive down Beaver Ave. to get to work (I live off of W. College, I deliver for the CDT, which is out by the mall) but the cops will be lucky to keep the kids off the streets tonight. I don't want to miss work because I'm stuck in a sea of drunken sophomores. EDIT: OSU and PSU combined for fewer points and fewer yards than Wisconsin, who lost to Northwestern. This game had 27 points and around 450 yards combined, the NU/WISC game had 99 points and 1000+ yards. Crazy.
