  1. HOLY CRAP! NOMAR DIDN'T SWING AT THE FIRST PITCH!
  2. Rule #1 of Macias: Don't get him wet Rule #2 of Macias: Don't feed him after midnight Rule #3 of Macias: He doesn't like bright lights.
  3. Joe Morgan just told me that the #5 spot in the order is a good RBI position. Me feel unstupid now.
  4. I was hoping not to have to break out my latest photoshop so early, but: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/gremlin.jpg
  5. Would they have run on Burnitz's arm if he was in CF tonight? Me thinks not.
  6. Miller: "I think they invented OB% because of you Joe"
  7. He he he. Typical ESPN "female eye candy" sideline reporter.
  8. Here is the question of the day: Which one is the evil Zambrano, and which is the good?
  9. I know how that is. I rely on people to donate money to run my website too (though I don't support nearly this much bandwidth)
  10. My educated guess would be that you don't have any "local interests" so you are given "the best game" between 2 first place teams. That's correct. Someone decided that Fox should have the exculsive baseball game on Saturday, so they broadcast the game they feel will be most popular in that region. Since there aren't so many local fans in PA of the Cubs or Mets, they broadcast the "better game"- Atl and St Louis. The whole idea that exclusives are so important is just dumb, imo. In NYC, I used to get the Giants and the Jets every Sunday. Never mind that there is a superbowl rematch on the other channel- I get infomercials instead. Rather than watch a game that I have no interest in, I just don't watch. Just like in baseball. I have no desire to watch the Yanks play a regular season game. But someone who thinks of these policies just decided that we'll all watch a game we have no interest in, just because its the only game on. Dumb. I couldn't agree more. A Yankees vs. Red Sox game of the week would have been big news 25 years ago when the Saturday game of the week was the only baseball you were going to see. But in our current climate of sattelite tv, internet, etc., why forcefeed us a game we don't want? ps. When does FOX's contract expire with MLB?
  11. Baker won't extend his contract here. I think he wants out, but he's too proud to quit, and Hendry won't eat the money by firing him. Can we start the "Joe Girardi for manager in '07 BandWGN" yet?
  12. Nomar said they haven't bought a home in the Chicago area  I would only take Nomar back for another 1-year deal, this time for 1/2 as much. If we signed him for $8 million to prove he was healthy and he missed 1/2 the season, I would say "you weren't healthy, you weren't worth the investment, so now you have to take a pay cut. We like you, but we have to cut our losses." The if he regains All Star level, you sign him to an extension.
  13. Lee clearly played way above his head, and it shows now since Ramirez is about to surpass him in run production numbers. Neifi also overachieved for the most part. Barrett is #1 in the majors (I think) in RBI at the catcher spot. Prior and Wood got hurt, and have been hot/cold when healthy. Maddux is showing his age, and Zambrano has pitched some 8 inning, 0 ER games and gotten 0 or 1 run of support. He should have 12 wins by now easily. Williams has been as good as one could expect. The bullpen has been about what you'd expect considering their level of experience. Hawkins was a disaster and was traded. Wuertz has been overworked, Novoa has done what you expect from an unheralded rookie, and Dempster has exceeded my expectations. I really like Williamson, and want to see more from him. For next year, I would like to see some positional battles in spring training. Pie should be given a chance to compete at CF, but should not be put on the bench if he doesn't blow people away. Cedeno and Murton should have shots at winning every day jobs as well. I would like to see Aardsma in September this year with a shot at the pen also. Unfortunately, a big hole will be OF, which is pretty weak in this year's free agent market. Some creative trades might be necessary.
  14. I'm not doubting what you're saying but wasn't this the common conception last off season too? Perhaps, though it might have been that Chicago had the best offer on the table and that other teams wanted to be able to track his health issues before comitting.
  15. My educated guess would be that you don't have any "local interests" so you are given "the best game" between 2 first place teams. But shouldn't you give the best "local interest" game? Granted, neither the Phillies nor the Pirates were slated for FOX, but Baltimore was and the Mets were. Grrrr. Not that I minded missing a lousy called game in a Cub loss, but still, it's frustrating. Good thing I'm not a huge Bears fan, as I'll get nothing but Eagles and Steelers this winter.
  16. Nomar will be playing in LA next year, for either the Dodgers or Angels. I'd almost be willing to put money on it.
  17. I just got home, and was amused by the box score for this game. Macias/Perez/Blanco accounted for all the hits? HA HA HA HA HA! That's just sad.
  18. What governs the decision making as to who gets what game? I live in State College, PA. I am 236 miles from New York City. And yet today I get the Atlanta vs. St. Louis game. I live 771 miles from St. Louis, and 765 miles from Atlanta. WTF?
  19. I think Bud Selig is behind this. It smacks of his half-assed solution track record. NCAA's Message: Name your team anything you want so long as it's not during a nationally televised game where we're making truckloads of cash from corporate sponsors who don't give two craps about amateur athletics.
  20. I'm predicting a Cub win based solely on the idiots at FOX who have decided that Central Pennsylvania would rather watch the Braves and Cardinals than the Mets and Cubs. I mean, it's not like St. Louis or Atlanta are 3 times fartheer away than New York, right?
  21. /start threadjack I wonder if Selig was instrumental in implementing this "no Indian mascots in the NCAA postseason" policy. Sounds like the kind of half-assed, not really solving the problem policy that Selig is famous for. "Indian names are fine unless it's a nationally broadcast Bowl Game that a corporate sponsor has raped of all it's integrity" /end threadjack
  22. That's not even an opinion. It's a fact. He said he didn't take steroids, while under oath, before the US Congress, then tested positive. He'll be lucky not to have perjury charges thrown at him (though it would be tough to prove that he was taking steroids at the exact time of the hearings)
  23. I doubt that's the case: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050805&content_id=1159003&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Well that's Dusty's death warrant. The old "Vote of Confidence" is always a bad sign for a manager.
