  1. What governs the decision making as to who gets what game? I live in State College, PA. I am 236 miles from New York City. And yet today I get the Atlanta vs. St. Louis game. I live 771 miles from St. Louis, and 765 miles from Atlanta. WTF?
  2. I think Bud Selig is behind this. It smacks of his half-assed solution track record. NCAA's Message: Name your team anything you want so long as it's not during a nationally televised game where we're making truckloads of cash from corporate sponsors who don't give two craps about amateur athletics.
  3. I'm predicting a Cub win based solely on the idiots at FOX who have decided that Central Pennsylvania would rather watch the Braves and Cardinals than the Mets and Cubs. I mean, it's not like St. Louis or Atlanta are 3 times fartheer away than New York, right?
  4. /start threadjack I wonder if Selig was instrumental in implementing this "no Indian mascots in the NCAA postseason" policy. Sounds like the kind of half-assed, not really solving the problem policy that Selig is famous for. "Indian names are fine unless it's a nationally broadcast Bowl Game that a corporate sponsor has raped of all it's integrity" /end threadjack
  5. That's not even an opinion. It's a fact. He said he didn't take steroids, while under oath, before the US Congress, then tested positive. He'll be lucky not to have perjury charges thrown at him (though it would be tough to prove that he was taking steroids at the exact time of the hearings)
  6. I doubt that's the case: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050805&content_id=1159003&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Well that's Dusty's death warrant. The old "Vote of Confidence" is always a bad sign for a manager.
  7. So all i'm missing but not being Premium is some different Emoticons?
  8. Ron is the least of my concerns this year...
  9. 3 game losing streak means only 5 to 7 more losses in a row before Dusty is toast.
  10. The way it used to be - just the guys living there, grilling up who knows what to go with their 1pm beers. That was the way it was in '92 when I moved to Chicago. The "for profit" full stadium seating thing didn't happen until around '98
  11. Well he supposedly wants something like that, but the conversation usually goes something like this: SELIG: I demand a stronger line of punishment for positive steroid testing! FEHR: Shut up maggot! SELIG: I'm sorry, sir. Please don't hit me again.
  12. They're here! What did they do for you last night? Wood and Williamson held down a game that was already lost, true, but Nomar picked right up swinging at the first pitch and grounding weakly to the middle infield.
  13. Bud Selig is a coward. He won't use any muscle against the union, who has yet to give any logical reason why they won't submit to a stricter testing/punishment policy. He never makes statements publicly, instead resorting to faxing his statements to new agencies. Selig is a used car salesman. It is beyond me how he has managed to retain his position as long as he has. What the league needs is a commissioner who is neither a former player nor a former owner. You need a truly impartial arbiter for this league.
  14. Hindsight is always 20/20, and it's easy to rail on trades many years later. Yes, the Cubs traded Jon Garland (a 1st round pick) for Matt Karchner. Garland was a .500 pitcher or worse for 6 years before his breakout season. Still a bad trade, though I think had Garland stayed, he would have been traded already because the club would have been impatient with him (like Cruz, etc.) Also traded that year, Todd Noel (a 1st round pick) for Felix Heredia. Noel disappeared after not panning out. How quickly we forget that one. I don't claim to follow the minor leagues too closely, but I have to say that I had no idea who Dontrelle Willis was until his rookie season. I thought getting Alf and Clement for some prospects was a steal at the time.
  15. Correct. They basically took the choice away from the players back when Boggs (I think?) wanted to go in as a D-Ray? They need to take the caps off the players and just list the teams they played for. Free Agency has made the whole "player represented one team" thing out of the picture (with the notable exceptions of guys like Ripken, Biggio, Jeter, Gwynn)
  16. Leave the deadline where it is. The NHL deadline, for example, is like a day before the playoffs (okay, a little earlier, but might as well be...) That's dumb. On the contrary, it feels like the NFL deadline is like Week 5 or 6? Early.
  17. Hey, hey! Leave it to the expert: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/moran.jpg Redneck Cardinal Fan doesn't like his thunder to be stolen!
  18. I don't think WIlliams or Hill have done anything to remove them from the rotation. You'd like to see longer outings, but neither has gotten shelled yet. Rusch doesn't excite me.
  19. Macias could have totally caught it. It was all of a foot or two above the fence line. He didn't even jump.

  21. You speak English very goodly.  me fail english? that's unpossible!
  22. can Murton play 1B? If so, i really would wish Dusty would give DLee the day off because thats the only way IMO that were going to see Murton play unless hes a PH :x You'd be more likely to see Walker at 1B, Macias at 2B and Hollandsworthless in LF
  23. I thought the Phillies' new stadium was pitcher friendly. Am I wrong? You are. It's almost as homer-friendly as Great American or Coors
