  1. I agree in so much as that 3 years of "competitiveness" but failure has been harder than losing 95 and not ever really having any hope. Yeah. That, and the simultaneous success of our biggest rivals. And the complacency when it comes to doing anything about it. A pretty soft $100 million payroll matched with record attendance numbers means no urgency to improve. God how I wish Mark Cuban would buy this team.
  2. So back in March/April, it was announced that my town (State College, PA) would be getting a minor league team. Awesome, right? Brand new stadium less than 3 miles from my house, probably cheap season tickets....I was thrilled. They then announced that the team would be in A Ball, in short season NY-Penn League. Good enough. 30+ home games. No Cubs affiilate in the league, but that's okay. They didn't announce affiliation right away. Many assumed it would be Pittsburgh because the owners of the new team were the group that owns the Altoona Curve (AA Pittsburgh).. So yesterday, they finally announce the affiilation. ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. They are moving the New Jersey Cardinals to State College. Well crap! Can I really get excited about a Cardinal A Ball team? Or should I just suck it up and enjoy it since it's so far removed from the major league level?
  3. The Cubs wouldn't stand a chance against Wells....his control is too good. It will be interesting to see how the WSox approach him.
  4. See my post in the latest Sox game thread - really, after a Sox title, what else could happen? That would complete my list of Cub calamities. The Cubs have been rotten for a long time, but I think the last three years have been especially difficult. I agree in so much as that 3 years of "competitiveness" but failure has been harder than losing 95 and not ever really having any hope.
  5. Ruhle will be back w/Cincy. After Tom House (he ain't going anywhere), I'd interview Wayne Rosenthal or Bryan Price. But, if Kranitz is the only one interviewed, I'll be disappointed for the reasoning that extends to not looking at all the avail. options. If the Cubs are high on Kranitz at this stage, that wouldn't change if they interviewed other options. Kranitz was the leading candidate after Acosta resigned, they went with Marty instead. Couldn't you argue that Kranitz is responsible for not developing Mitre, Welly, Leicester, Koronka, etc. to their fullest abilities?
  6. I think the main problem is that many of you are friends with Sox fans. You need to start at the source of your problem and work from there...
  7. this thread title needs a '?' added to it
  8. If I was the Phillies GM, I would say: Patterson- Huge Bust Williams- yet to be consistent Rusch- one good season (and not under contract) Koronka- terrible Welly- a project Mitre- Jeremi Gonzalez Jr. Nolasco - years away So why would i want to give up my all star for any of this?
  9. two lefty pitchers facing lineups with righthanded power. Another slugfest?
  10. For all the hating by the media on the White Sox, I really don't see the Red Sox pitching doing so hot recently. We'll see how Chicago fares in Fenway however...
  11. I lived in Chicago for 13 years before moving here 6 months ago. I just find that hating on other teams is more of a Sox fan thing to do...
  12. my last post was about the game...
  13. Responding? Who addressed you in the first place? I think my anger over this situation was well expressed. Either you're lying or you're just dense. Forget I said anything. I can't figure out why you're so mad. Maybe I'm a dense liar. You know best.
  14. Here come the BoSox. Count on the White Sox to figure out how to lose.
  15. which was both funny and accurate btw.
  16. The tailagting at Beaver Stadium is awesome. I can vouch for LSU's as well. LSU does have the advantage, however, of playing almost all of their home games at night. Longer tailgate party almost always equals better tailgate party. We never did much tailgating growing up, as we lived less than a mile from Beaver Stadium and would just walk to the games.
  17. In other news, why does your avatar look like a cropped photo of Kyle McLachlan getting "pleasured"? Completely unprovoked, posted for no reason other than to antagonize in a heated situation. Feel free to do what you like, just don't blame me for "starting" stuff. Sorry, didn't know you were in a "heated" state of mind. Those two quotes are totally unrelated. The first was responding to people who were trying to paint a 99 win Sox team as a fraud. The second was an unrelated and competely tangential joke based on your new avatar. It wasn't meant to provoke you in any way. I just think it's a funny looking avatar.
  18. Perhaps. And perhaps the 3 million+ attendance every year will forever act as a roadblock to proactive management, but if the Cubs have no one to share in their misery.... Plus, all the stupid "curse talk" holds less weight than ever. No more Curse of the Bambino, no more Curse of the Black Sox.

  20. Funny? I won't draw out this tiff. You're the one who called names. I was just making a joke. Relax bro. You're the one trolling a game thread. If you must root for those bastards, the least you could do is take it to SoxTalk or WSI. I'm sorry, I was unaware that one was only allowed to root for one team in a non-Cub game thread. Can you point me to that rule?

  22. In other news, why does your avatar look like a cropped photo of Kyle McLachlan getting "pleasured"? I got shot, [expletive]. I'm sorry to hear that Kyle. You were good in Twin Peaks though.
  23. yes. complacency has to end. and i don't consider the Sox our rivals. The Cardinals are our rivals.
  24. Before you start throwing things at me, hear me out... Prior to 2004, the lament of all Cubs fans over the near century long drought in World Series Titles was always met with "well, the Red Sox and White Sox haven't won forever either." The Red Sox took care of that last year. We should cheer for the White Sox to do it this year. Then, going into 2006, the Cubs will stand alone in their extended period of suckiness. There will be no more excuses, no more rationalizing. Their biggest competitor in their own market will be parading in the streets having snapped their own 90 year skid. No team pre-expansion will be without a Trophy since the Cubs last won. So, to make sure that the embarassment is solely on the Cubs' shoulders, I say go White Sox! /ducks
