  1. nameless uniforms are horrible, second only to the blue jerseys.
  2. The most pitiful thing about this situation is that when the rosters expand, Murton will return and not see any starts in September if the Cubs are within 5 of the Wild Card. Hairston will play when Lawton/Burnitz are on the bench because "he's been there before." It's been said time and again, if you don't remove the veteran crutches from Dusty he will continue to limp on with them. It'll be a real test as to the direction of the organization this Winter. Hollandsworth, Hairston, Perez, and Macias are all free agents. Will the resign one or more of these guys or replenish the roster with young players from inside or outside the system ? As long as Dusty has any say, he'll want his "boys" back with him.
  3. I'll start posting these in the daily game threads: NL Wild Card Standings (Start of Day, 8/20) HOU --- FLA 0.5 PHI 0.5 WSH 1.0 NYM 2.5 CHC 5.0 MIL 5.5 Best case scenario today: CHC defeats COL MIL defeats HOU LAD defeats FLA NYM defeats WSH PIT defeats PHI
  4. HOU up 5-1 now in the 8th
  5. If HOU wins: Houston --- Florida 0.5 Philadelphia 0.5 Washington 1.0 NY Mets 2.5 Chicago Cubs 4.5 Milwaukee 5.0 If MIL wins: Florida --- Philadelphia --- Houston 0.5 Washington 0.5 NY Mets 1.5 Chicago Cubs 4.5 Milwaukee 4.5 I think that's right...
  6. Too bad about the Florida score, but we need to root for a Brewers sweep this weekend. I know we're tied with them, and some would argue a split would be better, but I think that a Milwaukee sweep will serve to pull the pack closer together. We'll deal with the Crew later...
  7. I can't WAIT to see what Novoa and Wuertz do in this ballpark. Well, we'll probably find out in the 5th inning or so....
  8. Prior missed the squeeze sign before that play... Corey was almost home. The Cubs missed 2 opportunities to score the same run. Corey was also nearly standing on the third base bag when Prior hit his grounder, meaning Patterson had the full 90 feet to run. He did slide way too early, maybe because the bat was lying in the base path and the catcher was blocking the plate with his leg. Either way, another leadoff runner who is wasted away. GRRRR.
  9. I can see why Patterson doesn't like bunting
  10. These Rockies announcers have some serious man-love for Prior.
  11. Shhh, making fun of Raisin is much better. He's right, you know, Derwood. Are you sure? I swear that everyone saw it but the umpires and that Kim or the catcher or someone grabbed it up before he got booted. I wouldn't know where to go and look for a box score that far back...
  12. Last night's loss moved Roger's ERA up to 1.53, FYI.
  13. Kim did indeed have a white piece of cloth up his sleeve that came flying out when he made a pitch, but I'm positive that Kim didn't get ejected for it.
  14. I think Darren Baker picks the uniforms each day (right before he fills out the lineup card)
  15. You are wrong, and your father smells of elderberries.
  16. Andro isn't "the juice". I voted Palmeiro because he actually had a positive test result, while McGwire only ever admitted to using a dietary supplement, not anabolic steroids.
  17. This new show "Starved" on FX is frigging hilarious. Oh man, you have to watch it. New episodes are Thursdays at 10pmEastern
  18. Uh oh, tricky delivery struggling pitcher on the mound. Cubs get 4 hits and get shut out 7-0
  19. Well, unfortunately they let the pitcher each day decide the uniforms, and Zambrano and Rusch always go blue. Maddux always goes traditional. I think Prior goes white at home and blue on the road? I can't even picture Zambrano in a white or grey uniform. Sad. The Blue jerseys are fugly because they look like spring training or warm up jerseys. They are always baggy and look untailored. Plus the logo is dumb, and they wear them WAYYYYY too often.
  20. Home-White Road-Grey Blue-Incinerator
  21. But none of the other bolded ones were Cubs. And Willis and Garland would have to bolded, too. No, the bolded ones were "WTF" guys. Or guys who, while good, shouldn't have more wins than Z or Maddux (in a perfect world)
  22. Easy. You root for a Cubs sweep and a split in every other series.
  23. "How can I do that, Dude? Dempster has saved us man!"
  24. But better than losing a game or 3 in standings as well, too. at this point in the season, gaining one game every other week or so may as well be losing three. but i agree...they're playing better of late. I think they have to sweep Colorado next though. They can't just win series anymore.............they have to go on a roll. The weekend series for Wildcard teams: CHC @ COL (3 games) WSH @ PHI (Doubleheader Thursday) WSH @ NYM (3 games) PIT @ NYM (1 game) PIT @ PHI (3 games) MIL @ HOU (4 games) LAD @ FLA (3 games) Looks like the Cubs and Phillies have the easiest go at it. You would root hard for Milwaukee if the Cubs weren't neck and neck with them.
