  1. I liked baseball a lot when I was in elementary school, especially when I lived in Racine in '81 and '82 (Robin Yount's Brewers went to the WS) I fell out of it while I grew up in State College, mostly because College Football is the big thing here and my friends all hated baseball I moved to Chicago in '92 for college, and at that time, Cubs games were a fairly cheap form of entertainment, and tickets were plentiful day-of-game. Plus, I started playin in sim leagues with fellow dorm-dwellers, which really gets you into stats and players. i've been a fan ever since
  2. quick, find me 3 other "backup" infielders making $2.5 mil/year And Dusty will insure this "backup" gets 500 plate appearances
  3. I see that the systematic rebuilding of a 79 win team has taken another step forward
  4. The kid next year is Anthony Morelli, a highly touted recruit who had verbally comitted to Pitt but then came to PSU instead. Paterno stupidly wasted a year on him by bringing him into a meaningless game last year, so he'll be a Junior in 2006. Still, that's 2 years with him and the freshman receiving corps (Williams, Butler, King). He's much more of a drop back, pocket passer. Robinson is a poor man's Vince Young/Marcus Vick, while Morelli is much more of a Peyton Manning style passer (and if he's 5% as good as Manning, we'll be in good shape)
  5. Those were two crappy teams that played that day. I never would have believed that we'd likely finish with a Big Ten record above .500 and Penn State would be talking BCS. Had PSU lost that game (to NU) they probably would've finished 7-4 or 6-5. I really believe that
  6. God forbid PSU play Miami. I hate Miami, and it's a great game in concept, but I think the Lions would get "Hokied" in the Orange Bowl
  7. Yes, and PSU is #3 overall by the computers, ahead of Bama and Miami
  8. no kidding! Wow, Miami is .0009 behind Alabama right now
  9. I think when the new standings come out today, you'll see Miami at #3
  10. Not important to the ACC title, but both teams are fighting for bowl eligibility
  11. Don't forget CC Sabathia http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6603.jpg I'll add: Antonio Alfonseca Kyle Farnsworth Anthony Young Mike Piazza Raul Mondesi Juan Gonzalez Jose Lima Derek Bell
  12. because my team really sucks. i have 3 rookies that NEVER play Holy crap I won! Captain Kirk is saving my butt
  13. If Northwestern could pull off the upset of OSU, Penn State would clinch the Fiesta Bowl without even playing
  14. Well, we're getting down to the nitty gritty (did I just say that?) EDIT: Rankings changed from AP to BCS BIG GAMES ------------- (7) LSU @ (3) Alabama (20 Auburn @ (9) Georgia Northwestern @ ( 8 ) Ohio State Boise St. @ (22) Fresno St. OTHER GOOD TOP 25 GAMES ---------------------------------- (1) USC @ California Kansas @ (2) Texas (13) Florida @ S. Carolina Iowa @ (16) Wisconsin ( 18 ) Colorado @ Iowa St. Rutgers @ (25) Louisville (23) Georgia Tech @ Virginia TOP 25 MISMATCHES ------------------------ (4) Miami @ Wake Forest Navy @ (11) Notre Dame (10) Oregon @ Washington St. (12) Texas Tech @ Oklahoma St. Arizona St. @ (15) UCLA (19) Florida St. @ Clemson UNLV @ (17) TCU Indiana @ (21) Michigan OTHER IMPORTANT CONFERENCE GAMES ------------------------------------------------ NC State @ Boston College Maryland @ North Carolina Baylor @ Missouri Texas A&M @ Oklahoma Kansas St. @ Nebraska Michigan St. @ Minnesota (24) Stanford @ Oregon St. I'll edit the Rankings when the BCS comes out later today.
  15. Oregon is too low right now. I didn't list every one-loss team (I left off Texas Tech as well as a few others)
  16. Agreed. I think Bama will lose one of it's next 3 games, but USC and Texas look too damn good right now
  17. I think Alabama will lose to either LSU or Auburn (or both), leaving just 2 unbeatens. If either USC and/or Texas get upset, we'll have at least on 1-loss team in the Rose Bowl. So, which team is most deserving to go (at this point)?
  18. Hone$tly...you're confu$ed? This a thing that really bugged me. ESPN gave the final scores for all the top 25 teams and then the rest. The only time they put up stats was for ND and Quinn. When did you see that? I saw stats for Vince Young, Brad Smith, and a few others on College Gameday Final. Yeah, that's not true. They DID run Calhoun's miserable day for WISC as the stat for the PSU/WISC game instead of Robinson's great day (lame)
  19. If PSU plays ND in the Fiesta, that would be fun. I think it would be a very good game. Plus it's a warmup for playing in the regular season next year!
  20. I don't hate ND for not being in a conference. I just question their BCS bowl credentials. I was a PSU fan for years during their "independent" years. They had great schedules with Miami, Texas, Alabama, ND, USC, etc. all in the same year. But I'm very satisfied with their choice to join the Big 10. ND is just greedy. They don't want to split bowl or TV revenue. They can hide behind "preserving their rivalries" all they want, but how awesome would this schedule be? : BC STAN USC TENN PSU IOWA MICH MSU PUR OSU NU MINN play a 12 game schedule, keep USC, maybe rotate ou Stanford, Tennessee and BC for BYU, PITT or Army each year. Then you have no controversy about whether the Irish deserve to go to BCS games or not
  21. You can't blame ND for their schedule. They did not shy away from teams. This year it turned out that they did not have a schedule as tough as everyone thought. Not their fault. It not like they schedule weak opponents like C Florida, Cinncinatti, C Michigan or many other weak non-conference games many top 10 teams play. Their schedule has the potential to be just as tough as any BCS conference team. Penn State did have some weak non-conference teams. But to say that those three are any weaker than Army, Navy or Syracuse isn't fair. And no, it isn't ND's fault that their opponents ended up being crappy. But it should certainly count against them in the computer rankings. A second (or even third) place SEC or PAC-10 team will have played more ranked opponents than ND.
  22. Look at it this way: through 2 games we are 1 ahead of last years pace! we will be through three too. All we needed was one rebound too. Oh well its early. The rebounding is horrible right now. How many offensive rebounds have they given up already in 2 games?
  23. Oh, and my "Caucasian Sensations" are tied with dArejectsLOL right now. How the hell?
  24. My lord. 3 pages and no strong Neifi Perez/Jose Macias contingency? I'm ashamed of you all!
