  1. Yeah, Hendry said he'd be available tonight. I'd actually like to see him one last time before he's shut down. one question...why? Because he's been exciting out of the bullpen. yes he is, but it just seems very stupid to me why a guy would pitch not even 2 days before he has surgery. He better not be out there for the 9th... Oh, he will be.
  2. ONLY the Cubs could possibly have this logic: "Our $12 million pitcher needs arthroscopic surgery to clean out his shoulder, and we've deemed it necessary to shut him down for the year in order to get it fixed for next year, but let's just squeeze one more inning out of him before he packs his bags."
  3. Yeah.... but are you sure ?? Ha. Well if nothing else it would show how pathetic the team OBP is.
  4. Wouldn't it more fun to hit 9 solo homers, just the same ? No, because hitting 7 and losing would truly prove that hitting a lot of long balls isn't necessarily the key to winning baseball (as the Reds and Rangers can also attest)
  5. Since there is little good to come from this season, I am now rooting for individual players and unsual box scores. My dream tonight is to lose 8-7 while hitting 7 solo homers.
  6. How does that happen? A Derrek Lee homer? Nope. Umpires spot the Cubs 2 runs to start the game, but Macias runs the base paths backwards for a -1 run scoring inside the park homer

  8. Me too. And it's one of the few spots on the web that actually makes me laugh out loud. Sometimes to the point of crying. Kid Tremendous is my hero. It's Ken Tremendous. And yes, he's hilarious. Yes, well, you got my point.

  10. I spot started one game and I believe they won, which would make me 1-0 EDIT: Wrong. Hudson went the distance in a CG win over Zambrano, 4-2. My memory ain't what it orta be
  11. I don't get that, with out even looking anything up I know at least Will Ohman uses 45, when I first read that I got the impression that 45 was univerally retired... That would be because Robinson's # was actually 42, and I mistyped  Fixed in original post.
  12. A great snippet from Friday's chat (and Kid Tremendous' response) Chris, Chicago: Do you believe the Cubs are pretty much finished this season, now with Nomar and Ramirez hurt? Should they just call up Felix Pie, Matt Murton, Ronny Cedeno and Rich Hill now? Joe Morgan: It's hard in this day and age to throw in the towel and start working toward next season. I don't know if they should do that and I don't think they can. KT: This is what just went through Joe Morgan's head: "Felix Who? Matt Huh? Ronny Which? Rich Whatnow? Uh oh. Better fire off some crazytalk."
  13. there is zero pressure to perform in TB. Much easier to go out and pitch when there are 50 people in the stands and no one expects anything of you
  14. Only if he hires Tonya Harding to smack Neifi in the knee with a tire iron. Cedeno is never getting 5+ starts a week on this team. Ever.

  16. Shouldn't be a ball if the elbow is in the strike zone though.
  17. Not to be overly picky here.... but the CUBS (Colts, Orphans, White Stockings) are in their 130th season in the National League, but they've only had player numbers on their uniforms for 75 years now. That being said, look how many retired numbers they have compared to the Cardinals, Dodgers, etc. Granted, teams like the Yankees have had far more legendary players, but only 4 retired by the Cubs? Have they lacked superstardom that much in all their years?
  18. Dodgers are starting D.J. Who Now? NL Wildcard Standings as of 8/29: CHC and CIN are tied. This is all you need to know.
  19. It's a shame that it's taken so long for Biggio's elbow to heal. I mean, that's why he's wearing the plate mail on his arm, right? Maybe Biggio, Kendall and Bonds all go to the same lousy elbow doctor
  20. It will be interesting. The Cubs are probably the stingiest team with retiring numbers. I mean, 120 years and just 4 retired numbers? Three of which were from the same era? One of which isn't Fergie Jenkins? I agree that there are points given for continued involvement with the team. I mean, if Santo wasn't a radio announcer all this time, do you really think he'd be up there? Frankly, I don't think he would be up there now if it wasn't for his health. I believe the Cubs would have waited until/if he was inducted into the HoF before retiring his jersey if they thought he'd live 40 more years.
  21. Doesn't matter. I think Lee could win the triple crown and still not win the MVP
  22. Good. We need just one game without any complaining. They score too much
  23. You know what's pitiful? EVERY TEAM above us lost Saturday except Florida. And Maddux pitched a complete game. Always finding new ways to make my head hurt ](*,)
  24. BTW: Lawton batted 8th and played RF today. He had a hit, a walk, a strikeout and a run scored. Isn't that about what he did for the Cubs over the past 3 1/2 weeks?
