  1. Agreed. All these night games are annoying. I'm sure they're great for all the 9 to 5'ers out there, but for me, they cut into quality primetime TV watching time. Actually, this "9-5'er" would rather have a day game as well. I can listen via internet while working, but when they are night games (unless west coast that don't start until 9), it is tough to find 3 hours every night to just sit and watch the game. Of course, for us "east coasters", nothing is worse than a 7:35 PDT start in LA or ARZ. That's 10:35 here, meaning the game isn't over till 1:30 am or so.

  3. I never said that Overbay was a better fielder. I just said on the whole that Overbay+A-Rod is better than Lee+Nomar/Neifi/Cedeno/whoever I missed your attempt to return A-Rod to SS. I thought you were talking about getting rid of the corners all together. Just for the record, Overbay and ARod is not better than Lee and Ramirez. Well, while we're at it, let's get Cabrera, A. Jones, and Guerrero in here (if we're going to get ARod).  Baker would still F that lineup up.
  4. I'll go you one better. Perez at short Macias at third Patterson in center Hairston in left Don't forget Blanco catching Prior. Which would give you a lineup that looks roughly like this: 1. Hairston LF 2. Walker 2B 3. Lee 1B 4. Burnitz RF 5. Perez SS 6. Patterson CF 7. Macias 3B 8. Blanco C 9. Prior P A lineup that Prior should be batting 5th in. Would that be the worst lineup the team could possibly field? I suppose if Holla was still here, he could play first
  5. I'll go out on a limb and say that this wasn't their song prior to 1983
  6. Good thing JVB is up. Now Todd Wellemeyer has someone to hang out with in the bullpen
  7. btw, I fully expect Todd Hollandsworth to go on a "Carlos Beltran-esque" hitting frenzy through September and October.
  8. All this means is more Hairston in LF (or Macias). I don't count on Murton getting any more PT because of this. Baker would stick Nomar out in LF 4 days a week if it meant keeping veterans in the lineup.
  9. I have abandoned the daily Wildcard standings I was going to start the standings for "Worst record in the baseball", but sadly, the Cubs are way back in that race too. CUBS=Definition of mediocre
  10. And it's a one pitch save! How is 5th place feeling their Cubbies?
  11. A player can't be promoted back for 10 days since his demotion, and Matt hadn't finished his 10 days when McClain was promoted. Also, theoretically, Scott can play 3B. Matt will be back when rosters expand. i fully understand the 10 day rule. i am questioning the foresight of management. Garciaparra is playing third, so i fail to see your point... besides, there's always Macias... :-k
  12. I love that our Game Threads are down to 11 pages a game. The lack of caring is at an all time high (or is that low?)
  13. this just in : Williamson Sox, but who cares? why is McLane/ McLain on this damn team? why is he taking AB's away from Murton? because it's not Sep. 1st? personally at a loss... Well, Murton is getting 3+ AB's per game in AAA while McClain has gotten 1 AB since his callup, so technically, the promotion has taken AB's away from McClain, not Murton
  14. Hey CUBS: "Welcome to 5th Place, Population: You"
  15. This just in: Williamson is officially not the Bullpen Messiah that everyone was hoping for.
  16. Wait, Wood isn't out there? Maybe Hendry jumped on the Bat Phone to the dugout and cut that idea short
  17. Yeah, Hendry said he'd be available tonight. I'd actually like to see him one last time before he's shut down. one question...why? Because he's been exciting out of the bullpen. yes he is, but it just seems very stupid to me why a guy would pitch not even 2 days before he has surgery. He better not be out there for the 9th... Oh, he will be.
  18. ONLY the Cubs could possibly have this logic: "Our $12 million pitcher needs arthroscopic surgery to clean out his shoulder, and we've deemed it necessary to shut him down for the year in order to get it fixed for next year, but let's just squeeze one more inning out of him before he packs his bags."
  19. Yeah.... but are you sure ?? Ha. Well if nothing else it would show how pathetic the team OBP is.
  20. Wouldn't it more fun to hit 9 solo homers, just the same ? No, because hitting 7 and losing would truly prove that hitting a lot of long balls isn't necessarily the key to winning baseball (as the Reds and Rangers can also attest)
  21. Since there is little good to come from this season, I am now rooting for individual players and unsual box scores. My dream tonight is to lose 8-7 while hitting 7 solo homers.
