    My hate of the Deadbirds pre-dates my being a fan of the Cubs. When I was 7 years old I was a huge Brewers fan (lived in Racine) and the Crew made it to the WS where they got beat by the Smith/McGee lead, blue uniform wearing, astro-turf playing Cardinals. I have hated them ever since.

    Depending on what Washington does, the East could have FOUR teams at or below .500 in the playoffs. There ought to be a law!

    Someone remind Rusch that when his offense scores 6 runs for him, a win is generally expected.

    I have to give the Cubs and even (gulp) Dusty a lot of credit for a very exciting first week of baseball. There were many positives, including: - Murton and Cedeno started every game - Neifi started just once (in a platoon against a lefty) - Neifi was not the di facto first guy off the bench in pinch hitting situations - The Cubs drew a lot of walks (17) for a team OBP of .366 - The team has shown power from many positions. - Dusty has done very little tinkering with the lineup, and when he has (Neifi in at 2nd, Barrett moved up to 5th) the results have been positive. - Bullpen ERA is 1.45 - Team already has 6 pinch hits in 5 games including 2 HR. There are certainly some bad points (giving up too many walks, Rusch's start, etc.) but I want to stay positive. Great games so far and I hope it keeps up.

    I actually had to come down to the computer just to congratulate the homeplate umpire on the worst strike three call in history. As Steve Stone said the other day, "How is it that the home plate umpire can track the path of the pitch AND see a check swing?"

    then something on your spreadsheet isn't working right. I'm not sure where I'm at starting Sunday now with Fielder getting one last night. I'll re-add and see what I come up with

    Ponson is the epitome of suck. But he's a Cardinal, which means he'll be 16-7 with a 3.45 ERA this year. Here's hoping Marshall keeps A-Jols hitless for the series.

    it really is an indictment of the Eastern Conference that 2 maybe 3 teams will make the playoffs with a losing record. That's just pathetic.

    Interesting turn of events to be sure. I was on the "miss the playoffs" bandwagon because I felt an early defeat to Detroit wouldn't be useful, but if they can miss both Detroit and Miami, well then we're talking
