  1. Curious to see if anything else happens today (Nady, Fontenot, Fukudome etc). Seems like most of trade candidates the Cubs have left could easily slip waivers and go into August though.
  2. He'd obviously upgrade over Theriot. Looking over his numbers he didnhave some good years before his final stinker of a year in Atlanta. Guess it all depends if Theriot is invoked in the Lilly deal or not.
  3. I'm use a bit skeptical about his true value and ability outside Arizona. For Theriot? Sure, but his HR number will give him a probably unwarranted salary boost.
  4. Apparently Lilly would mind though. IIRC the Twins are on his NTC list. Yeah, I know. I always wonder though if they change their minds over time. A lot can change, the Twins are in the race and play in a new park. That might matter, then again it might not.
  5. Chill. What are your expectations from Zambrano going forward though the end of his deal?
  6. Gammons thinks Lilly will stay. Said the Cubs would ideally like to trade him and possibly look to resign him. Doesn't think they are getting what he is worth, and if they don't, will not trade him.
  7. I guess I'm just more down on Zambrano than most, and due mainly to his production, not the other issues. I don't think a potential trade of Zambrano would really hurt the Cubs all that much on the field. The Cubs are in a hole with his contract whether they keep him or not.
  8. Making it all that much dumber to be actively selling him, at a low. I'm not arguing that point, I agree. I just don't think is at all surprising to anyone.
  9. Do you really think it was a secret around MLB that the Cubs would like to trade him if possible? Like I said, its is far from an ideal situation, but I don't think a Twitter post blew the secret that Cubs might want to move him. It's not the twitter post that informed the league, it's the Cubs informing the league that led to the twitter post. This team can't keep going into offseasons intent on trading away assets. It's horrible business. I don't think the Cubs had to tell the league. Looking at his production, salary, and other issues tells teams all they need to know that Cubs would probably like to move him if possible.

  11. Is trading Zambrano that big of deal? The situation is not ideal, the Cubs will be paying quite a bit or have to take back a contract just as ugly. I'd assume the issues would be more to do with that and not because of any production lost from Z. I guess there is always hope that he can get back to what he used to be and everything will be fine. Are there realistic hopes that he can be close to what he once was?
  12. With guys like Wells there are always going to be some doubt and question marks. I think it is fair to see that he has average stuff. There will be days when he gets knocked around when not hitting his spots. Despite that, he's cheap and has done well as a back end guy. I think Wells becomes much more valuable as that back end guy with a few "better stuff" guys in front of him.
  13. Interesting article on baseball academies in the Dominican. The Cubs complex is not painted in the best light. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2004099,00.html
  14. What do you think the market for Fukudome is? This was just posted by Olney: Is there any hope to get a decent player back or do you think the Cubs are just looking to dump the salary. What is his value?
  15. Mark Riggins on the minor league side. Riggins is great. He's had multiple chances to be a major league pitching coach (he was with the Cardinals for a short time) but prefers to work with minor leaguers. I'm biased because I know him, but he is very good at what he does.
  16. He's out due to the thumb... http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5353885
  17. I doubt there is much to this. The Cubs really don't have room for another OF as it is. The part about the Cubs then wanting to trade Byrd doesn't seem to make a lot of sense either.
  18. Castro has been taking a few walks lately. Although I think this last one was more of Cueto being careful and working around him in order to get to Wells.
  19. Pretty hilarious how hard it is for the Cubs to score a run right now.
  20. It's still a pointlessly shortsighted decision. Fukudome did indeed look like total crap in limited playing time over June, but Colvin's June numbers also look pretty bad (though granted, yes, not as bad). This team is a bust; yes, Colvin getting more time isn't a bad thing, but ideally they need to move Fukudome by the deadline. He's been working with his old hitting catch for a while now, and that certainly had a huge positive effect last summer. Fukudome needs to be starting against every RH pitcher between now and the deadline in the hope that he has another July surge like he did last year to make him more appealing to teams shopping. I hear ya, but I think it is unlikely that they will be able to move Fukudome. Who contending team would want him and be willing to give up anything for him? Whoever is interested in acquiring would almost certainly want the Cubs to pick up a huge salary chunk anyway.
  21. Man, the Reds broadcasters are getting every cheap shot in that they can. Remarking about the lower attendance. As someone who goes to Cincy often, its [retty funny to hear them speak of attendance issues. Also commenting that Marlon Byrd must wonder what he has gotten himself into coming to Chicago. Granted they are all fair points, but they are enjoying it a bit too much.
  22. Well, I think it is clear that Colvin is more favored with the organization over Fukudome right now. The numbers against RHP shows Fukudome with a lead in OBP but Colvin with a much higher slugging. Can't help you with the Theriot question.
  23. Stevens won't be down for long. He just gets moved out because of the innings he put in yesterday. He would be unavailable for the next couple of games most likely, os he makes the most sense. I would imagine he will be back soon.
